Fantastic news to wake up to.  He's buried that.

Quality strike. Had he done that a month and a half ago he'd be playing EPL now

Great stuff Tommy - obviously didn't want to be upstaged by Winston

Was deflected to be fair but not a bad effort for a CB

Saw this wonderful goal last night (Monday 9) on Sky Sport's broadcast of the "Football League Highlights Show."
YES- GREAT NEWS FOR KIWI FANS- SKY'S SHOWING THE HALF-HOUR WEEKLY UK SHOW OF (MOSTLY) CHAMPIONSHIP HIGHLIGHTS (PLUS ONE LEAGUE ONE AND ONE LEAGUE TWO GAME)

WHEN?  EVERY MONDAY NIGHT (WAS ON SKY SPORT 2 AT 7PM LAST NIGHT)
BUT CATCH THE FIRST BROADCAST, AS LOOKS LIKE IT'S NOT REPEATED AT ALL

PLUS THOUGH THE ACTUAL NAME OF THE SHOW IS "THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE HIGHLIGHTS SHOW" IT'S NOT LISTED AS THAT ON SKY'S ONSCREEN ELECTRONIC PROGRAM GUIDE (THINK IT WAS BILLED AS "ENGLISH FOOTBALL HIGHLIGHTS" OR SOME SUCH...)
NOT LISTED IN THE SKYWATCH MAG EITHER.

A shame we didn't have this last season with Rory and Chris Wood also in the Championship.
Highlights of the games are very brief but it's still great to see -especially if you're an internet cheapscate like me without broadband.

Also features brief interviews with managers- Roy Kean complained he is short of players already due to injury with the season just commencing and has to rely on a lot of youngsters, so he hopes to sign a few new players in the next few weeks.
He's complaining like that after his side just won 3-1 away!!!
Lack of depth at the Tractor Boys is good for Tommy's chances of first team footie though.

ipswich website reporting Smith has been called up for Honduras and Paraguay matches, so presumably that indicates he's coming. says he will be doubtful for the match v conventry on the 16th bc only expected back in uk on 15th. I would have thought he could get back to the UK (given the direction the world spins) by the 14th reasonably comfortably but prob will need to take a break anyway.

Ipswich have signed Celtic defender Darren O'Dea on loan. Bad news for Tommy.

If Ipswich don't get promoted, I wonder if any Prem League clubs will be interested. Young centre back getting regular 90 min action in the Championship would surely have EPL sides keeping an eye on him?

I'm just saying. I mean I hope they do get promoted. And they are up there at the moment. I like all clubs with Kiwis in them. Certainly wasn't having a dig or anything, but just wondering... on the off chance...

I've spent too many years following them to give up hope three weeks in (or to hold out too much hope three weeks in).

Incidentally, dive on Facebook chat for a moment for me.  Want a quick word with you about something.

From another report:

"Town eventually deserved the win, although they had to rely on one or two superb saves from Brian Murphy. Skipper David Norris was again the pick of the outfield players, while Smith and McAuley were their usual solid selves at the back."

Think that Tommy being at Ipswich and getting consistent game time is probably better for his development than being on the bench at a struggling EPL club like Winston.

? Reid's been there for 2 matches and played both games, starting one. Sounds like consistent game time for me so far.

Come on now News, you know very well we'll look reasonable all season, drop a couple at the end to move out of auto promotion, then choke in the playoffs. Its happened before and will happen again.

Good raps on Tommy....if he has a top season for Ipswich you wonder if he might get picked up by a Premier league side.....assuming Ipswich don't get promoted. He is going to have a big future.

Sounds like hes having a very good start to the season and hopefully Ipswich and Tommy continue to play well. They have a trip to Portsmouth this weekend I believe? Or is that next weekend?

Damien Delaney, who started over Tommy last season, was on the bench which means that Tommy is now above him in the pecking order. Good news.

not quite manu, Delaney just getting back from injury and wont be 100% yet. If he's still there in a couple of weeks i'll agree with ya.

Still, hard to make changes to a backline which is clearly working as well as the Ipswich one is at the moment.

at this rate tommy could potentially pass Reid going in the opposite direction in terms of promotion/relegation come the end of the season.
good to see the lad seeing plenty of match time at any rate

Just saw the Football League highlights package on SS Highlights, great to see Tommy walking out in the starting eleven. Another clean sheet for Ipswich and Tommy getting so much game time bodes well for the rest of the season.
