Unless he stabbed some guy to death in a drug robbery, looks like nothing

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

Getting paid 134k by the MLS dispite not playing for anyone. Not a bad gig if you can get it.

I don't begrude him - he signed a contract.

He's probably looking to move on to life after football so if he's collecting the income as a security blanket while he looks to the next thing then that's a positive in my mind.

Wait can someone explain how he is getting paid nearly 150k for not playing? No wonder so many all whites chose to play for unattached fc!

The MLS contract the players and the clubs are allocated the players basically. So he has a contract with the MLS but no clubs want him, so they still have to pay him. There are 4 players getting paid without having clubs.

compare that to the A league where dozens of players are playing for clubs but not getting paid. I know which id prefer.

How do I get one of these MLS contracts? I can confirm that no MLS team would want me as a player either

A factor here of course is that the club he was signed to no longer exist, Chivas USA not being given a license extension by MLS.

Different to the situation in say Europe where clubs usually only go out of existence due to bankruptcy and it's often not possible for contracted players to get paid.

As you say, in MLS the league takes full responsibility if a player has time left on his contract and will continue to pay him even if his club no longer exists, and as in Lochhead's case, no other club wants him on its roster..

I don't know how the MLS works and the links to the leagues beneath it where a few Kiwis play but you would think they would farm him out to a club in these leagues (assuming of course that club would pick up a portion of his salary)

They did all this. When Chivas folded they put all the Chivas contracted players into a draft. Lochhead wasn't picked up.

His contract is now being honoured by MLS (I believe).

I think it was being implied that he should have dropped down to the next tier of US footie where the likes of Minnesota etc play.
