So the Dons (2nd) come back from 2-0 to draw their big game at Celtic Park, 2-2. Both teams remain unbeaten, each with 7 wins & a draw. Sadly no McGarry in the match day squad.

Are Aberdeen a bonafide SPL title challenger? They will take a lot of confidence out of this game.

Hoops juggling UCL games, including an Italian trip this week to play Atalanta, and then next weekend a tricky trip to Motherwell (4th) in the SPL.

McGarry an unused sub in a 1-0 win. The unbeaten Dons roll on.
Go top of the SPL, but Celtic play tonight.

Sometime Socceroo Ryan Strain 20 mins off the pine for Dundee U

Frustrating for Jimmy M getting zero playing time, but there must be a buzz around the club doing so well in the SPL. Next a big one, midweek hosting Rangers (3rd)

Hard to see mcgarry getting much if any game time in all honesty. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him put in loan in Jan unless there was an injury to Mackenzie.

Everything about the club is so positive at the mo, makes it hard to be this far away from it all but it’s a great time to be alive. JT is managing to grind out results that we’d have previously lost and both players and fans are completely united for once. Still not the finished product and I would hate to lose to the huns on wed. Would be typical of us.

But if he the 2nd best LB at the club, would you send him out on loan? He's been on the bench for nearly every game. At some point Mackenzie will likely need a rest and/or get injured.

I see Mackenzie was called up by Scotland earlier this month, though didn't play. So no shame in McGarry being 2nd at the club behind a Scottish international.
But yeah if he's any chance of getting a callup for the AWs, he'll need to eventually be somewhere where he's getting mins.

De Vries, Sutton & Wilkins all playing, and so all likely ahead of him. Libby obviously the numero uno.

Nick Montgomery was the coach who got the best out of Jimmy M. But Montgomery will have to leave being an assistant at Spurs before McGarry can follow him to some other club.

Not sure that behind a player in the wider Scottish squad is any better then being behind Libby and co. I think we’d highly likely get a draw and maybe even a win against Scotland right now.

Serious!

I want Aberdeen to win, so I watch those 6 min highlight pacakges the SPL put on YouTube......which isn't the full game, I admit......and he consistently looks like one of those inflatable men outside car dealerships

Dons are the real deal! A 2-1 win
They keep winning, and keep the pressure on Celtic. Both teams on 28 pts, but Celtic with much better GD. The 2 clubs meet in Scottish League Cup semi finals this weekend.

Rangers are now 9 points adrift in the SPL in 3rd.

McGarry stays on the pine yet again. MacKenzie picked up a yellow, his 3rd of the season, so that might be Jimmy M's hope of a game. MacKenzie suspended.

Dons keep trucking on, with a 4-1 win. Unfortunately more splinters for McGarry.

Back to you Celtic, who tonight travel to Kilmarnock.

I wonder if he's decided its better to get splinters and win something then to play in a side making up the numbers. Killen did similar at Celtic from memory.

Sadly the Dons (2nd) unbeaten SPL run is over. A 2-1 loss at SM. Celtic won to go 3 pts clear.

McGarry an unused sub.

Aberdeen (2nd, 31 pts) with a quick opportunity to rebound from their first SPL loss, with a visit to Hibernian (12th/last).

Dons are still 8 points clear of Rangers (3rd - with a game in hand). Celtic (1st, 34 pts) juggling midweek UCL games.

Dons with 2 away games in Edinburgh - Hibs tonight & Hearts on the weekend.

Hopefully it's 2 wins, which would then make the game hosting Celtic 5th Dec, a huge one.

Last non Old Firm club to win the Scottish League. Aberdeen in 1984–85.
I'm sure Celtic are still unbackable favourites to win yet again, but up the Dons.

Jimmy M on the bench as Dons lead 2-1, with 20 mins to go

Jack Iredale played as a left sided CB for Hibs, alongside Aussies Triantis and Lewis Miller. Martin Boyle on the pine

All happened late on, with 3 goals post 90 mins. Two for Hibs and 1 for Aberdeen to finish 3-3.

For Hibs Boyle came on for Iredale at 82 mins (1-2). McGarry as usual just a watcher.

So unfortunately Dons drop more points on Celtic, and really need to win this week at Hearts to keep any sort of pressure you'd think on the Hoops. Otherwise it will then become a battle you feel with Rangers for 2nd spot.

For McGarry, sadly Mackenize seems a bit of an iron man only being subbed off once in 13 games, at 95 mins in the 2-2 draw with Celtic. Mackenize is on 3 yellows, but the benchmark for suspension in the SPL is 6. A loan deal for Jimmy in January?

As I said earlier, I think he'll go out on loan if not termination. He's not getting a look in when things have needed freshening up. Both fullback positions are an issue for us. LB more so given JMcG doesn't appear to be the right fit and McKenzie is off in the summer.

International break hasn't been favourable to us. Knocked our momentum, will be interesting to see how we fare over the next two games. Not overly optimistic given the last two results.

Bizarrely, since you made that comment it's made me think about him a bit more. And i'm now in a similar boat to you, where I think he is a weakness. But I'd also say the CB pairing are too young and inexperienced, which isn't helping him either.

McGarry starts and plays 59 mins!!  Dons were up 1-0 when he came off.
Presumably Mackenzie is injured.

Unfortunately Dons drop more points in a 1-1 draw.

Socceroos - Rowles & Cam Devlin full games for Hearts.

Celtic with a game in hand are 4 pts clear of Aberdeen. Big game midweek with Celtic travelling to Pittodrie

Understandably mcgarry was rusty after so few mins this season, but I think the general consensus is we need better to replace the likely off Jack Mackenzie. Not holding much hope for this Wednesday given the injuries we’ve likely got. Think even Mcgarry went off injured? Celtics depth and value will start to show now I think.

Hopefully you are mistaken about McGarry. To wait that long for a game to get injured would be incredibly cruel. Hopefully it was about managing him, if he is needed to replace the starting LB, given he has no minutes in the legs.

https://www.afc.co.uk/report/dons-claim-hard-fought-point-on-the-road/

Clarkson very nearly had his second on 44, McGarry putting a nice pass into Jamie McGrath who played it first time into the path of Clarkson. He tried to bend the ball across goal and into the far corner, but Gordon produced a top class save at full stretch, pushing the ball behind.

.......Hearts were grateful to a brilliant clearance by Oyegoke in the seventh added minute, Morris getting to the by-line and pulling the ball back. It looked as if it was going to reach McGarry but Oyegoke appeared from nowhere to take it off his toe, sliding across the sodden turf, soaked by the pouring rain.

.......McGarry required treatment three minutes later and he and Palaversa were then eventually replaced by Shinnie and Jack Milne.

Sounds Jimmy McGarry will yes start.

https://www.afc.co.uk/2024/12/03/jimmy-thelin-gives-his-thoughts-on-celtic/

“Jack MacKenzie won’t be available for tomorrow, we need to wait some more days. He is almost there but tomorrow is a short time. Everyone else is available apart from Pape who is still out.

Jimmy started really well and then he had some fatigue and we have to change but he is ready again. Jack Milne was prepared to play left back, full back or centre back, he was ready for every position because we know someone needs to change, it was Jimmy’s first game and he came in and did really well also.

Good words after good patience. And even though these guys, Callan etc aren’t starting, they’ve been training and part of a squad at a high level professional club. Not to be undersold either.

Would be useful FB combination with a South Island ALM side. The Otagoite & the Nelsonian.

From Niche Cache. It sounds like he has a high quality coach with his Swedish namesake boss Thelin. So hopefully even if McGarry does move on from the Dons, he does as a better player. I ready somewhere that dad Mike has always called him Jimmy.

Jimmy Thelin, last week: “Usually when you start a new season, you want to get some parts like a core to be stable, but I think the improvement of Jimmy McGarry and Jack Milne has been really, really good and also how they have grown. It’s a lot of improvements, and when it’s time for them, I’m going to trust them 100 per cent. Jimmy is still really, really strong in attack, but has also made improvements in positional play in a four-back line. That’s really nice to see – even if they haven’t played so much, they play at training, 11 vs 11 – and they take small steps in the right direction all the time. Sometimes the opportunity or the things happen and then the dynamics change. I’m 100 per cent sure it’s going to be fine when they get the time to play.”

Same old boring SPL. Celtic with the 78th min winner for 1-0 at Pittdorie.

In a good sign McGarry got 83 mins. Biggest game he would have played since that GF win with the Mariners. Sounds like Mackenize will return for the next game though.

Hoops (with a game in hand) now open a 7 pt lead on the Dons.

McGarry did well. I don't think he's done his chances any harm at all. We were very unlucky, missed a chance to score and they went the other end and our most reliable defender had a brain fade and didn't play the offside trap that the rest of the defence did. Was a good game though and a draw would certainly have been fair. Part of me would prefer we stuck it out with McGarry rather than JM, who sounds like he needs a brain transplant for a probable move to Rangers.

Jimmy M was one of 3 players dragged at HT, with Dons down 0-1.

Finished 1-1, so Dons (2nd) now winless in 5 SPL games. Rangers (3rd) with 2 games in hand are now within 5 pts.
