Boxall will definately make a name for himself in the game, lets hope Pelter can secure another contract in England, and hope that Scott can get some trials overseas too... Hogg also has the potential @ LB...

I think you'll find the lower scottish clubs are strapped for cash, hence why going for these players from 'lower class footballing countries' I wouldn't be surprised to see other players from Malta/Lativa/NZ/Thailand etc etc getting pick up like Old has..Young, experienced and cheap IMO.

ive got a song that wont take long, Adelaide are rubbish.. the second verse is same as the first.. ADELAIDE ARE RUBBISH

That's an interesting call.

I'm surprised that he's signed for Killie, and on such a long-term deal, but we'll no doubt see how he shapes up when he's playing against Celtic and Rangers.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Thats a good point, who cares if Killie is not that strong a team. Old is going to be defending against top class players from Celtic and Rangers etc.

Does anyone know when he gets back to Scotland, guess he will start in their reserve league?

Where are Pelter and Boxall playing at the moment?

If we build it, they will come...

Old is waiting on his passport/visa processing from Scottish consulate down under. I.e can't go back to Scotland until they return it back to him.

As you may not know the closest consulate is in Australia so bit of waiting time.

Why is it from the Scottish Consulate and not the British Consulate???  Surely the fact that he is living in Scotland should not matter, as it is ruled from London... cue angry Scots etc.

The British High Commission is in Wellington near the Beehive. There is no such thing as a Scottish Consulate. He is in Palmerston North awaiting his work visa and is expected to take a full part in pre-season but manager Jim Jefferies said there was an outside chance he may yet play before the end of the season.

It seems that signing on for a well known European club is all one needs to do to play for the AW's aye.  When did he last play a competitive match?

He's been training with Killmarnock quite a bit, well before his signing was made official. That may factor into his inclusion.

well, i at least thought Old was v good at the Olympics - and that may also have influenced the decision to include him.

Pre-season friendly last night. Kilmarnock 2 Partick Thistle 3 (GET IN THERE!!!!). Old started but was subbed after 57 minutes.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Killie fans very pleased with him to date - "stand out", "will be our no one CB", etc etc etc

Let's hope he keeps it up.

they were winning when he went off. Both centre backs got subbed early in the second half to give others a run.

if you check out their forum, the fans have been generally pleased with him (particularly his performance against Partick Thistle) and the general view is that when he will be one of their two starting centre backs.

it would be great to see him make a good fist of it over there after his troubles with the Nix.

Kilmarnock just claimed Premiership scalp, beating Burnley 1-0 in pre-season match.

Old started and played 90 I think. From their fan forum ... "Old looks like a cracking player!"

Looking forward to Old putting some egg on some of the Nix supporters who bagged him.
Talked to him when last in Perth, came across as confident about his football and said he paid no attention to the bagging he was getting from some of the Nix supporters.
Hope he has a fantastic season.

Burnley will be whipping boys this season, they lost to Leeds as well, and we are in League 1

tbh though I recon Leeds will totally destroy League 1 based on preseason results against Newcastle, Blackburn (who managed to draw with us in the 90th minute) and Burnley

Yes but one player makes not a team and Beckford is more important to us, today for instance he scored twice sealing a win against Exeter.

And apparently he could be on the way out aswell. I personally like Leeds, but i do question how much depth they really have, especially if they also lose him.

Good start though.

Keep the thread to Old ay. Noone cares for Leeds rubbish.

Looks if the Nix would want him back after their 3 goals through the centrebacks yesterday.

No I am not one of 'them people' who dislikes Leeds. Couldn't care less.

The thread is about Steven Old of Kilmarnock who has been starting every game in preseason. At 23 he has years ahead to be a great player. Conisdering Nelson didn't get to England until he was 28/29 (correct me if I am wrong) this is a big step for a New Zealand centreback and one for the future. Still early days though (as many Nix fans will be very quick to point out).

i know this thread is about Old, but just talking centre backs. Surely sigmund could fit into quite a high level here in the uk if given the chance? i mean herbert rates him over ever other centre back we got except Nelsen. so that means sigmund could make some bucks in spl or championship rather than phoenix, and also get some better experience and exposure?

If you  remember, both him and Smeltz were chased after the Wales game.  The only doubt I have is Herbert's player assessment.  If you remember, at the start of last season he told Middlesbourgh to sign Lochead and then look how he turned out last season.

TBH I would like to see people like Bertos and Seamonster over here playing Scottish Prem or English Championship footie, it would be good for NZ.

Sometimes I question how good SPL is compared to English Championship or A-league. Outside Celtics and Rangers, they aren't much to harp on about. I feel that A-league is better all round competition than SPL and is closer to English Championship which is about just about par with MLS.

Watching all four each week I would say

1. Championship
2. SPL
3. MLS
4. A-League

Not much difference really between the bottom three.

I don't watch much but IMO I would agree wit h the above. Obviously the top 2 SPL teams are standout but on average i think the Championship would be stronger. So its great we got two strikers in there with Rory and Chris W.

The thing about Old in the SPL is, at least he is not in the top two teams...so he has to defend against them. great experience for him.

Well I suppose four games against Celtic and Rangers a season to lift up himself up that extra notch and then defencing against the others can't hurt. Not quite the same as against Championship sides. That wpuld be more higher level of consistency required.
