Awesome thanks Phil. For those less familiar, it would be helpful to have an additional column stating NCAA level being played.

I beg to differ, Francis de Vries would be the pick of the bunch for me. Going into his Senior year and very likely to be drafted. Has also won 2 National PDL Championships during his summers with Michigan Bucks. And previously won the National Youth League in Switzerland with FC Basel.

Highly experienced, got a good head on him and a very quiet achiever.

Come Cory's Senior year, he will certainly be in the same boat as Francis, very likely to be drafted.

Zac Muir from Nelson has just started as a fresher at a College in the flyover states. I can't recall the name of it off hand.

Fantastic table by the way. Bet nzf doesn't have all that info.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

On another note & looking at some of the player bios...

Based purely on the players place of birth (when stated), and obviously not knowing the parents/grandparents place of birth , then I guess not everyone is automatically an (eligible) "Kiwi".

I therefore  propose renaming the thread to : "Players who have lived in NZ at some point & are now studying at a US College & if at some future point they are good enough to represent NZ & dependant on the competance of NZF to follow FIFA rules (whilst also allowing for fax machine maintentance, public or staff holidays & ensuring their "pay as you go" internet service is topped up) in obtaining an exemption if required may at some future date then be officially classed as a "Kiwi" & will then be eligible to represent NZ if they so choose."

Or... just keep it at "Kiwis at US Colleges"....upto you.

Be great if he gets drafted, and then signed. Could be a wave of New Zealanders coming through, Cory Brown potentially next and you would think a player like Joe Bell is good enough in four years.

Wellington Olympic and Kaizen Academy player Kieran Paterson left on the 4th January to take up a 4 year scholarship at Xavier Uni alongside Joe Ash and Cory Brown.

6 US colleges coaches are coming out to Wellington from the 23 - 27 January to attend a US Schoalrship Camp!!

It seems the best path to take, even look at guys like Alex Ridsdale who have come back to NZ a much better player and now he's the leading scorer for Tasman United.

Kip Colvey aided by the fact he's born in the US but hopefully Francis de Vries can get signed too and we see more Kiwis taking that route to professional football.

6 US colleges coaches are coming out to Wellington from the 23 - 27 January to attend a US Schoalrship Camp!!

Would love to hear more details on this if possible... Who is hosting the camp in Wellington? What coaches are coming out from what Unis?

Stu doesn't have a website as such, and is a sporadic Facebooker but if you drop him a line I'm sure you can find out more info (and share it with us here):

Francis de Vries played the 2nd half of his combine team at the MLS combine. His team, 'Chaos' were 3-0 down at halftime but 2nd half with de Vries they managed to keep a clean sheet and pull a goal back. de Vries is looking strong and a MLS mock draft had him picked as high as 18th in the 1st round. I will be attending the MLS draft this week and will be interesting to see how he goes.

Technically good enough for the MLS but will need to show that he can match the physicality and pace at a higher level, during these combine games.

Congrats to him. Is this a full time contract, or is he effectively now on pre-season trial with Vancouver?

If it is a contract, imagine he like Wynne will mainly feature for their 2nd team (Whitecaps II) - and be another Kiwi to monitor in the USL League.

It's basically a trial, according to that Stuff article up there

The Stuff article to which you refer

Actually I note Kip Colvey signed In January last year as 49th MLS draft pick, was then on trial with San Jose and was offered a full time contract about 6 weeks later in early March 2016.

Fingers crossed deVreis can do the same.

So de Vries has been drafted 7th in round 2, 29th overall pick. Slightly surprised considering mock drafts had him between 18-12 and had him as the 3rd best center back at the draft after having a solid combine series and showing that he could keep up with the fastest players there. (Which was Mandy's concern over him)

Being an international player definitely hurt him. And to take a teams international slot you are going to have to be a player fighting at least for the starting 11. Will definitely be a training player and would see him link up with fellow kiwi Deklan Wynne. It's hard being a center back at this level due to experienced needed but also that in MLS the spine of the team are where all the designated players are.

Kip Colvey seeing at SJ was 3rd choice left back but after 2 injuries above him he got his chance. It has helped that he is half American too. But also kinder for him as MLS are not stacked with quality left backs nor right backs. This is helped with the fact that no team wastes their big money contracts (designated player) on fullbacks
