PEC Zwolle and FC Utrecht were both nominated for the Madame Tussaud Award after having successfuly fielded two panopticums last night in Zwolle.

Here’s a momentum of players modelling to be waxed in the near future,

The most exciting bit of a crap 0-0 draw in a game of two non-halves was the sound of the final whistle.

The 2015/16 Season At A Quick Glance.

It is nothing short of a miracle the ‘Blauwvingers’ reached a Europa League qualifying spot in the first place. This season’s appalling injury list, including Bambi Thomas, conjures up visions of the MASH field hospital.

Veldwijk. Menig. Becker. Bouy. Labelled as ‘enfants terribles’ outside Zwolle. This season is als nothing short of the miraculous way coach Ron Jans blended in and integrated these loan players. Again. It has become his signature. We saw the breakthrough of Marinus, Dekker en Ehizibue. Just to name a few.

Slightly worrying of note is the alarming Dr Jekill and Mr Hyde discrepancy between exciting home & abysmal away performances.

The club is no longer in financial dire straits.

During the close season the ground’s capacity will be lifted towards 13,000 by expanding the ‘Noordtribune’.

At the end of the day, another stout seasonal performance of PEC Zwolle.

Wishing you lot an enchanting close season in your periphery of the hemispheres and hopefully we’ll meet again for 2016/17!

Good Morning, Afternoon or Evening You Kiwi Lot.

I have no decisive or conclusive info on David Browne yet at the time of writing; which is now.

Defender Bart van Hintum has left PEC Zwolle. His replacement is 19 year young and promising Calvin Verdonk, on loan from Feyenoord. He also featured on FC Utrecht’s hit list.

As far as I can see he hasn't been decorated by a tattoo artist and he has not been spotted yet with two refridgerators glued to his ears serving as headphones. Looks promising...

Striker Anass Achachbar of Moroccan descendence is another Feyenoord exponent and former Naranja Mecanica’s U20 player. Achachbar will replace on loan Lars Veldwijk fom Nottingham Forest. His price tag is € 300.000.

Anass Achachbar is destined to be lined up with Mustafa Saymak, Ryan Thomas and Youness Mokhtar in what I would label as a ‘swinging dream attacking quartet’.

Kiwi Thomas is out for the start of the 2016/17 campaign. Bambi has undergone yet another knee surgery for the second time in a short period.

In February 2016 Thomas had surgery on his right kneecap. Last week, the same problem that effected his left kneecap was surgically and also successfully addressed as a ‘precautionary measure’.

During childhood, one’s left and right patella’s consists of various parts, bound to gradually ‘fuse’; not in the case of Ryan Thomas though.

All You Knee Is Love. Let's hope Ryan returns in full swing!!!

I have no records of the whereabouts of David Browne.

Stop Press

PEC Zwolle’s home ground has seen yet another name change. From the Gemeentelijk Sportpark aka Ceintuurbaan aka Oosterenk Stadion aka Ijsseldelta to now aka Mac3Park.

PEC has been a professional football club since 23 February 1955 and alternately played at the ‘ Vrolijkheid’and the ‘ Gemeentelijk Sportpark’. The latter become their permament home in 1970.

The’ Gemeentelijk Sportpark’, aka the ‘ Ceintuurbaan’ , due to its location, was a pretty dull affair, with a brick & wooden main stand running half the length of the pitch and shallow cinder terracing sweeping around three ends, open to the elements. The ground in its original basic shape can be seen top left in the picture.

PEC became PEC Zwolle in 1971 after having ‘absorbed’ local rivals Zwolsche Boys. The mid-seventies saw slight changes to the Gemeentelijk Sportpark with the erection over a covered terracing, running three quarters of the pictch opposite main stand, raising the capacity to 15,000.

In 1978 PEC Zwolle were promoted to the ‘ Eredivisie’ and enjoyed a relatively successful spell. By 1982, PEC Zwolle had amassed a debt of three million euro, resulting in a flirtation with bankruptcy. PEC Zwolle became PEC Zwolle '82 after real estate developer Marten Eibrink ensured power in 1982.

The club’s name change coincided with a drastic metamorphosis of the Gemeentelijk Sportpark with the erection of covered terracing on three sides of the ground and the building of a main stand. It became known as the Oosterenk Stadion, named after the new and adjacent business park, developed by Martin Eibrink.

By 1990 PEC Zwolle’82 were still plagued by the financial irregularities from the PEC Zwolle days. Eventually this led to the club's bankruptcy in March 1990 and the rise of FC Zwolle, the club severing previous ties of financial dire straits.

Subsequently, the Oosterenk Stadion, epitomising an unhappy era, was baptised FC Zwolle Stadion with a capacity reduced to a 6,800 all-seater.

FC Zwolle gained promotion to the top flight in 2012. It is time for a second reincarnation. FC Zwolle entered the ‘Eredivisie’ as PEC Zwolle and the FC Zwolle Stadion was branded the IJsseldelta Stadion, the river running through Zwolle , reflecting the city and the club’s catchment area.

This month, July 2016, the IJsseldelta Stadion made way for Mac3Park as part of a lucrative sponsoring deal. By coincidence, the Mac3Park welcomed its 10,000th season ticket holder for the 2016/17 campaign, setting a club’s record.

Work is under way to install permanent lower tiers in front of the elevated stands to secure a slight rise in capacity, nearing14,000.

Stop Press

PEC Zwolle are on the brink of securing the services of 18 year old Hachim Mastour, on loan from AC Milan. Having already had a loan spell at Spanish Malaga, Mastour is generally regarded as one of football’s greater talents.

Stop Press

Recently PEC Zwolle launched their 2016/17 home & away shirts. The club will alternately play in orange or green awau from home, depending on the opponent’s home colours.

At home PEC Zwolle will be clad in blue and white, abandoning the alternative and original green/white/black outfit for undisclosed reasons.

yeah. Of course. Good point. The Nix are a key tenant now that the 7's has gone downhill and NZ Cricket is taking more games to the smaller fields. Does the Wellington City Council actually put in dollars into the Nix or did they offer a concessional rent for the stadium? If neither there's no financial incentive to stay then and the numbers must stack up for a notional rent elsewhere. Anyway. At the risk of taking this thread in the wrong direction I'll find the thread in the Nix section.

According to WIkipedia though the metropolitan area of Zwolle is less than half that of Wellington though.

I wouldn't say that Westpac is a White Elephant, when it was built it absolutely fitted a need and is profitable. It's just times have changed in the last 15 or so years.

As far as the city council putting money into the nix, I don't think they do directly, but they definitely subsidise or offer free training facilities (to the Hurricanes and Lions as well). I've heard that the nix pay more rent than the canes do, I've also heard that's because Welnix was unable to sign a long term deal because of the license negotiations, could be bullshark though.

Thomas listed in the article below. Some good stuff said about him but sounds like he has new competition for the left midfield position after PEC Zwolle made two signings in that position - suggests he might play CAM where he played in NZ. Also has a very good highlights clip at the bottom - if he plays to his potential he shouldn't have any trouble making the starting line up. Hopefully the injury hasn't put him back too far.

Thomas played 67 mins as PEC start season with a bad 0-3 loss to Sparta Rotterdam at home.

Note ex Adelaide player Craig Goodwin was in Sparta lineup, and another Aussie Ken Dougall came off the bench.

If they're gonna be losing matches like that to teams like Sparta Rotterdam by such margins... it's gonna be a long season. Hopefully they can improve from here and hopefully this loss doesn't mean Thomas gets dropped.

By the way, coochiee great work with all these updates. Appreciated.

Thomas plays full 90 mins as Zwolle's horrible start to the season continues losing 0-1 away to Heerenveen.

That's played 4, lost 3, drawn 1, conceded 9, scored 1 to lie 2nd to bottom.

Good to see Adam is back playing regularly

Zwolle draw 1-1 at home with fellow strugglers Utrecht.

Thomas started and was credited with the assist for Zwolle's goal. He was subbed at 64 minutes, as home team conceded the equaliser late (91 mins)

Here's a video of his assist. 47:15 into the video. It's an unusual assist, he's on the ground and makes the pass, but an assist is an assist. Shame they conceded late.

read this script before - Reid, Smith, Thomas all injured when AWs have an upcoming fixture. I think Reid and Thomas are just so suspectible to injury that, even if they want to, we will be lucky to have them even half the time.

Fingers crossed for Ryan and Winston that they are just niggles.

They've lost a couple of good players to other clubs for this season. Notably:

Thomas Lam > Nottingham Forrest

Trent Sainsbury (When he wasn't injured) >  Jiangsu

Bart van Hintum > Gaziantepspor. Experienced defensive mainstay for past 4-5 seasons.

Lars Veldwijk > was a loan player from Nottingham Forrest. Now at KV Kortijk in Belgium. Scored 14 goals last season.

All that seems to have come in the other way are young, inexperienced players sent out on loan from clubs like Feyenoord, Ajax and AC Milan. And that's why PEC will struggle this season. Just seem to be lacking that bit of quality that's kept them up towards the top of the Eredivisie for the past couple of seasons.

Thomas has at least made an appearance in all league games this season, a few niggles here and there. But it's just good to see he is back playing after missing the majority of last years campaign.

It is pretty hard to justify giving him 90 minutes week in, week out at this stage of the season too. Take into account PEC Zwolle have the joint worst attack (3 goals scored) and worst defence (17 goals against) in their seven league games so far this season...

On the bright side, he's picked up a couple of assists, so at least that's something to write home about.

Hoping the team kick into gear soon, it would be a real shame to see them fighting a relegation battle, given what they've accomplished in the past couple of seasons.

Playing Ajax away in front of their 50,000 fans is the hardest game in Dutch football. Still Zwolle now lie bottom of Eredivisie table (GD of -14) after 7 games, and look like being in for a dogfight season to stay up.

Thomas was credited with the assist for Zwolle's early goal (4 mins) - but after that it was all down hill. He was subbed at half time.

At least he was starting, so that's good news for AWs - and may enjoy getting away from Holland for awhile for a few matches in North America! His last game for NZ, was November last year v Oman.

Lars Veldwijk was a gun last season he is eligible for South Africa which is interesting. Is it a Grand parent or parent who needs to be born in the country in question? Ryan had the assist for the goal as well second of the season. Interesting to see what Hudson does with his formations when he gets a full strength squad. Wood up front obviously maybe a 4-2-3-1 if thomas and barba down the wings and rojas att SS. I like the idea off wee mac as a deep lying play maker he seems to create as many goals regardless of how advanced he sets up

After a tough start to the season, PEC Zwolle get their first win at home 2–1 against ADO Den Haag. Unfortunately, however, Ryan Thomas took no part as he seems to have a thigh muscle strain and didn't play the game. Left winger Youness Mokhtar scored both goals for Zwolle.
