Forward Justin Braun missed the Clasico with a calf strain, defender Michael Umana is unlikely to see action Saturday because of a knee sprain, and holding midfielder Simon Elliott strained a quad in a midweek reserve match.

Any news on Elliott's future: is he going to retire or try to re sign with chivas??

I'd like to see him once more with the Phoenix. I know he had his chances last time but with the right midfielders he could be immense!

Our midfield is old enough and defensive minded already, let alone making it worse.

si's contract has expired and he wasn't puicked up by any other MLS franchise in the first redraft so he is now a free agent.

there are still several MLS draft rounds to run and he can be picked up by any franchise at any time.

Did he decide to retire or there is still the rumour of a trial with the Galaxy?

Herbert has had Keat on his radar for some time and wants to see him first-hand. He comes in for veteran midfielder Simon Elliott who is missing due to a hernia complaint but unlikely to have been selected anyway.

Hopefully it means a good link for young New Zealanders to the MLS if he is a head scout.

Do we officially know if Si has retired yet? NZ Football press releases keep implying he's still available, odd given the above link.

He has definitely retired from playing because if you look at the official Chivas USA website under "Coaching Staff" he's listed as "Technical Director/ Head Scout."

He's no longer listed on the playing roster on this site:

http://www.cdchivasusa.com/club/staff

A balls-up by NZ Football- they should follow this thread themselves- which proves once again that Yellow Fever forums are often more accurate than NZ Football media releases !!!

Was this after accepting stated role at Chivas? Is he really injured then? Cause if he isn't the AWs could have really done with him for the Nations Cup to give the midfield some spine.

He's on the DL list at Chivas with a groin injury.  Is trying to get fit and hasn't retired yet.

Still pretty sure he is no longer contracted as a player at Chivas:

- this announcement on Chivas website of squad for this season 11/03/12 has Simon out (contract expired and not renewed):

- in fact the club announced way back in Nov. 2011 that it wasn't renewing his contract and he entered the MLS Re-entry Draft but was not picked up by anyone:

http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2011/11/30/goat-notes-chivas-usa-decline-jazics-contract-option

CARSON, Calif. – Chivas USA declined the contract options for six players on Wednesday, making them available for the MLS Re-Entry Draft on Dec. 5 and Dec. 12.

Highlighting the list is left back Ante Jazic, who enjoyed the finest season of his six-year MLS career. Jazic made 28 appearances for the Goats in 2011 and led the club with seven assists. The choice to decline Jazic's option is a monetary decision, and Chivas will likely try to bring the defender back at a reduced salary.

The Rojibancos also declined options on Mariano Trujillo, Chukwudi Chijindu, Zach Thornton and Andy Boyens, while opting not to renew Simon Elliott’s contract. Of the five, only Elliott — a veteran of MLS, the English Premier League and New Zealand's 2010 World Cup run — saw significant time last season, and none seem likely to return to the fold.

The club can negotiate new agreements with players until Dec. 2. Players have until then to opt out of the Re-Entry Process.

- Elliott is not listed as a player in the current roster of 28 players on the club website (which includes injured players):

http://www.cdchivasusa.com/players

- nor is he listed any more as a player on the official MLS register:

http://www.mlssoccer.com/players/E

-nor is he listed on Chivas' "inactive" roster:

http://www.mlssoccer.com/players?field_player_club_nid=1&tid_2=198&title=

Also no longer registered as a Chivas player on the MLS Players Union site:

I fail to see how someone could be Technical Director and Head Scout and still have time to train and play anyway...

Potentially playing MLS Reserve footy? Seems strange - would make sense for him to retire from intenationals at least - he won't be around for 2014.

Major League Soccer's Chivas USA fired coach Robin Fraser on Friday and also cut ties with assistant coach Greg Vanney, technical director and head scout Simon Elliott of New Zealand and trainer Brian Lee.

obviously there are changes taking place at the club. I think it's something around getting more gringos in and supporting the parent club.

Is he still playing or not?  He clearly seems to be a scout now (well unemployed by the sounds).

Is Elliot still involved in the game these days? Anyone know?

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

In battle of Kiwi coaches in USL, Elliott's Sacramento beat Cameron Knowles Portland II by 1-0.

Sacramento looking good for USL playoffs being 3rd (behind Musa's Phoenix) in Western Conference.

Timbers II are 5th.

Top 8 teams make playoffs.

Sacramento finish with a 1-0 win over Las Vegas, improving to 2nd on Western Conference table and a likely home QF next week verus Saint Louis.

Sacramento were 8th in Conference last season, so pretty handy improvement in Elliott's first season in charge.

In a playoff upset, Elliott’s Sacramento (2nd in Western Conference), lose 1-2 to Swope Park Rangers (7th in the West).

Reckon he could still do a good job as DM... Rudan get on the blower and bring him in! :)

Elliott's Sacramento won their USL Western Conference knockout QF away to Reno 1868, by 3-1.

Good effort since Reno finished 2nd in regular season, and Sacramento only 7th.

Wonder if he'll ever be called in by Hay, to help out with the AWs. I guess Rory has that ex AW 'team mascot' role covered.

Still must be due to have a game Stateside, against one of the CONCACAF sides. Been a few years. For awhile there is was a pretty regular thing.
