Deserves his own thread now.

Makes his first matchday squad for the Fulham first team. Starts from the bench today against relegation threatened Leicester City.

Massive congratulations to the lad. 👏

No Dibley-Dias debut today unfortunately, but a fantastic experience for him to be elevated to the first team squad. That and he got to be pitch side as his Fulham side won a high scoring affair against the foxes. It finished 5-3.

And this is why he's not in Argentina with the u20's - He backed himself to crack the first team squad before seasons end having met with Marco Silva before u20 squad was named.

Next up, hopefully a club debut. 🤞

Does a premier league match day squad appearance warrant a call up against Sweden?

Yes - but he won't come to us. Not now.

18 years old and getting ready to make a prem debut, sure the senior teams won't be looking at him, but the junior squads will be. He may give himself another 5 - 6 years to make Argentina etc before coming to us (if at all) if he doesn't make it.

We would need to show a massive upswing in potential as a National Team to even warrant the consideration. Plus more meaningful fixtures.

Playing Sweden won’t cap tie him though. Realistically he’s still a long way away from England, Brazil and Portugal. So maybe NZF can sell him on the idea of being in a squad alongside Singh, Garbett, Stamenic will help his development. Optimistic view

Plus it’s not uncommon for EPL clubs who have nothing to play for bringing youngsters into their squad at season end. He could still be years away from regularly playing EPL/ Championship football if ever. But he is obviously highly promising. Read that his Mum’s side of the family are from Welly, so stronger NZ ties than I first thought

Edit - oh & I remember rubbishing the chances of Boyd ever being picked for the USMNT. How wrong I (and others) were.

Brazil, Portugal, England and NZ are his options. I can see him making youth squads for all three of those other options but long term surely NZ are the only realistic choice.

Is like 19 continous years now starting with Nelsen of a Kiwi playing in the EPL, a nice little record. So if Forest go down hopefully Dibley-Dias does put his hand up for the AWs!

We can't underestimate what a massive carrot we can now offer all prospective Kiwis, with WC qualification all but assured every 4 years.
The lad has many options, and we're definitely the safest one for him. Doesn't mean he will commit, but I think the potential lack of competition and prospect of playing in 4 WCs in his career could be huge

We'll get him eventually.

The next step for him is to see out this season with Fulham, make a few more matchday squads and maybe even a cheeky appearance or two given they are safe, but don't really have too much more to play for aside from pride. Thought for sure when they were 5-1 up the other morning that he was going to get a run, but just goes to show that there are no free rides in the Premier League. However, perfect opportunity for him to get his name in the picture for pre season 23/24 and their tour of America which is one of his short term goals.

Still expect to see him out on a loan for more first team experience next term.

Makes the subs bench in Fulham's last game of the season, a trip to the Theatre of Dreams.

Unfortunately doesn't get on as Fulham go down to Man U, 2-1.
Still a pretty cool experience to be pitchside. 2 sub appearances in the EPL.

Fulham off to the States for a pre season USA tour in July. Still reckon NZF should invite Dibley-Dias into AWs camp for June friendlies if possible. Pity he's not in Argentina.

Unfortunately no questions in this Q&A about his plans for international football. He grew up in Kilburn. I had a few years living nearby in Kensal Green in the late 90s. Still got a jacket I bought Kilburn High Road 1997! Read somewhere that his Mum still has family in NZ.

Wiki tells me he died in 2000 in Hampstead. I remember Kilburn back then had alot of working class Irish. Might have been gentrified since then.

Flying Kiwis, noted that next year's Olympics could be target carrot to dangle in front of him. That's presuming none of England, Brazil or Portugal pick him for their U23s, or they fail to qualify for Paris 2024.

The familiar we want him to be good, but not too good conumdrum.

The good thing now is that he is getting the visibility in this part of the world!

The fact that there are more and more resources and people and media talking about him and linking him to New Zealand can only be a good thing. If we can now sell to him that he could play with the most talented generation of footballers this country has ever produced then what a great string to the bow that would be!

Realistically though, would put good money on it that he'll be sent out on loan this term.

I know this is simplistic but if he’s also eligible for England, Brazil, and Portugal I feel like he’d be a bigger deal if he was at all a chance to make any of those senior teams. That makes me think that if he plays international football at all it will likely be for us.

But am I right in thinking the Olympics wouldn’t tie him to NZ? If so it makes sense to represent us in France next year and see what happens.

6 years ago I (and many others) scoffed at the idea Tyler Boyd would ever be good enough to crack the USMNT. How wrong I was - even if it was a short lived dalliance.

But Brazil, England & Portugal - you have got to be seriously good to ever play a competitive fixture for either of those 3.

It could be a drawn out courtship with the AWs, but a greater than 50% chance surely that he eventually plays for us. It could be late 2025 or even early 2026, before he makes that call.

Unless he commits to us soon, he is still young so he could potentially have a massive breakout that put those nations on his radar. As there are definitely a few youngsters that have come through clubs academies that aren't the most hyped-up wonder kids and breakthrough into the first team.

So if he manages to get into the first team and plays well could maybe get on one of those nations' radar? But if I was a betting man the chances of him making those squads would be quite low so I think we should have a pretty good chance at him.

From Flying Kiwis.

More Premier League preseason activities over here. Fulham just got done with their American holiday having played three friendly games against fellow EPL clubs as part of the Premier League’s Summer Series. Chelsea won the meaningless trophy so good for them. They beat Fulham 2-0 in the last game or else the Cottagers would have lifted it instead. Here’s the thing we’re here for...
  • Fulham vs Brentford - Matt Dibley-Dias subbed on in the 83rd minute

  • Fulham vs Aston Villa - Matt Dibley-Dias subbed on in the 61st minute

  • Fulham vs Chelsea – Matt Dibley-Dias subbed on in the 81st minute

Not only did MDD make the trip to the States but he ended up featuring in all three games. Obviously they’ll tighten things up as they get into the competitive stuff but he’s showing already that he’ll be challenging for that Premier League debut this season. Coach Marco Silva seems to really rate him.

Up Next: Opening league fixture is Everton vs Fulham on 13 August at 2am (NZT)

Cool. But that must kill any rumours he's going to play the Olympics OFC qualifying tourney for NZ U23s later this month.

Still if that rumour is even half true, seems to indicate he has interest in playing for NZ which is great news.

No Dibley-Dias as Fulham win on pens. 1-1 end of NT.

23 yr old Olyroo Tyrese Francois who sat on the bench for the Socceroos against AWs last year, got 10 mins off the bench for Fulham. He's been at Craven Cottage 6 years now, but only had 2 starts in the EPL.

Contract extension through to 2027 for Dibley-Dias 👏

Had been in the pipeline for a while. Nice to see him rewarded for his consistency and hard work, especially at the PL2 level where he's been churning out performances for that side.

Next up, hopefully a first team debut 🤞

Seems though that Bazeley will only be sounding out for the first time Bindon, Dibley-Dias & Iredale when in the UK for the Socceroos friendly. And you'd think that would most likely happen post the game at Brentford, as will only have a few days in London pre the game after arriving from the Congo match in Spain.

I don't think any of the 3 will be in the AWs squad in October, from what Bazeley is saying. Though yes Dibley-Dias seems the most likely to make a decision in the short term.

Don't forget that Bazeley had been in contact with Dibley-Dias for the U-20's.

I think the 'We'll have a catch up when we get there' is also a bit of a ruse/have, because I've been told that contact has already been made this time around.

Starting and the Captain's armband as the Fulham U-21's head across London to take on Leyton Orient in the pizza cup.

Fulham currently 2-1 up just after the hour mark.

Should also point out Fulham are joint top of the PL2 table - 2nd only on goal difference with Tottenham. So a strong start to the U-21 campaign so far this term.

"Although being given the New Zealand call-up, the youngster hasn't declared himself to any country as of yet."

What's this supposed to mean? He'll just be joining the camp but won't play to limit other options?
