I don't think we know anything.

It's rumored that Boyd fell out of favor by turning down the ONC call up, we don't know if that's true and if it's true we don't know if Boyd has fallen out of favor. For all we know Hudson has asked him several times and Boyd has turned him down each time. Or it could be that Hudson simply doesn't rate him.

So for all of this talk about work rate, has anyone watched him play recently to make comment on it?

With all the technology available, I am sure if Hudson wanted to, he could get data results to show how much he is putting in - how often he reaches maximum heart rate etc.

He's a professional striker scoring goals for fun... deserves to be in there ahead of amatuers and players either just starting their career and have achieved little to date (Patterson and I like him, buts he's a winger not a striker) and older players like Fallon whose been included in recent times. (Unless Fallon is taken in a non playing capacity where he has actual value)

10 goals in 33 games this season. Hardly scoring goals for fun.

Plus his 5 goals in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The real question should be is he in the top 5 NZ strikers (cause I think we will take 5), and the answer has to be yes

Wood, Kosta, Marco pick themselves

Outside those three I'd have Brockie next

weirdly not included on Transfermarkt. Ok, from what I can tell that's 5 in 5 in the CCC (including a hat trick against the champions of Liberia) so 15 in 38 in total. Decent return, but still a way off what I would consider to be scoring goals for fun. I also think that any talk of how great his goalscoring is needs to be tempered with a reminder of his AWs record. Same number of goals for NZ as Ian Hogg, in 8 times as many games.

I still think he probably should be in the AWs squad because it's not a position we have a lot of depth in, I just don't think we should get carried away about him.

From the Podcast, he's had some injuries this season and that has impacted his playing time (more sub appearances) so probably looking at minutes per goal would be better

Brocks has his flaws, no one denies that but when we have the choice between him & Smeltz for the back up central striker for the Confeds, he is the better choice of the two. Smeltzy has been a great servant for NZ but he isn't the force he used to be.

Not counting the CAF games Transfermarkt has him at a goal every 235 minutes. As a random comparison, Finkler had one every 279 minutes for us this season

Decent return is the exact phrase I used when I said he scored 15 in 38.

Think we are justified in wanting him and the evidence suggests so

Yeah, agreed. We don't have much depth in the striker role. For me it's not so much that he's been doing so well we can't ignore him, more that there really aren't any other options

Hudson has had him in at camps, and has spoken plenty about the importance of contact time for bedding his system in. He has that list of options I wrote, that have all had a heap of time doing that (+someone like Jai Ingham) who I forgot. Would be stunned if Brockie made it.

Brockie is right that players are getting picked from all over the place, but ultimately he's been a pretty mixed bag at A-League and International level so it isn't massively surprising he's not getting picked.

It comes from Hudson, to a reporter, doesn't it? (Not that that makes it the truth, but it's more than rumour)

Brockie is currently the leading goal scorer in this seasons tournament with 9.

How much longer can Hudson overlook him?  Scoring for fun, or so it appears.  The Solomon matches would have been the perfect window to give him a run out.

I can understand him picking Bevan/Patterson because they are long term projects but picking Smeltz ahead of Brocks always puzzles me. I love all that Smeltzy has done for NZ over the years but he hasn't looked effective for NZ in awhile, surely Brocks could offer more off the bench?

Oops did not mean to Endorse. Fat fingered iPhone tapping

Brockie not picked as PSL is a questionable standard and African Champions League even more questionable. Scoring 4 goals against Malawian champions or whatever doesn't mean much. But mostly he doesn't work hard enough off the ball for Hudson. Still probably next cab off the rank if heaven help us, Wood was injured

Smeltzy is playing in Thailand & not scoring. It's hard to justify selecting him ahead of Brocks other than Hudson wants an experienced head around the kids.

Guess this is why Brocks didn't play this weekend

The club would like to officially confirm that Jeremy Brockie handed in a transfer request last week which the SuperSport United board has rejected.

The Matsatsantsa striker will NOT be sold to any club at any price.
