... especially now that hogg has disappeared off the radar

i always felt lochhead was harshly judged.  he had some bad games, but the nix were awful all over the park at the time.  i think even merrick would now admit that bringing caira in to replace him was a bad idea

You are still kidding.

I know you are no fan leggy but it seems that now he's out of Ricki's shadow his pre Middlesbrough form MAY be returning.

As I've said before I would be happy to include him in a squad of 23 for the AWs if players such as Reid, Smith etc rule themselves, thus providing experience and leadership and maybe a cool head.

Storm is right sided correct?  He should have that spot nailed for ages but there is still plenty of competition on the left, currently being filled by players who are young, inexperienced and still not playing 1st XI football for their clubs or on loan, instead propping up reserve/youth sides.

Tony is not our future but I'm not sure the AWs can afford to throw him on the scrap heap just yet.

Just remember the game in Mexico. I just don't get all the praise he gets, but then everyone is entitled to their opinion.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

I think a lot of the people who defend him don't think he is this great star, but think he gets more criticism then he deserves a lot, and it always seems to be his fault.  He does have bad games, but so do most players, most of the team was poor against mexico, especially our defense.  look at the first game where most if not all the goals were a defensive mistake.

he was also without a club then? if i recall correctly. now he is playing regually. but if he is doing okay at an arguabally better standard than the A-League he must be doing somethign right.

Lochhead has been a great servant for the All Whites but with an eye to Russia, we probably should be blooding other players in the position. Not gonna hate on him for still being selected tho.

I agree, but surely nobody expects him to make Russia-- he will be 36.

I was meaning picking him in the short term (1-2 yrs), whilst grooming the replacement.

At the end of the day, who is a better option right now at left back.  Tuiloma arguably, but I would like to see him tried in the midfield where he seems to be playing his club football.  I really can't think of anyone else.  He is clearly not the long term option, and if we decide to blood someone else in the position I am OK with it, but at this moment what other left back is playing anywhere near his level?

I know where you are coming from but if I was the coach for Russia I would be getting in now and give the players a few years. Not much point (even if he was playing out of his skin) putting TL in there for 2 years and then trying to blood a new player .

No point picking players who aren't ready.  If today Lochhead is the best player in his position then he should be picked today.

By the end of his time at Phoenix he was an awful player, maybe a move was the thing he needed.  But let's not be revisionist - he had done his time at our club.

Plenty of older players at this world cup. No reason IF he is still one of our only fullbacks to be able to hold down a professional contract he shouldn't be in a squad. Hope the Kiwi Lahm will emerge, but if he doesn't...

Ahh Tony another proud member of The Grand Order of Scapegoated Players that we now think were quite good.

Maybe we played better with him, maybe. But lets face it we would REALLY be bagging him now if he stayed. Also wasn't he on a truckload of money?

I thought he was amazing, then went to Boro and was always a bit meh/ok after that. Also when he was crap wasn't that the time we had Leo playing in front of him on the left wing for that game??

All the players on the Chivas books are put on a supplementary draft back into the MLS....will be interesting to see if TL enters and succeeds or perhaps transfers to Asia somewhere?

Tony will be 33 in January so you'd think he has only another year or so as a pro anyway.

Seems unlikely he'll be wanted by another MLS franchise. Back to NZ to play ASB Premiership?

A new LA franchise will enter the MLS in 2017  - but too late for Tony.

Casino Royale, 2006

Bond is being tortured by Le Chiffre, who is whipping him in the balls with a piece of rope. Although in pain, Bond stays humorous, telling Le Chiffre that he has an itch.

After getting whipped, Bond says the itch is further to the left, laughing that:

"Now the whole world will know that you died scratching my balls."

Or he could just go play in Thailand, which pays much more than the ASB Prem yet is 'apparently' worse of a league ...

Almost worth signing him just to see these forums if we fielded Lia, Brockie and Lochhead all at once.
