Salary capped league issues surely- one to or two top players and lots of journey men.

I think the name andy boyens sums yp in two words the quality of the mls. The championship is at a far higher level

Auckland will rise once more

Its a bit pile the A league in terms of there being some really good players at one end,and average ones at the other.

So to pick a player at the other end as representative of the overall quality is a little absurd.

I wasn't comparing the a league to either

Question: would boyens get a contract in the championship

Answer: no

Auckland will rise once more

I didn't say you were comparing to the a league.

Perhaps you should read what I said again.

I could just as well say would beckham get a contract? Yes. Tegal2011-04-03 23:59:29

Yes beckham would get a contract in the championship

Would boyens answer: no

The championship is at a fair superior level

Auckland will rise once more

Would Rory Fallon get an MLS contract? Probably not.

Did he have a Championship one for a number of years?  Yes.

The MLS is at a far superior level.

If jarrod smith can get himself a mls contract, then fallon would as well

Auckland will rise once more

Jarrod Smith got a contract based on age, not talent. As soon as he was too old to take up a development spot he was discarded.

Perhaps you should read a book on logic or something before you try to apply it in public. It'd save embarrassment...

I'm not saying that the MLS or championship are better either.

I'm just pointing out that you need to judge the level by all players in it.
You can't just pick individual players that suit your point of view, then ignore it when other people do the same and pick players that dont suit your argument.

Paul ifill had a contract with a EPL team. Therefore the A league is better than the championship.

David mulligan had a contract with the A league, therefore the NZFC is also better than the championship. Tegal2011-04-04 15:40:15

Would Thierry Henry, Rafael Marquez, Landon Donovan, David Beckham get a championship contract?

I think Jake Gleeson has been mentioned about twice in a whole page in the "Jake Gleeson" thread. It's pissing me off, just take it outside and throw bottles at each others faces or some sh*t.

Comparing salary-capped leagues with non-salary capped leagues seems a bit stupid. The salary capped leagues will probably tend to have a greater spread of talent - a few superstar marquee type players at the top, balanced out by a lot of journeymen at the bottom. This was certainly Paul Ifill's take on the A-League - the very best players as good as just about anywhere, the worst barely fit for the Vauxhall Conference. This also explains how Andy Boyens and David Beckham can even exist in the same league. On average I suspect the Championship is a higher standard than the MLS, although the MLS would be close.

He's doing well, NZ football is on the up with more players overseas and more players making themselves available for us because we are now seen as a worthwhile option.

Can't we all just get along : )

Would they be able to get a Premiership one? And bang goals in regularly like Brian McBride and Landon Donovan?

The question is would he get a championship contract now actually, and the answer is no. If youre going to try and score points, then be accurate

He wouldnt get a championship contract now, he might get an MLS contract

Still doesnt say which is the higher league

Better than each other.

The last part of my post was applying Auckland Phoenix's logic to show how absurd it was to single out one player in each league, and from that say one league is better than the other....

Fan poll shows he is JUST favored by the fans to stay in the spot:

Should read some of those comments bellow the poll, they are definitely talking him up over there.

An email from an old friend in Portland.

They are buzzing because Portland are stepping back up to the major league after 30 plus years.

"I was listening to Portland radio today and they was a lot of talk about the Timbers new acquisition, a goalie from New Zealand by name of Jake Gleeson.  He is apparently turning a few heads with his play, and the announcers were waxing about the quality of NZ football, which made me smile "
