Tony Lochhead (Unattached FC)

Must have impressed during that friendly.

Could be nice fit for a few years. Mess of a team, but they have a new coach, Lochhead knows MLS, and he will be able to provide much needed veteran leadership.

What does it mean, signed "via discovery"? Unattached player/free transfer?

Well Chivas' nickname is 'the Goats'

@ Global game

It means they asked the MLS to sign him and assign him to them. http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/1110/major-league-soccer/2013/02/26/3780299/avi-creditor-a-look-inside-the-mls-discovery-process

Thanks RR.
This from that article: "Teams can only sign six discovery players per season, but the mechanism only comes into play if more than one team has expressed official interest in signing the player."

In the MLS environment he's probably quite a good pick-up for them. Experienced but cheap.

If this is the case, who else was keen on him?

Not sure you can find out, Chivas got him because they asked for him first. Maybe Nelly was after a cheap squadie?

May have been Simon Elliott's influence at LA Galaxy who would be a mate of Lochy's and is on the coaching staff at LA Galaxy - Simon's a youth team coach there: http://www.southbayforce.com/coach/simon-elliott
Will be interesting to see how Lochhead goes at Chivas and although he's past his used-by-date for the All Whites at least if they're struggling to find a left-back he can provide back-up...

While no Lochhead fan, who knows, maybe a change of environment and having to fight to start might be what Tony needs to recapture his form of old.

Goodw on this guy. He has had a lot of people moaning about his ability with the Phoenix and the All whites (sometimes with good reason). He has however picked himself off the canvass and has secured a gig in a league which is superior to ours. At his age that is a good effort

Temporarily owned by MLS until they find new owners by the end of the year and will change it's name after this season, severing all ties with Chivas Guadalajara.

Will also build their own stadium, moving from the Stub Hub (formerly Home Depot) stadium they have shared since inception with LA Galaxy.

TOP EXPLANATION FROM DON'TASKME.COM AND CONSPIRACY.COM:

Maybe since Chivas USA until this week have been a Mexican-owned club, they are Trotskyites and it's in honour of Russian revolutionary Leon Trotsky who settled in Mexico and "got an ice pick that made his ears burn" (the Stranglers, "No More Heroes") in Mexico in 1940 courtesy of Uncle Joe Stalin's henchman. Or, on the other hand, if parent club Chivas Guadalajara are Stalinists, it's to remind people of the Russian party line emanating from Uncle Joe.

Either that or Chivas are hoping a strip that looks Russian will attract bored Russian billionaires to invest in their club. The name "Chivas" after all could be the Mexican word for "Chelsea". Chelski and Chivaski are also similar...

Lochhead had an ok game. Chivas USA went down to 10 men early in the game, but was effective on the counter against lethargic Vancouver Whitecaps and really should have had more than 1 goal. Vancouver scored from Kekuta Manneh who tormented Chivas USA right back with his dribbling, but Lochhead was not at fault.

Still don't think he's MLS starter quality, but then again, entire Chivas USA team has been playing well
