How good is it going to be to see him play against Sweden!

Tempting fate of course, but with hopefully Thomas & Singh, however sans Wood, AWs will have to walk the ball into the Swedish net.

A draw was also enough it seems. 🥳🍾

Now I hope he extends his contract for next season 🤞

Can't imagine he wouldn't. Chance to play in the top division again in a team and culture he knows, it's a win win.

Thomas got 81 mins (1-1) in a 1-1 draw
Good to see his mins slowly increasing as season has gone on.

Full game in a 4-0 win. I think that's his first 90 min stint since his return from long term injury.

Promoted Zwolle, 3 pts clear in first with 3 games left.

Zwolle lose 3-1 at PSV Jong. Thomas off at 74 mins (2-1).
No doubt got some ribbing post match from some of his old PSV 1st team, mates.

Zwolle equal on points with Heracles (both already confirmed as promoted) re the league title. Heracles go 1st with a+3 better GD. 2 rounds left.

Full game in a 3-1 win. Great to see him consistently capable now of 90 min shifts. At least at this level.

Edit - with Garbett's Breda losing 0-3 to Heracles, Zwolle (2nd) will go into the final round next week equal on points with Heracles (1st) but with a 4 goal inferior GD.

Zwolle travel to Helmond Sport (15th - nothing to play for)

https://us.soccerway.com/matches/2023/05/19/netherlands/eerste-divisie/stichting-helmond-sport/bvo-fc-zwolle/3799008/

Promoted Zwolle (2nd) go into the final round equal on points with Heracles (1st) but with a 4 goal inferior GD.
Heracles host Ajax II (13th), so Heracles looking likely league winners.

FYI - Feyenoord are already Eredivisie champs with 2 games left. Ajax currently down in 3rd. PSV 2nd.

Thomas with 71 mins (2-2) in a 3-2 win. His replacement with the 95th min winner.

All in vain though as Heracles with a comfortable 2-0 win over PSV II, win the league on GD with a +5 goal difference. Both promoted teams tied on 85 pts.

Lets hope Thomas now suits up for the AWs in June, for the first time since 2019!!

Just been announced on socials, Ryan Thomas signs a new deal for PEC Zwolle for next season's Eredivisie campaign.

Excellent news. And by the sounds of it he's got the language picked up too.

Now to hoping that he's selected for our next set of friendlies! 🙏

Pre-season fixture for PEC Zwolle against Serie B side Venezia this morning.

I'm not sure what to make of it, but Ryan Thomas was subbed off after just half an hour...

No indication of a collision or of him picking up an injury, but of course with his track record it's almost like walking on eggshells every time he steps out on the pitch.

The Eredivisie still a couple weeks away - Zwolle at home to Sparta Rotterdam to kick things off. Hopefully they're just managing workloads and getting minutes in the legs. 🤞

Is Ryan injured or just not at the level required. It seemed like he was a regular last year and would be so again this year.

No Thomas. Had a good search and can't find any news on an injury.
Made the bench for a match 20th August against Twente, but that's been it this season to date.

I'm sure there must be times when he considers giving the game up.

Edit - game a 1-1 draw

Still no Thomas, as Zwolle lose 0-3. Socceroo captain Matt Ryan in goal for AZ.

From Flying Kiwis. This guy just can't get a trick.

Still waiting for Ryan Thomas to reappear in the Eredivisie with PEC Zwolle. He was playing in preseason but got injured before the first game and then apparently picked up a lung infection that delayed his recovery. For the most recent game, he was listed as absent due to a lack of match fitness so he’s on the trail. Shan’t be long now. Zwolle have 7 points from 7 games without him. Lower mid-table. Perfectly fine for a freshly promoted team.

Good news. Thomas on the pine.
His 2nd bench apperance of the season - last one being 20th August (no mins).

Even better news he comes on at 86 mins (4-2) in a 4-2 win.

Seems we have been here countless times, but hopefully he can remain injury free and come into AWs contention. Now 4 years since he last played for the National team

I don’t know if I dreamed it or read it somewhere but was under the impression he wasn’t interested in playing for the national team.

Nothing of the sort has been said but it can almost be inferred at this point. Bazeley at one point in the last year said that he was in touch with him and he would like to be able to play for NZ again but I don't think he prioritises it highly given he struggles to stay fit and playing at club level and he has a young family.

I would be willing to bet the house (if I owned one) that he will not be in the November squad. Maybe if he can stay fit between now and the next window the All Whites plays in Europe, it may be a possibility, but the chances are so remote of that happening that we all might as well forget it.

yeah, I'd say he's probably indicated that he'd like to play for the national team but given his injuries over the years he also needs to remain fiocussed on his club committments to keep himself employable.

Queenslander 3x a year.

I can see him not being involved for the rest of this year and 2024, considering much of next years focus will be on the Olympics and early stages of OFC Qualifying.  Would be a waste of his time travelling half way across the world when his priority will be to stay in shape for the next 1-3 years. Hopefully come 2025/26 when we’re in the late stages of Qualifiers, he’s confident to travel and play for the AWs.
But with our midfield looking fairly stacked and on an upward trajectory (Garbett, Singh, Bell, Stamenic, Dias), it might be tough for him to make that Final Cut come 2026.
