Good luck Brockie!

The sort of player who lives life on the field and lives life off the field.

Had a good year goal scoring, probably surprised many as he hasn't been a consistent scorer in the league previously.  Brilliant natural talent who can score some spectacular goals, however goes missing for long times in matches and can sometimes look a bit lost tactically as a striker (runs aren't that great).  I've always thought he really needed some good coaching - it really could go either way with him.  I'd definitely be gutted if he left us though, I think he's got loads to offer.

After all is said and done, the above post from May 2013 (when JB was off to Toronto) needs to be re-read again, to refresh our collective memories. This is how Brockie looked then..... in our final year under Herbert, not Merrick.... and how some of it clearly has not changed since then.

A little surprised that with a young family he would choose South Africa. Personally I wouldn't go and live there there for a million bucks

Well he hasn't chosen it yet.  He's gone for a medical and probably a look see (check out the training facilities, see who is playing at CAM...).

I'm with you Cos - once a player is not good enough they need to be moved on and we need to drop the revisionist crap when suddenly everybody thought they were great all the time after all.

Yeah, remember the season after Brown left? How well did that go again? Oh right, wooden spoon. Turns out he was a severely underated player and heavily missed by us.

We all went into that season expecting to do well, get rid of some baggage - finally Sanchez could play in the correct position, hired a big bald Belgian.

Yes Tim's depature was the sole reason that we had that shocking season and nothing to do with Ricki coming to the end of the line, Morgan saying how crap we all are etc. We also lost Daniel and Greenie also.

Or maybe Orlando Pirates, they have been around a lot longer than the Chiefs.

Brockie moving on could be a win win. Frees up a spot and cap space for the club and gives Brockie the chance at a fresh start. Wouldn't surprise me if Cunningham was given the same opportunity. Club needs the import spot for a striker and Cunningham will want more game time than he's getting with us. Brockie's + Cunningham's salaries and an import spot should open more opportunities to recruit a decent striker.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Tade is an import - needs less imports to sign him

Tade also fades out of games more than Brockie although he has a better eye for goal.

Interesting fact I learnt about South Africa is that it has the highest number of registered football clubs in the world!  More that the UK which surprised me.

(I can thank a pub quiz for that)

If he leaves, then good luck. If he stays, then he had better work hard. I still think he is great, still think he can find form again, but he might do with some time in the weenix (or elsewhere) to get his eye back in.

If we go back to the start of the season..

"When you're coming down to the last year of your contract and you're a striker, you need to start scoring goals, whether that's to keep me at the club or get me a new contract somewhere else. I need to make sure I do my job for the team and score goals, and leave it in the hands of the officials and staff at the club."

Like everyone who leaves he goes with my personal best wishes of success, I just don't think he was very good for us.  His performances were never part of a consistent results for the club - we could play well and he'd play badly personally, we'd win and he'd have a shocker so I don't think he was that effective for the club overall.  Great guy though, and it's always better watching guys play who genuinely care.  That's why I love A-League football, there's still that connection between players and fans

Tade is going to SA after ACFC are knocked out of the CWC.

After watching the 8am telly today, I think WelNix should make an offer to William Trubridge.

He ticks all the boxes for a Phoenix player:  nice guy, trains his ass off and gives his all on the day, could improve on his finishing.

Surprised that there is that kind of money in South African football, though?

Exchange rate isn't great but one of the wealthier leagues in Africa. Top players can earn decent $. Tshabalala is reported getting over NZ$400k, though he is at Chiefs and would be in the top tier of earners in the league.

The league has a huge TV deal with Super Sport worth more than NZ$ 320 million. It is the biggest sporting deal in the history of South Africa, and it took the Premier Division into the top 15 ranked leagues in the world in terms of commercial broadcast deals.

http://www.goal.com/en/news/1659/south-africa/2011...

"Super Sport has secured Premier Soccer League games for five more seasons thanks to the sizeable amount they will be paying over that time.

The Premier Soccer League and broadcasting giant SuperSport International have agreed a new five-year television rights deal worth “well over” R2 billion (€200 million).

The League's chairman Dr. Irvin Khoza made the announcement on Friday at the PSL offices in Parktown, Johannesburg. The deal will take effect at the beginning of the 2012-13 season.

The previous television rights deal, signed in 2007, was worth R1.6b (€160m)."

Foreigner Players at SuperSport United:

In the South African PSL, only five non-South African nationals can be registered. Foreign players who have acquired permanent residency can be registered as locals.

I like the club nickname: Matsatsantsa (The Swanky Boys, The Trendsetters)

Gordon Igesund (ex South Africa manager) is their third manager since August - so must have been an unstable period at the club.

Haven't won the SA title since 2009-10 when it was their third title in a row (their only three titles since the league was formed in 1996).

Bruce Grobelaar once coached them (1999 -2001) - and signed All Whites goalie Michael Utting from the Football Kingz (two "colourful" goalies of erratic temperament!)
