Kelli Brown with an assist for the second goal in the final. And makes team of the year.
Credit also to Charlotte Lancaster. Team of the year sub. Awesome effort by her. Surely someone will pick her up for the A league season. CCM or Newcastle Jets ???

Wouldn't be surprised if we see her back in the A League. Most likely for one of the Melbourne teams.

So we could not score against Phillipines and Switzerland with 12 on the field!

(unfortunate automated cropping on bottom left photo by Twitter/X too !)

The English Women's Super League started their new season last weekend.
A couple of full matches live and on demand with highlights of all the others plus a half hour league highlights show here on TVNZ+:
(scroll down to "FOOTBALL" section and use the arrow button at right of match list to go forward and find more games)

Ria Percival stayed on the bench in Spurs' away match v glamour club Chelsea (Sam Kerr and all)
https://us.soccerway.com/matches/2023/10/01/england/wsl/chelsea-lfc/tottenham-hotspurs-lfc/4160788/
CJ Bott came off the bench at 65 m. away v Bristol Rovers(usually a starter but was away playing for the Football Ferns in Chile the week before)
https://us.soccerway.com/matches/2023/10/01/england/wsl/bristol-academy-wfc/leicester-city-wfc/4160786/
Anna Leat was on the bench for Leicester's big home game v Manchester United (their number one goalie is the Dutch national team goalie van Domselaar from the World Cup - but Anna Leat did play quite a lot last season)

Thanks for that - more matches and shows than on TVNZ+
I noticed that the "From the Archive" feature at the bottom of the page is a video of Arsenal v Chelsea from the first FA WSL season in 2010-11:
https://faplayer.thefa.com/video/MF83cDkzNGI2biU3QyUyRnNlY3Rpb24lM0ZwYWdlJTNEaG9tZS1wYWdlJTdDY2Fyb3VzZWwtNw%3D%3D
Starting is former Football Fern midfielder Hayley Moorwood (later Hayley Bowden after marrying) who made 13 appearances for Chelsea that season.
Went on to play for Lincoln Ladies (then a top side) and broke the Ferns appearance record the next year, finishing with 93 caps 2003-2015.
Probably a mostly forgotten player today.

Her husband Daniel Bowden was a very good inside back in Super Rugby. From memory he followed her to the UK, and I think there were murmurings at the time that if he hadn't and stayed in NZ he could have made the All Blacks.

Watched Canberra vs Sydney last night. With two Kiwi's in the front three for Canberra. Both Ruby Nathan and Devon Jackson had strong games. They are definitely getting better as the season progresses, I feel they just need some goal contributions to boost thier confidence. Nathan in particular showed some really good touches. At just 18, looks like a very promising player.
Where as Milly Clegg can't even make a match day squad for WSW, Combination of unavailability at season start, change of coach, untimely injury, then WSW other striker hitting form. Just not really working out for her there this season so far.

Season and time at WSW over for Milly Clegg by the looks.
Really unfortunate news for her.

Hope she has a good rehab and comes back stronger next term. Not sure on the extent of the injury, but must be a bit of a doozy.

Can't see Clegg getting much game time for a while in the NWSL. In a physical league where an 18 year old is a rarity, it will take her a while to get up to condition for the demands of NWSL soccer. But I'm sure it will be a great environment to be part of and to grow in.
Quite a few fringe NWSL players (particularly goalkeepers) that don't get many playing minutes end up on loan spells to ALW clubs. That might be a serious option for Milly next ALW season. So hope the Nix are keeping the communication channels open with her.

Very good news. Wondered if she was even still playing football.

Came off the bench at HT in a 1-2 loss to Nürnberg (10th).
MSV Duisburg
are 12th or last in the Frauen Bundesliga.

Age 27 now, hopefully Radosavljević can stage a career comeback. Scored a goal for Bremen in the Bundesliga back in 2020, which is also the last year she played for the Ferns. Though on the bench for that very understrength Ferns side that hosted the USA 12 months ago, in 2 games.

Interesting transfer to China for Burrows. Hopefully a few of the Aussie ALW Kiwis get released by their clubs for Ferns OFC tourney in Samoa, even if just for the semis onwards

REBECCA BURROWS - NEWCASTLE JETS
Burrows, a former NZ U20s representative, signed with Canberra United last year but never got to play after suffering a long-term injury at the end of her NPL season (where she’d been excellent for Heidelberg United – awarded Players’ Player of the Year in 2021). That sucked... but fortunately there was another opportunity around the bend for the now-29yo. Newcastle Jets scooped her up and here we are. RB made an ALW debut off the bench in a 1-0 win against Central Coast in week one and then started the next two matches. But she scored an own goal in a 4-0 defeat against Melbourne Victory the following week - blocking a cross from wide that looped up and over her keeper – and that was also the last time that Rebecca Burrows played for the Jets.

Don’t fret, there’ve been no injury dramas this time. Nope, instead it’s an overseas opportunity that’s summoned her away. Burrows has left the A-League to sign with Hainan Qiongzhong in the Chinese Super League. The first ever foreign signing for the club after their promotion to the top division – although RB’s Jets teammate Emily Roach also seems to have joined her so first-equal perhaps. Not a country where we get very many kiwi players popping up so it’ll be funky to see how she tracks.

Via Niche Cache. Rennie gets her first pro gig, and follows Jacqui Hand to Åland United, southern Finland. Hand now of course in the English 2nd tier.

Quite an adventurous place from memory. On an isolated island off the Finnish mainland only accessible by ferry or something, where they speak Swedish.

Anyway hopefully in a pro environment Rennie can improve. US College to
Åland worked for Hand who quickly became a favourite there.

Could be.
But they went their seperate ways after both being at Canberra (Jale to Perth Burows to Newcastle).
According to this article from July 2022 Burrows is Jale's partner:
https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/a-league/300637914/blow-for-wellington-phoenix-as-topscorer-grace-jale-signs-for-canberra-united
I always wondered about Jale's heritage. I thought Jale was probably a Pasifika name. Seems she is of mixed Fijian and Pakeha parentage:

I just hope that her Louisville team mate, the miserable Abby Erceg doesn't poison Clegg's mind about playing for the Football Ferns.
Louisville would be the worst possible overseas club for a young Football Ferns player from that point of view.
Erceg was on TV One 6pm news a month ago having a good old moan about how terrible women's football is in NZ and how irredeemably terrible the Football Ferns are.
To me that kind of extreme negativity and continuing to run down the team and the players from outside mostly just has a detrimental effect on the women's game and the public's perception and interest.
