In this stint I've seen a few more things in his game we hadn't seen before. Work rate is massively improved and some very deft touches to put people into space.

One striker can't be relied upon to score to goals, its a team effort. If he'd stuffed up a buffet of chances perhaps, but his goal scoring rate has to be viewed in the light of the teams performance which has been poor. Hard to expect a million goals from a striker in a poorly performing team. That said he scored a bucket for us while we sucked all last season...
The hope is Ryan that Brockie brings that back to us. If he turns into a lazy cunt again, there will be more than a few who call for his head. I actually doubt Ernie would tolerate a slack ass attitude or work ethic anyway.
totally this ^, if Brockie has used this loan to develop a new work ethic on the field then all good, if however he goes back to the not bothered attitude then he can go back to Toronto and let us by someone who wants to be here.

Problem with letting him go is who to replace him with? He's a Kiwi and I don't see a Kiwi or Aussie around who might do much better [unless we got McDonald, Killen or someone], we'd have to use an import spot and we need that spot for elsewhere. Only advantage I see in letting him go is $$$$

Pretty poor half by TFC. Lucky to go into the break only 1-0 down.
Not a lot happening up front for Toronto, Brockie been marked quite well and receiving a lot of the ball either on the wing or with his back to goal. Toronto still in it though.

Couple good goals for the Crew in an otherwise forgettable game. Brockie seemed to be out wide with Earnshaw in the middle. More I see of Earnshaw, I'm glad we didn't get him.
Horrific game for TFC last night. Brockie had a bad night, but so did the rest of the team. Hopefully next week's game, Brockie's last with TFC, will be a lot better.

My husband and I were the ones who told Brockie about Hemmingways. We'd watched the World Cup there when NZ played, and figured Brockie would enjoy it there. :)

I see Bobby Convey just scored for Toronto - remember seeing him play in Christchurch at QE II Stadium for the USA u-17's in a "mini World Cup" in 1998 the year before the 1999 FIFA u-17 World Cup in NZ. That team also included future luminaries Landon Donovan and DaMarcus Beasley, mainstays of the US national team for years, and careers at the top level in Europe. Convey had a few seasons with Reading in the EPL.
Ends 1-1. Brockie set up a great chance for Earnshaw on a plate but he is in a massive drought, so fluffed it up.
So ends Brockie's loan and I find that I rather like Brockie's game. It's too bad that his finishing sucked, because while he didn't get as many chances as he'd like, he did get some, and in the end he only scored 1 goal. Though glimpse of his finishing ability was there, because no matter how old he may be, if you can make Nesta look like a chump on a 1v1 play, you have some skill.
What I like the most about Brockie was what he did was mostly instinctive, a lot of one touch passes and link up play. With his back to the goal, he seems to be aware of his teammates making a run, and has the skill to find them with short passes. Actually, I think if he was trained at a better youth academy, he might be playing in Europe because he's got that killer instinct to be at the right place at the right time that it's hard to teach. Was surprised about his poor work rate with Wellington, because he played his balls off while with TFC. Maybe the motivation to play at a higher level and potentially leading into possible European gig was the reason. (Hell, even Brockie said MLS is at a higher level than A league)
On final note, a little birdy told me that Nelsen has no plans to buy Brockie from Wellington, and may again be interested in him once his contract is over few years down the road. And Nelsen hopes to do a loan with Wellington for some TFC reserve players. One player is Kyle Bekker, young Canadian international CM who plays more of a deep playmaker role. Very technical player who can make a pass, and has decent set piece ability, but doesn't dribble very well and at the moment can't keep up with the pace of MLS.
