The more the merrier, it will help drive up the price & we get a small percentage of that!

If he goes for around about the €4 million that has been quoted in the media, then the Nix will pick up a handy €80,000 ($155,000 NZD) and Island Bay United will pocket a figure of about ½ of that.

Not bad.

He’s agreed to join Wrexham according to reports in Italy.

Yeah, I posted in the mid year transfer thread. Interesting move, and likely a better one than going to a club fighting to avoid relegation yet again in Italy...

Quite an underwhelming move imo. I think he’s much better than a newly promoted championship side. I also find it odd how clubs like Besiktas, Roma etc were interested but he ends up at Wrexham. Albeit they’re a club on the rise but getting to the premier league will be a whole new mission.
16 Jul 20:13
It's a great window though for a bigger move - Wrexham gets massive coverage globally. If he does well there, the world will know + he is on the door step of the Premier League which can only be a good thing IMO.

What I find funny is how people can now see the Championship as a poor move, 10 years ago outside of Wood we would have been saying how great it is to see a kiwi get signed to a club at that level.
16 Jul 20:23
Tbh Roma were never interested, I can tell you that. Someone was having fun or his agent was working overtime. We had no coach and a departing sporting director at that time, so who exactly was interested?
I do think Wrexham will stay up and love them or hate them, the owners have shown themselves to be smart business people ans I wouldn't be surprised to see them in the EPL im the next 2-3 years. Worth a gamble if playing in arguably the best league in the world...

Underwhelming? The global coverage alone is enough to get anyone interested. Then, add the trajectory of the club and the plan to be in the EPL. They'll be a solid mid table championship team right now, but they'll be targeting promotion again this season which has to be exciting for any player!!

Plus the Championship is hardly much of a step down from Italy. Considering how strong the English football pyramid is right now the Championship is not far behind Italy in terms of quality
16 Jul 21:25
If true good on him. Likely to be playing in the first team and wil have lots of eyes on him if his dream is to play premiership football.

Now how do I watch the championship this year, with three kiwis and maybe more in it!!

Key word someone mentioned above was ‘ Businessman’ All it takes is for Reynolds etc to pull the plug after a couple of mid table finishes and cash in on the club they’ve respectfully transformed. They’re is no guarantee these guys will be invested in the club forever. The Wrexham wave is cool and all because they’ve been on cloud 9 the last couple years but that can all change really quickly.

Cacace has established himself as a top 5 league player and I’m just disappointed he’s ended up at Wrexham out of all clubs.

Hopefully I am proven wrong for the sake of his success but there were definitely better options on the table.

I am thinking the same thing. Looks like the cheapest legit way is through bein sports. $12/$14 per month.
https://connect-nz.beinsports.com/en/select-plan

You can do the follow a club thing through wrexham but that is only wrexham content and costs like 140 GBP per year. Plus, Chatgpt mentioned there was some blackout rules, probably for nz streaming rights, so if its on Bein you want even be able to watch it on Wrexham TV(Live).

"For specific Wrexham club content, check their iFollow service—just be aware of blackout rules if matches are on beIN."

https://www.wrexhamafc.co.uk/videos/subscriptions

Either way I will wait to closer to the season starts, so I can fully check the tv guides of what they will be streaming on Bein, in case Championship is dropped or only select games or something.

That seems very unlikely. If you watch the first season of the doco it's pretty clear that the owners arent gonna jump ship on the back of a few mid table finishes, they've invested heavily into the community an the club.

Respectfully... This ain't it. He'll be on way better money I reckon at Wrexham, than it he ended up at Cremonese/Pisa/Lecce. The depth of talent in the Championship is ridiculous, and Wrexham is also probably his best path to the Premier League. He'll also be one of the best players in the team - a team that has a massive audience. I think it's a pretty huge move tbh.

Do gotta love how some on here seem to think they know better than Libby whats best for his career at the moment. These supposed better offers mean shark its not all about money.
If some cant see the exposure he is going get you must be blind.
As for suggesting Reynolds is going to cash up and sell out NOTHING they have done yet suggests thats likely.

Every little bit counts.
€50,000 ($97,000) for the €2.5 million transfer.

But with the transfer expected to rise to €3.5 million in total, the Nix would pocket €70,000 ($137,000) all up.

Island Bay would take home somewhere between $48,000 - $68,000 on those same transfer figures.

For Stuff to report on it, it must have genuine legs.
https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/360758489/wrexham-sign-all-whites-star-liberato-cacace-ahead-wellington-game-report

Look at for any Cacace sightings in Welly the next few days. Libby taking Phil Parkinson to La Bella Italia for a meal to meet his family would be fantastic 'Welcome to Wrexham' marketing.

17 Jul 00:02
I'm not convinced this is really happening. I did some digging 2 weeks ago and all I could find was a random comment on the Wrexham forums.

Some random dude said. "hey, why don't we sign a LB like Cacace".

Then from there a few people said "Oh someone mentioned a rumour about Cacace".

I'd be happy if it happens though. Will wait and see...

Maybe he wants to appear in a few movies after he’s done with the football?

He knows that Welsh weather is worse than Wellington’s? Bye bye to warm weather and white wine.

Interesting move, if it happens!

Maybe I should have given it more time, but I couldn't watch it past Ep1 Series 1.
Some dreary fish n chip owner who's been a season ticket holder since he was in nappies. Plans to replace the crumbling grand stands. Finance grant applications. Not. That. Interesting. Give me some make believe Ted Lasso storylines. Each to their own.

Maybe Libby needs to dust off that Petone schoolboy moped, for getting to training. I can see that being a something different. He has a mischievous personality the storywriters could milk.

One things for real this and Wrexham in town means the Phoenix might get some positive press for the 1st time in ages and consign our northern rivals to the back pages for a couple of days. 😁😁😉

Every season has been a litle different, 2 and 3 focussed a lot on the football, whereas this season (4) a little more on the extra investment being made into the community and other charity stuff.
Good for an easy watch and a feel good story.

These documentaries as long as they have good access to the team and players are full of interesting bits. Wrexham has a great story of mainly success, super easy watching.

The sunderland documentary on the other hand, also well made (especially season 1) is a great exerpt into complete club failure

Unlikely. Unfortunately doesn't sound like Libby is even in NZ.

Seeing as he was in Wellington, Parkinson said he planned to celebrate the signing with glass of wine at Cacace’s family’s restaurant La Bella.

Wrexham were hoping announce the signing while in New Zealand, though it appears unlikely Cacace will be making a surprise appearance at the game.

“Libby is obviously a player we’ve looked at. It’s not finalised as of yet but I’ve spoken to Libby and I love his character and his personality. If we can get the signing completed he’s a player who will fit in with the culture we’ve created at Wrexham,” Parkinson said.

“What a coincide that we’re in Wellington that his family have a restaurant. We’ll see how the deal progresses but it’d be nice to go down and have a glass of wine with his dad today and introduce myself.”
