Im coming round to the idea of Libby playing under Musky. Hes still so young, and as long as he plays at Sint Truden, he could then push on to a bigger club eventually.

Muscat was a cod on the park but off it, he is meant be to a decent bloke. Iffy said he was the best Captain he ever played under.

Sint Truden does feel like a safer way to dip his toes into the big swimming pool that is Europe. Coaches that know the environment he has come from, a good level of football & a club that he should start at.

two years and two players go from the Nix to sign for European clubs. This is fantastic. Uffie has seen Elliot and Hudson Wihongi force their way into contention. This is something we expect now- another year and another kiwi prodigy.

In Morrison, Dome and Uffie we trust. Already a great legacy- but as others were saying lets bring finals back to the ROF.

If he is going to a Belgian club, then as their season has started already, should be in the news pretty soon?

The thing I'm really pleased about with Libby is from the first game he played for us, you could see he was a real talent. That was 2.5 years ago and he has improved massively each subsequent season. I really hope the kid has a bright future.

Remember that game so fondly. All his mates from St Pats showed up

He also showed up for his mates games - he tried to get a run in Div 3 Sunday League last summer but the ref wouldn't let him!

Disappointed by this news to be honest. He can do a lot better then this team and Belgian football generally.

Don't know where else to put this, and can't find it anywhere else; the stuff article on the players heading back to NZ mentioned that Libby was heading to Europe for personal reasons as we knew. However it also said Marinovic and McCowatt were heading to Europe as well - possibility of something transfer related there?

Marinovic's partner is in Germany.

So all fingers point to a Sint Truden transfer. I guess the question is, for how much? Surely the nix wouldntve accept an offer under 800k

They sold off their starting LB for 700k Euro, so fingers crossed most of that. When talking about Singh's transfer, a 650k Euro figure gets thrown around in stuff from Germany.

I'm ok with a smaller fee if we have a higher sell on percentage as his value will only go up now he is in Europe... how much would Singh be worth now??

Such a bloody shame Covid took away the chance for Libby to get the farewell he deserved. Has been a great to watch his development and hopefully even more fun watching how far he can go. Thanks Libby go well stay safe.

Speaking of sell on fees, do we still get a % of the young mexican lad who was at the Nix academy and now apparently onto big things? Not sure how many years/teams this sell on fee goes for.

any move into Europe at 19 is hardly underwhelming. I doubt it was the muscat connection although him knowing libby and what he is capable off probably helped the offer to arrive. I would be certain the big win for Libby and family was that Luc Trani is at the cliub. He would have gotten beside Libby's aprents and told them he'd take care of the kid and make sure he settled in etc.

Libby will have moved on before his 3 years are done....

100% it was the Muscat et al connection. You've pretty much answered that in the rest of your paragraph

Moving to a European club where he should excel and stand-out, rather than a club where he's just another small fish in a big pond is actually pretty unusual given that he apparently had a choice. Given how the latter has worked out for other former A-League stars it might turn out to be the best move.

I would have liked him to go to a bigger league and club but after reflection this is ok and probably best for his long term development.

He may well after two years be in just a good place as Singh is after his two at Bayern, in terms of a transfer at the end of a two year stint to a club at a decent level where he is guaranteed first team action.

i am not sure how comparable the Belgium league would be to division 2 in Germany but assume it may be at the same level.

Also gives me another league to follow!!

Poor move from Libby to drop to such a low level of Euro football standards, Another Rojas/ Chris James in the making.

I'd say Belgian pro league would be slightly better than Bundesliga 2. tbh some very good players in the league. A good example of a young player excelling recently is Jonathan David whos now moved on to Ligue 1 so I think its a decent move for Libby to get some exposure in Europe while not moving up too quickly

I have no problem with Libby going to Belgium, the standard is pretty good and a notable step up from the A-league. Maybe slightly disappointing that he's not going to one of the better Belgian clubs, but if he plays well, he will be noticed.

Totally agree with Boxy. Is Belgium a bad move? No. Is going to St Truiden? Maybe.
On the other hands he's a good lad, with his head firmly screwed on his shoulders, a good supporting family so who's to say the move won't work out? If he does well he'll get picked up by the likes of Anderlecht or possibly an even better club in a top league.

Good luck to him. I really look forward to seeing how he goes.

The key is moving to somewhere where you will get game time. Muscat and co know exactly what they are getting, so he should be in their first team plans pretty quickly.

I've always thought highly of Luc Trani. It would have been interesting if he had got the gig here after Ricki left. But that's another story. I used to go to the training sessions and it was him running the show pretty much during our very good Ricki spell.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!
