They have appointed former Kaizer Chiefs and South Africa coach, Stuart Baxter. He arrives at the club next week and has a proven track record in SA football. Should be interesting.
Baxter would have the best pedigree of any coach in SA football, having been a successful club coach in Sweden and the J-League, as well as managing South Africa, Finland and the England u-19's. He's coached in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.
Coached AIK to the Swedish title and into the Champions League group stage in 1998-99 season where they were in the group of death with Barcelona, Arsenal and Fiorentina. In one of the biggest refereeing blunders in Champions League history, during AIK's game against Barca, the referee allowed Barca to take a corner while the fourth official was facilitating a double substitution for AIK which the referee had indicated - so AIK had stopped playing to wait for the substitution. Barca scored - otherwise it would have been a draw. Stuart Baxter shouted at the Fourth Official "this isn't a fu**ing amateur league, is it?"
Most recently manager of Gençlerbirliği in the Turkish top flight but he quit after two months.
Won the SA title as recently as 2014-15 with the mighty Kaiser Chiefs.
The Anglo-Scottish Baxter was an apprentice pro at Preston North end in the early 1970's with 1982 All Whites legend Steve Sumner in the years before Sumner immigrated to NZ.
