Seems he's taking a visa spot at the Glory??

Trialled twice at the Nix. Won't reflect so great on their scouting if he is a success in Perth. Or did the Glory offer him more cash, andf/or greater chance of playing time?

OFC Pro League doing it's job as a shop window for young Kiwis. He was one of Auckland's better performers. Normann, Prins, Wynne & now Ellis.

Glory Football Director Stan Lazaridis believes Ellis’ pace and direct style will add another dimension to Perth’s attack.

“Matt is a winger whose blistering pace makes him very difficult to defend against.

“He also has a good goalscoring record and quick feet and will provide another important attacking option for us this season.

“We’re lacking out-and-out wingers in our squad and wingers of Matt’s profile are not easy to find.

“We feel that he’s been overlooked and is exactly the type of player we need.

“Matt is the kind of exciting, high-energy wide player who gets people out of their seats and I’m sure our Members and fans will really enjoy watching him play.”

not sure it reflects badly on anyone to be fair, perhaps when he trialled with us he wasnt as polished as he is now, just raw pace and no end product, maybe he's worked on that over time. We've had plenty of pacy wingers over the years, so has the league, very few have been great finishers.

Queenslander 3x a year.

Cristian Volpato got cut by WSW & Sydney's academies, told he was never going to make it. Look at him now.

There are plenty of examples of players overlooked by teams. He has got his chance & now it is up to him to prove us wrong. I wish him the all the success in the world with that.

Oh for sure. And maybe he turned the Nix down for this Glory opportunity. I mean if Perth have signed him as a visa, the expectation is they will definitely give him playing time.

Maybe Greeny couldn't give such a promise??

It's just that people are saying the Nix need another 1 or more genuine wingers. Walker the only real one at the moment in the squad. And in Ellis here is a young Kiwi who has trialled at NZCIS twice before, and did well in the OPL as a first taste of pro football.

Hopefully he grabs his chance, and the Nix have some other Kiwis (Academy?) lined up to join Walker. If so win win for NZ football overall.

[Off Topic] Not sure why people are hung up on a lack of wingers at the Nix. Greenacre didn't play Armiento cuz he was a winger and didn't suit the 4-2-2-2 he wants to play. [/Off Topic]

Hadn't seen any mention of Ellis being on trial at the Glory, so this is a huge show of faith if they signed him based of his OFC form.
