In more important news... Transfermarkt does indeed say he's contract runs out at the end of next season. I could swear he was off contract at the end of this season. So either Empoli pulled a fast one, or I got it wrong. In any case, good news for Libby. He's playing, they have a good chance of staying up, and at the same time if the right offer came, I'm sure both he and Empoli would look at it
I hate when fouls are called for players collecting the opposition after winning the ball. It means they got there first, if you stick your leg there afterwards, that's on you for being to slow IMO.
You either win the ball or you don't.
There's nothing in the laws about winning the ball making something not a foul. You can hate it all you want, it's simply not relevant in a challenge like this.
Out of curiosity - work won't let me access the link (firewalls and all) can someone answer me this question...
Does Walker slide in to win the ball and assuming he does, how much earlier are his movements that Carcaces - if they are?
Having snapped my tibia and fibula in footy (deliberate leg break) I am all for dangerous play being taken out of the game. But from what I saw, both players dived/slid/stretched out for the ball at the same time.
How is Cacace suppose to predict Walker would slide for the ball - arguably in his mind it was his to win (as shown by the fact he got there first). Walker was late to the ball which was why Cacace won it, and as a result he got caught by the follow through. Half a second later, Walker would be catching Cacace on the shin, and then he'd be looking at a red.
If Walker had control of the ball, and the above happened, instant Red, no doubt... but he didn't.
Dumb take. Cacace is moving directly towards walker. Walker is moving perpendicular to Cacace. You'd have a point if they were both lunging directly at each other.MetalLegNZ

Off at 84min (2-0) in a 3-0 loss at Udinese. 3rd straight loss for Empoli who now have a real fight on their hands to stay up. Libby is one yellow card away from suspension
On the highlights on my DAZN app his is the first: he picks up the ball in his box, and I’m sure Tim Payne had seen this when he decided to try and carry the ball from his own box today, and he carries the ball all the way down the inside left wing, turning back inside and feeding the ball out to a winger when he gets to the opponent’s box, for it to be flashed in low and hard and shot just the wrong side of the post. Unfortunately, it’s removed from the YouTube highlights. A box to box ball carry. From CB!
I think it’s the most remarkable thing I’ve seen him do in his career.
If you can find a copy of it, it will brighten your day.
Libby and Empoli come down with a touch of the "Nix". 3-0 down at HT, 5-0 down at full time. Atalanta absolutely took Empoli apart and their home stadium woes continue. Full game Libby. With Parma winning, they are now in the relegation zone (for the first time this season IIRC).

2 points from their past 11 games in Serie A. They're definitely in relegation type form!
Next up - Juventus in the Coppa Italia on Thursday.
Wonder if the Turkish interest will be rekindled if Empoli end up going down?
Oh gosh. All the highlights are in the Empoli box. Cacace not at fault for the first 3. At fault for the fourth as he shepards a through ball, but doesn’t get close enough and the striker gets a shot away and scores. 5th goal he’s upfield on an attack, so not at fault there either. Best he could hope really! Playing LCB in a 3/5 with a bit of tactical license to bomb forward on occasion it seems. Miserable highlights for Empoli. 8 minutes odd and only a couple of good moments for them.
Despite their league woes, Empoli are actually 1-0 up at HT. Libby on the pitch and had a a penalty shout waved away by the ref. It would be massive if they end up beating Juve
Juventus levelled it up close to the 70 minute mark, score remains the same at the end of 90+ minutes, we're going to penalties and Libby is still on the field.
Massive that he’s trusted with a penalty and also that when Pezella was subbed on he was kept on, I’m going to assume at LCB as it was a CB taken off. Heh, frustratingly my app wasn’t working for this game.
First time in Empoli's history they have made Coppa Italia semis!
Libby Cacace scored in the shootout as Empoli shrugged off their awful recent form by knocking Juventus out of the Coppa Italia - advancing to the semis for the first time in club history
Full game in a 1-1 draw vs fellow relegation battlers Genoa who tie the game in the last 10 minutes. 3 points would have been very welcome for the Tuscan side...but I guess a point is a point
Libby again at LCB in a back 3/5. Empoli are 18th and in the drop zone, but only a pt behind Parma (17th).
Empoli host NZP's team Roma next. 11 rounds to go.
A really good performance at the back for him though - 4/4 tackles won, 6/7 aerial duels won, 8 clearances and 2 interceptions. For a guy who's defensive attributes have often been maligned in the past, it's fantastic to see.
1-0 to Roma at HT. There's an abyss sized gap between the two teams. Empoli have been feeding off the scraps and managed two shots (from Roma defenders' stray passes), but Roma have hit the woodwork twice and came incredibly close once more. Libby has shown he has a great touch, but he hasn't been involved much at all. It's hard to find any Empoli player who has to be fair.
He was moved to CB in the second half, with Pezzella playing as LWB. He put in a good shift and had to contend with Matia Soulè and subsequently with Tommaso Baldanzi, arguably two of the more gifted players in the Roma squad, and he acquitted himself well. But Empoli had very little going forward. Final score 1-0 to Roma and Empoli slip to -2 points from Parma and -3 from Lecce, who are both outside of the relegation zone. Next up is Torino (11th).
Weird, I’ll have to watch the highlights. Team sheet I’ve got has him in one of his other positions, LCB in a back 3. Maybe that’s what happened when Sambia was subbed.
Aren't Besiktas one of those clubs that sign dozens of players, who are given a short window to showcase themselves, with many quickly discarded and then sent out on loan elsewhere?
No doubt I'm exaggerating, but it was certainly a bit that way when Tyler Boyd was there.
I wouldn't be a fan of Libby at only 24 (25 in Sept) going to Turkey now.
