Kiwi match up today in USL. Colvey playing at home for Reno 1868 (San Jose feeder side), against Tuiloma and Timbers II.

Crosses the ball from the left for an assist for Reno's first

Reno wins 6-1. Timbers 2 is quite rubbish

Finishes 6-1 to Reno. They lie 2nd in the 15 team Western Conference USL.

Not the sort of result that will get Tuiloma or any of team mates near the Timbers first team. They comfortably lie 15th or dead last.

2nd on the Western Conference USL table Reno went down 0-3 at home to top of the table Real Monarchs. Colvey subbed after 78 mins, with Reno only a goal down at that point.

Colvey subbed after 78 mins, as Reno 1868 draw 2-2 with Sacramento in the USL.

Colvey an unused sub as Reno 1868 lose 0-1 OKC Energy, and are knocked out of the USL quarterfinals.

Been released today, San Jose opted not to extend his contract.

Next stop Colorado?

Maybe, if rumours re Hudson going to Denver are true. Colvey went pretty good against Peru.

Abbas is on a one year deal as is Galloway.

I'd take him at the nix. MLS is better than the A-League after all, and the nix have always been plagued by shark fullbacks. Also just good to see more Kiwi's at the nix, but I also thought he and Wynne were pretty handy against Peru - I'd take either tbh

Annual finals disappointment enthusiast.

Would be worth getting in for a trial

Is he better then what we’ve got though given he wasn’t exactly a shining light at Reno?

Coach Hudson is a fan so odds on a trial at Colorado awaits.

Also does he have a US passport? So doesn’t take up a valuable overseas roster spot with a MLS side?

San Jose are a strong team. so not end of the world bring dropped by them

One of only 2 players picked up in the waivers draft. Somewhat unsurprisingly joining Anthony Hudson at Colorado.

Nice to see Hudson take a kiwi on - suggests he was truthful when he said he rated the quality of NZ players.

It struck me in the Peru matches that the only thing wrong with Kip Colvey is that he's a bit shark.

If he can sort that out, then he'd be a good player.

He was one of our best players vs Peru though...

He did well... the better level he plays at, the better he will become, and given his age the better the contribution he could possibly make to the NZ team over the next decade.

Yeah it's strange, some of us think he was pretty terrible, most others though think he was pretty great. I thought he was a bit shark too, but hey - anything can change

ROFL

Personally not a fan atm but hopefully Hudson will give him the first team exposure he needs and kicks on from there.

Never a fan of Hudson but if for the rest of his coaching career he helps bring kiwis through, I'll happily become a fanboy.

First MLS start for Colorado also in the team Wynne and Smith

Permalink Permalink
almost 8 years ago · edited almost 8 years ago · History

All three Kiwis play the full 90 as Colorado concede late to draw the game 1-1. Colvey apparently settling in really well, good defensively but poor attacking according to supporters.

The goal conceded was as a result of a miscommunication between Wynne and Colvey, though the keeper should have done better. Not the best defensive game from the Rapids.

Starts all for Colvey, Wynne and Smith against last season's champs Toronto at home in Denver. Cheers Uncle Tony.

Rapids lead 1-0 at HT after a very early goal (2 mins). Unfortunately Colvey subbed at 39 mins - and looked a tactical switch by Hudson.

Can Colorado stop their bad trend of conceding late?
