Tuiloma stays on the bench and Gleeson with a full 90 as the Timbers humped 4-0 by New York Redbulls.
New York RB 4 - 0 Portland Timbers
Gleeson with a couple of decent saves on that link too, but never a good night when you concede four...

Dallas v Portland is the feature game on Duke channel on Sunday morning. 8-50am I think.
Dropped to the bench for todays 3-0 win over New York City despite some great saves in the win over Minnesota last week.
On the bench as Portland travel to the San Jose Earthquakes.
Tuiloma dropped to Portland II in USL unfortunately.
Clean sheet for Timbers and 1-0 win. Goal in 88th min by Valeri.
On the bench verus Seattle. Tuiloma not in match day squad.
Like their ULS side Portland score late (86 mins) to get a 1-0 win over Seattle.
Another clean sheet won't help prospects of Gleeson & Tuiloma getting back in the side.
In fact unless Attinella gets an injury, Gleeson maybe riding the pine over whole MLS season.
Maybe it's time he patched things up with NZF, and made himself available for a little 2 week trip to India - good networking opportunity for him. If he continues to be no 2 at Portland this US summer, maybe it's time he looked elsewhere at season end.

He already has and would've been called up for the Canada game but he was starting for Portland at the time but yes, with Portland on a good run since Attinella came in, he may struggle to get his place back. This is the last year of his contract so he may be looking elsewhere soon.

Not in match day squad verus LA Galaxy on weekend.
I presume just out injured, rather than one of the Kiwis in talks with coach Rudan?
There's no place like home, jake... just saying
But don't sign a 3 year contract!

Yes. Has got a back injury
Out for rest of MLS season with injury
What happened?
ACL I think. Mentioned last week's Flying Kiwis - not this week.
Shin splints in both legs I believe.
Bummer
bilateral tibial stress fractures
From Flying Kiwis last week.
'Got some bad news to report. The puzzle about Jake Gleeson’s recent absence from the bench in Portland has been cleared up with a report out of Timbers HQ detailing a little bit of season-ending surgery…
“The Portland Timbers today announced that goalkeeper Jake Gleeson has undergone successful surgery to repair bilateral tibial stress fractures. The procedure was performed by Timbers chief medical officer Dr. Richard H. Edelson at Sports Medicine Oregon. Gleeson, who is expected to be out approximately two months, will conduct his rehabilitation with the Timbers sports medicine staff at Providence Park and at the Providence Sports Care Center.”

So that’s not the best for ol’ Jake, who began the season as the fill-in starting keeper for Jeff Atinella but was dropped back to the bench when the numero uno returned. Atinella’s not exactly been playing great lately however Gleeson never got that second chance – the last of his six games in 2018 came in April. The Timbers acquired backup keeper Steve Clark on waivers from DC United to replace him.'
I guess from anecdotal evidence it's better to break a bone than having significant soft tissue injuries such as ACL etc, but yeah not good news.
I read somewhere this is the last year of his contract, so I wonder his plans are. He has a bit of time to ponder what next.
Had a great season at Portland in 2016? - but has struggled since.
Sounds like Rudan approached him but he said no. Maybe he wants to stay stateside, and try crack no 1 spot at another MLS side.
Smart move having the op now and then being fit when his contract is up.
Looks like they have re-signed the two other keepers. At least he has a Green Card so could pick up something else over there.
Will depend on the recovery from his injury which isn't looking good at the moment.
WHERE'S GLEESON AT?
The Curious case of Jake Gleeson. This time last year he was the starting keeper for Portland Timbers in the MLS.
Timbers had a horror start to 2018 MLS, losing 3 & drawing 2 of their first 5 games. All on the road (home stadium being refurbed), and Gleeson starting all 5 (Attinella was injured at the time).
Gleeson starts one more game, being Timbers's first home game & a 3-2 win (Tuiloma with an OG) over Minnesota. His form was poor, and he's dropped to the bench for the next 12 games, then decides to have surgery to repair 'bilateral tibial stress fractures'.
Was he playing with a niggling injury when he shouldn't have been, last season? Post surgery he was released by Portland, and not a word since.
A few seasons ago he was making MLS teams of the week etc. He's age 28, so should be his prime years ahead as a keeper. Complications post surgery? Is he just low on confidence? Years ago Moss had a terrible time at Victory, but rebuilt his career again.
If no other MLS clubs are interested, surely worth chatting to the Nix, about at least a trial in Wellington.
Gleason has had off-field issues, so suspect that has retarded his ability to find a new professional club.

Apart from his drink driving conviction, have there been other off field issues?
Rudan gave Nicholls a 2nd chance, so I think he (presuming he is the coach next season) would at least look at Gleeson, if needing a new keeper.
Jake has had major complications post op and recently had further surgery. No other off field issues and even attended the MLS Cup Final against Atlanta with the Portland squad.
I view with great skepticism the guy with the arsenal player skulling beer as his photo, telling us that gleeson had no other off the field issues

Hopefully he gets over his injury eventually.
Too young at 28 to be on the scrap heap for a keeper.
Any news on Gleeson?
Last competitive outing was August 2018 in MLS.
Injured. May have to retire.

Thanks
Has joined the coaching staff at Saint Mary's College in California

So his pro career is obviously over for good.
Bit sad. Still only 29.
In 2016 MLS season he was going great guns for Portland, and had nailed the no 1 keeper spot after serving a long apprenticeship in Oregon. Made MLS team of the week a few times.
Then he got that drink driving charge at season's end, just before the AWs had 2 friendlies Stateside (USA & Mexico), which seemed to piss Hudson off. From memory he also left the AWs camp early, to get injury treatment from Timbers doctor or something. Remembering Marinovic at that time though a favourite of Huddo, was still playing 4th tier German football.
In 2017 MLS Gleeson's career went downhill (form, injuries). A warning to Tim Payne! Admittedly Payne seems very contrite.
seems to have fallen off Ole's radar
Gleeson Sues Timbers Doctors for $10.2m
Poor guy, turns out the doctors botched his surgeries to repair stress fractures in his shins and two years later he struggles to run and kicking a ball causes him pain.

that is really sharkhouse! only 30 with not only his playing days are over and potentially his coaching career too.
only in America
Following the first three surgeries, Gleeson went on to have eight additional surgeries on his right tibia over a six-month span.
Sounds bloody awful.
Hopefully he gets a payout. Considering the litigious nature of US society, you would rate his chances from afar.
