Yeah he's definitely there.HM4-a6AWcAAjIZs.jpg424.56 KBGot on for the second half of this mornings first pre season and scored within a few minutes.
Received a good bit of praise from the gaffer in the post match thoughts too.
A nice start to life over in England for the lad. I really hope he does go well, because our striker stocks need some fresh blood coming through for the national team.
It’s about a 90 min trip MK to Nottingham. Hopefully he can have a coffee chat one day with the Woodsman for a few pointers on coming to the UK as a teenage striker

Keep an eye on their website. He doesn't appear in any of their squad lists so far (Firsts, Development, or Academy) but I would hazard a guess he'll possibly end up with the development group.

Nah. Perniskieonly turned 18 in January. FIFA guidelines mandate that players under 18 cannot sign professional contracts lasting longer than 3 years.
Problem was that Luke Supyk (age 20) didn't develop as hoped and has been let go. Could the Nix halfway through last season tried to negotiate an early Supyk exit and offer Perniskie a scholarship deal with chance to upgrade to senior? Not easy to do. Maybe they tried, but being that brutal with young players (as it would have been on Supyk) is not really their (or the NZ) way. Apparently that sort of stuff is common in the tough UK scene??
Again there is no perfect science to picking which players will develop and at which rate.
Perniske's agent must have some connections somewhere, and good on them for seemingly getting this MK Dons opportunity.
Though going to the UK at such a young age is no guarantee of success. The A League is littered with young Aussies who have returned to Australia, after their youth deals at UK clubs never lead anywhere much. Fingers crossed for young Jack. NZ badly needs a young promising striker coming through.
RR will know all this stuff in far more depth, but I've read under FIFA and national regulations, clubs that invested time and resources into a player's development between the ages of 12 and 21 are financially rewarded. So the Nix/Weenix will get some coin for Perniskie wherever his career goes from here.
MK Citizen: “Jack Perniskie was the beneficiary of a well-won ball by Kazungu, neatly picking his spot five minutes after the restart. A minute later, Maidenhead had one back when keeper Seb Stacey, on at the break, was caught in possession by striker Alfie Pendlebury on the edge of the box, leaving the striker with a routine finish to roll into the empty net. But Dons saw their two-goal lead restored just a couple of minutes later when Perniskie flicked the ball to the waiting Rushian Hepburn-Murphy to blast home.”
The coach spoke afterwards about how the young fellas that got an opportunity in this game all did well, adding that Perniskie took his chance nicely. Next step is off to Croatia for a training camp where they’ll ramp take up another notch. Perniskie was in that travelling group, you can see him top right in this collection of action snaps in the shadow with the black band around his left arm...
While in Croatia, MK Dons have scheduled a friendly against NK Istra which is the club that Stipe Ukich plays for. He’s seeking to crack their first team after showing some promise last year at the feeder club. Two teenaged kiwi forwards both on parallel quests.
Okay but how did Perniskie end up in Milton Keynes in the first place? Sounds like he spent some time over there on trial a wee while ago and now they’ve brought him in properly as the new campaign gets underway. No announcement or anything. That means we’re still in the dark about what kinda terms he’s agreed to. Could be a first team deal, could be an academy deal. Just gotta keep an ear to the ground as new information comes to light. And if you wanna know more about the player, well, it just so happens he was highlighted as one of TNC’s Top WeeNix Prospects a few months ago.

Periskie starts, as MK Dons lose 2-1.
Presumably he went off at HT with Istra lead 1-0.
Can't find Istra lineup but I think Ukich is in the far left of the below tweet. MK Dons coach talked about Istra's pace on the counter, wonder if Ukich was part of that.
Only 2 HT subs (incl Perniskie) so more resembling a proper game, than the previous warmup.
Sounds like it was a tough week of fitness in the Croatian sun, so young Jack would have found that a challenge with his first taste of full time pro football.
The second half started with two substitutions for the Dons, seeing Callum Paterson come on for Jack Perniskie and Keon Lewis-Burgess on for Brooklyn Kazungu.
There were then a number of changes for Milton Keynes Dons around the 60th minute.....

Pretty sure it's on a development deal at this stage, but it's encouraging that he's with the wider first team squad for pre season. If he manages any meaningful minutes he'll also be playing at a higher level than one Ben Waine...
Likely scenario is that they will keep him around the first team setup for the first few months with EFL Cup and EFL Trophy commitments through to Novemeber - Norwich in EFL Cup to kick off their season in three weeks, followed by Crawley Town, Brentford U21's and Bromley in the heavily rotated EFL Trophy games. Might even see him pop up on the bench for some League One stuff in between if all goes to plan. If he manages to start in League One that would be a highly impressive feat, and it's not beyong the realms of possibility that could happen too.
Mad to think he was lining up against Waterside Karori in the Central League just a month ago. Long may the rapid rise continue for the lad.
Quite common for League One sides to loan out young players in January, after most have been knocked out of the various cup competitions. As you say YH, if he's given a good account of himself in preason, theres an excellent chance he gets a run in the EFL Trophy, particularly as he's with a League One club (who generally are more likely to rotate for the trophy).
Youth minutes generally dry up in the second half of the season so if he can get a few appearances in a cup comp, then loaned out to a National League club, that would be a pretty decent season for Jack imo.
How good is this? A random preseason game between a top flight Croatian team and a third-tier English team and starting up front for the former was 19yo Stipe Ukich while up front for the latter was 18yo Jack Perniskie.
.............
Perniskie was a lot quieter, his main contribution being a couple tangos with the offside flag, but his mere presence is enticing having only recently joined the club straight out of the Wellington Phoenix Reserves. His only senior football has come in the Central League having never made an A-League matchday squad.
He does have something in common with a different A-League club though, because overnight he got 25 minutes off the bench in a preseason friendly against Tottenham Hotspur – the last game for Spurs before they fly out to face Auckland FC. Perniskie was mostly out there against academy players but he did share the pitch with guys like Martin Dubravka and Richarlison. Would imagine he drops down into the MK Dons development squad soon enough but you never know. Let’s see how far he can take this thing.
Damn, surprised MKD have managed that. Nombe is excellent at this level. Still think if he keeps impressing throughout pre-season he'll get minutes in the cup comps.
New first year pros Hayden Boyce, Jack Perniskie, Elisha Boateng and Brooklyn Kazungu will wear numbers 36, 39, 42 and 37 respectively. image.png1.07 MB
