Starting again as Minnesota looking to continue their good run of recent form.

On the road against Montreal and currently leading 3-2 with 15 minutes to go.

Minnesota been on fire in front of goal lately since their loss to the Rapids. Last 5 games - 20 goals scored, and if the result stays as it is today that'll be 5 victories in a row.

Also good to see Boxall get back into the starting XI and getting good minutes after being benched earlier in the season after some sub-par performances.

Finishes 3-2 to Minnesota, who are now 4th in the Western Conference.

Boxall 90 mins.

From this week's Flying Kiwis, some great little quotes from Boxall re his somewhat freakish goal last week.

Michael Boxall: “Just give me a knife and fork there and I will finish it off. That doesn’t happen often.”

Michael Boxall: “[I was] just telling myself to smash it home. I saw the keeper there, but I think when he sees a big, ugly 6’2 Kiwi running at him, he didn’t want too much of it. So yeah, I got there first.”

Adrian Heath: “If you look back to the second game of the season, [Boxall] had four or five of them in that game when he nearly made it to the penalty area. Sometimes you don't realize how much space you've got. That was my only disappointment at times: we didn't use the fact that they do play man-to-man and if you clear the space and you open big spaces up, you can actually run the length of the field nearly. But he did great and kept going and got himself a goal.”

Michael Boxall: “I got way too high and the air is a lot thinner out there so I wanted to give it to someone who is better on the ball than me and that’s just about everyone on our team. I’m not sure what I was thinking when I was carrying on the run. I think when I’m running at that speed, it takes a little while for me to slow down… I scored and then I ran along the goal line and I remember seeing all the guys in the bibs warming up so I was like ‘Let’s celebrate with them. But then I was like ‘That’s the other team,’ so probably not a good idea.”

Gorgeous stuff – creative too, using the defender for a wall pass, ingenious. And if he wasn’t already the most quotable of the Flying Kiwis then he surely is now after laying down a selection of Steven Adams worthy yarns about the goal. A goal that then compelled San Jose to go even harder and Vito Mannone made a trio of decent saves to keep the Loons on top before Kevin Molino polished things off at the end, a 3-1 win for Minnesota United in what their gaffer had said was their biggest game of the season. Not bad.

Good to see him fully entrenched back in the starting role, having lost it earlier this season.

90 mins in a 6-1 thrashing of USL side New Mexico in QF of the US Open Cup.

14 Jul 02:13

Boxall with a full 90 as Minnesota continue their recent good form with a 1-0 over FC Dallas.

Reto Ziegler missed a penalty in time added on for Dallas.

Minnesota up to 3rd in the Western Conference with that result.

Full game as Minnesota pinch it late (91 mins) to beat FC Dallas 1-0.

Dallas with a disallowed an equaliser at 98 mins.

Minnesota up to 3rd in the West (behind the two LA teams). Best MLS season for them now, since joining comp in 2017.

Actually was a saved pen at 98 mins by keeper Mannone, not a disallowed goal.

7 wins in a row for Minnesota.

Looks a cool new stadium, obviously helped by the drama in this game. Lots of designated standing areas.

Full game and a yellow, as Minnesota leave it late (goal at 92 mins) to beat Portland 1-0.

From highlights Timbers unlucky not to get a point at least.

Tuiloma not in match day squad for Portland.

There will be a repeat game on Thursday when same teams meet in US Open Cup semi final.

FYI - See Ryan Thomas's old coach at PEC Zwolle, has been signed up by FC Cincinnati, in MLS.

Pretty sure Tuiloma travelled down to El Paso with Timbers II for the match that was postponed due to events that went on down there yesterday. ?

They'll have all the support around them that they need, but what a horrible thing to have to go through.

US Open Cup semi final.

Boxall starts for Minnesota and Tuiloma on the bench for Portland.

Going on their MLS game a few days ago will be a close exciaffair.

Atlanta already through to the final, beating Orlando in other SF.

Minnesota through to the final with a 2-1 win.

Boxall a full game, and a yellow card.

Tuiloma stayed on the bench for Timbers, who would have been chasing an equalizer at the end (when 2-1 down at 64 mins).

Full game and a yellow, as Minnesota lose a high scoring affair 5-3 away to Dallas.

3-3 until 85 mins.

Looks like it must have been hot in Texas, with mention of hydration breaks. That won't have helped Minnesota who played midweek.

They were also unlucky to hit the post at about 90 mins, when down 4-3.

11 Aug 03:05

That was a cracking game. Loved it.

28 Aug 02:10

Full game in the US Open Cup final.

Unfortunately Minnesota lose 2-1 at Atlanta.

28 Aug 02:38

Sucks! Be nice to see a Kiwi pick up a trophy for a change!

Boxall starting as Minnesota (7th) travel to runaway Western Conference MLS leaders LAFC, who are 16 points clear at the top with a +46 GD.

Luckily for Boxall and his team mates, home side are missing top goal scorer Carlos Vela. 27 goals in 26 MLS games!

Full game as Minnesota, in a big upset win 2-0.

20 yr old Mason Toye with 2 classy strikes.

Full game and contributes to a clean sheet as Minnesota draw 0-0 at Portland.

https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019/09/22/highlights-portland-timbers-vs-minnesota-united-fc-september-22-2019?autoplay=true

Tuiloma relegated to the bench for the Timbers, after a couple of mixed performances of late. Replaced by the experienced Mabiala, who returns after a month out injured. Subbed on for 10 minutes late as an attacking fullback.

Really the biggest problem for Portland has been lack of goals, scoreless in their last 3 home games. Hit the woodwork at least twice in this one.

Minnesota sit 4th, whilst Timbers sneak ahead of Dallas into 7th (last playoff spot) on GD.

26 Sep 01:12

Minnesota down 0-1 at HT, verus bottom side Sporting KC.

29 Sep 23:29

Minnesota seeking to lock in 2nd spot in the West, host 1st placed LAFC.

Boxall in the centre of defence.

Finishes 1-1 verus LAFC. Who knows they may meet again in the Western Conf playoffs. LAFC are a quality side. Carlos Vela with his 31st goal in 30 MLS games this season!

Minnesota hold onto 2nd ahead of Seattle on GD. Looks like the autumn chill has come to Minny, so that might favour the home team in the playoffs.

Well done to Boxall. After being dropped for a number of games early on, he's become a fixture in a very successful season for Minnesota.

Also seems to be a bit of a fan favourite, re post home game on field fun with his cute little daughter, and just general unassuming humble nature.

30 Sep 03:31

seems to have scored a couple too

Got MOTM as well, as mentioned in Flying Kiwis.
