Keegan Jelacic is getting a lot of time at AM for the Roar in pre-season & has scored a couple goals. Their Japanese visa player will probably take his spot but he might pick up a scholarship deal.

Aidan Munford and Van Elia have joined Wollongong Wolves.

Just so happens the Nix are based in Wollongong...

Not that we need anyone else right now, but do you think the club has kept an eye on Luke Adams?

Probably not. He has Aussie citizenship & can't recall any A-League team having him on trial either.

Zwetsloot started for the Melbourne Knights last night

Watched a few mins. Commentator said Zwetsloot was trialling at Victory, but they had already filled all their visa spots. Interesting if true.

Really hope he gets back to his pre ACL injury level. Lots of promise if so, but won't happen over night.

Brockie as well.

I presume NZF/Hay are keeping tabs on some of these NPL guys. If an A League Socceroos v AWs game ever happened (warm pre WC qualifiers in June?) would likely need a couple of these NPL players to fleece out an AWs squad.

Plus 1st round OFC WC qualifiers now scheduled for June. Likely to be held as some sort of tourney/hub. Who knows where that could be.

One of the Islands maybe. I'm guessing most of the Island countries with their low Covid numbers (except Tahiti & PNG) have fairly open borders between each other at the moment.

Or could be in NZ or even as an Australian hub if they have more open borders to Island countries compared to NZ.

Or finally Australia may have a more open border to any players looking to fly in from Europe (even if not Australian citizens) if they have the vaccine. Jacinda seems to want more data around the vaccine, before agreeing to let in anyone vaccinated, sans 2 weeks MIQ.

As always lots of moving parts with Covid. But imagine OFC/FIFA will be desperate to get qualifiers started no later than June. World Cup is next year after all.

OFC announced last week that World Cup qualifying would now likely take place next January.

Scott Hilliar at Avondale in Victoria and Hayden McHenery at Brisbane City another two. Shane Smeltz was meant to be back at Gold Coast United again too, but hasn't played as yet.

In VIC NPL, I note Trevor Zwetsloot has played 11 games for 5th placed Melbourne Knights (9 starts). He did however miss the Knights game last weekend against Hume City. At Oly Whites camp in Auckland? Trialling with an A League side? Someone mentioned elsewhere he was on an A League's team radar.

Last weekend was the first round of VIC NPL games, after a 4 week Covid suspension of games.

Hamish Watson has 5 played games for 9th placed Dandenong Thunder (4 starts), with one goal in his first game.

Left his Nix scholarship deal early to play for Tasman & was back up to Basalaj at TeeDubs at one stage. I assume he was playing Central League as well?

Not a full summary of NPL Kiwis, just a short one.

Victorian NPL the season, ended up cancelled on 3 September
NSW NPL the season, ended up cancelled on 12 August
QLD NPL season was suspended between late July and late August. But season finished with finals.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021_National_Premier_Leagues

VIC NPL
Trevor Zwetsloot (Melbourne Knights, 8th of 14 teams when league cancelled) - hopefully he's over that long term ACL injury and can find a pro gig somewhere. Still think Nix, could have a look at him. Probably already have.
Luke Adams (SMFC, 9th)
Emlyn Wellsmore, Michael Eagar & Andrew Withers (Port Melbourne Sharks, 7th)
Scott Hilliar (Avondale, 1st)
Hamish Watson (Dandenong Thunder FC, 5th) - Watto with 4 goals from his 9 matches

NSW NPL
Van Elia (Wollongong Wolves, sat 7th of 12 teams when league cancelled) - he didn't play after April
Aidan Munford (Wollongong Wolves) - now in Brisbane Roar A League squad

Interesting that renowned Sydney FC Youth were actually bottom of the log when league called off. I guess they probably have the whole squad raided most years.
https://websites.mygameday.app/comp_info.cgi?c=1-10179-0-577054-0&pool=1&a=LADDER

QLD NPL
Keegan Jelacic (Brisbane Roar Youth, 2nd in QLD NPL. Lost semi 3-0 to Brisbane Olympic FC) - Still only 19. Scored a very healthy 9 goals in 13 goals (11 starts). One to watch. Did miss 4 months mid season (March-July) when league was still going, so maybe out injured for awhile.

Some updates sourced from https://twitter.com/nplcentral on player movement before the NPL gets underway tonight. No doubt more Kiwi movement in Australia which may come to light as the leagues get underway.

  • Port Melbourne Sharks (VIC NPL) now have 4 Kiwis it seems: Michael Eager, Andrew Withers, Emlym Wellsmore and Dan Edwards
  • Peninsula Power (QLD NPL) have picked up Dan Morgan from Maritzburg United
  • Aidan Munford now at Lions FC (QLD NPL) having spent time with Brisbane Roar
  • South Melbourne (VIC NPL) - Jai Ingham
  • Green Gully (VIC NPL) have picked up Luke Adams from South Melbourne
  • Zander Guy went from Peninsula Power to St Albans (VIC NPL)

Side note: Vince Lia is a Player Assistant Coach at Altona Magic (VIC NPL)
