we are joined now by kiwi striker Rory Fallon
Rory Fallon (Auckland FC Reserves | Northern League)
Rory won Scottish PFA "Goal of the Season" for all leagues in the whole of Scotland last week, gaining more than 40% of the national vote for his famous strike v Hibs in the Scottish Cup semi last month:

He didn't feature in the squad for the Dons last game of the season, a 0-0 draw v St Mirren on the weekend which left them finishing 9th in the 12 team Premier League.
Despite reports of a knee injury suffered in the match on 21 April, Rory did play 69 mins on May 5 in a 0-0 draw with Kilmarnock- so he can't be too injured...

Aberdeen FC star Fallon wants strong start to the season New Zealand striker says he’s back to full fitness
Published: 30/06/2012
ABERDEEN FC striker Rory Fallon today vowed fans will see his best form in the new season.
The New Zealand international striker insisted he is finally back to full fitness after battling long-term injury.
The 30-year-old Aberdeen FC star said: “I feel like I am finally getting my old body back again.”
Wants to focus on his club over the national team

Maybe I took that differently but to me he's saying that he's not willing to step up for his country if they need him - I mean just because he's not going to start doesn't mean that there won't be injuries etc which will mean we will need him. I get that the travel is a huge issue and the club vs country debate has people on both sides, but I think its just not cricket for our overseas based players to not want to come back for World Cup qualifiers but to talk about wanting to play at a World Cup again. If playing at a WC means that much to you you should be available to play in the games that will get your nation there. After the Solomons debacle too I would have thought that the need for everyone to step up would have been clear.

I don't think we should read too much into those comments. My guess is that Fallon knows his place in the All Whites pecking order right now, and accordingly is a little hesitant to risk his spot at Aberdeen. Also, it didn't seem to me as though he was declaring loyalty to club over country in all circumstances, he just seems realistic as to what he stands to lose or gain from playing for either team.
Personally I've never had qualms with Fallon's commitment, I think he's a bit of a donkey football-wise and I know some people have a few personal issues with the guy, but I don't think many would say he isn't committed to the team. I think that same sense of commitment probably applies to his club team as well so it's not hugely suprising that he'd tend to want to help them out rather than warm the bench over here.

Rory Fallon is still recovering from an abdominal strain but not fast enough to take a place on the match card as Aberdeen scored a 2-1 away win over St Johnstone. Fallon has missed the last two Scottish Premier League matches and a mid-week testimonial against a Manchester United XI at Pittodrie.
Fallon not even on the bench and not called up for next ofc qualifiers. Is he injured?

Rory Fallon's stomach injury continues to keep him off the pitch but his influence within Aberdeen has allowed young kiwi Te Atawhai Hudson-Wihongi an opportunity to trial at Pittodrie.

scored in a 1-1 draw away against Killie.
according to the bbc "It was a delightful finish, Rory Fallon half-volleying past Bell early on".
Rory Fallon's brilliant volley gave the Pittodrie side the lead they deserved before Paul Heffernan got Kilmarnock back on terms five minutes before half-time.
Bell bravely blocked at the feet of Milsom following some excellent build-up play by Fallon and the New Zealand international wasted a chance from the resulting corner - heading over the top after rising unchallenged to meet Hughes' cross.

This was his goal against Kilmarnock
Funny it is. Rory scores few goals but when he does its either very important ala 2009 or it is spectacular (Plymouth and Aberdeen).

He's like Brockie - can't score an ugly goal. Although Brockie does score a heck of a lot more. Fallon for Nix.
fallon does a lot more around the pitch than brockie
If his Aberdeen wages are less than Brockie's - let alone Huysegem's - then why not try and get him? He'd get xtra punters in 4 sure.

Rory has a good work rate, would be good to have him leading the line at the nix

To each his own.
Personally I think he's a donkey and the only people who would benefit from him being in the A League would be the orthopaedic surgeons who have to fix the cheekbones he'd smash with his elbows.
Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

he actually has quite a good technique.
seems to have been written off by many after he unsuccessfully tried to smash the crap out of the italians at the world cup. you have to remember our entire game plan was based around smeltz running off fallon's and killen's knock downs, he was just operating under instructions
Oh the exact type of direct football target we need in a possession based game *sheesh*
Grumpy old bastard alert

At least he has been known to put headers on target. Even score from corners. Of course maybe I was imagining that goal against Bahrain.

Ah, I see I'm on the wrong thread here. Fallon's been consigned to history, period.

I thnk we're saying, if we want to move on to a more "modern" style of football, Fallon isn't really the type of player we'd be looking at.
