Or you could just go to a movie instead of the game!
Tyler Boyd - USA (Nashville SC | USA)
a goal to Boyd as Vitoria II win 4-2.
Me thinks as satisfactory debut season in Portugal for Boyd, esp as he managed to play few games for 1st team.
Agreed.
Next year he will really be looking to kick on.
good on him, doing well if He's getting first team time In that league
Yep, obviously I haven't seen any of the games but going by the reports it's been a pretty decent first season - certainly better than the first couple of season Marco had overseas.
a little confused. So is he playing for the top team or not? I know he had an appearance a while back but thought since then he hasn't been back there. how many games for the top team did he end up playing?
2 for the first team according to wikipedia, 35 for the second team with 3 goals
Yipe as mentioned he's only played a few (2 games in January) for the 1st team. That included making his top team debut vs Porto!
Hard to know for sure how he is progressing, but based on just making a debut for the 1st team in Portuguese top flight - I'd say a sound first season.
If he plays in PNG, be interesting to see if he looks a more mature player etc.
Tyler Boyd actually scored twice in the last game. Initially his second was reported as an OG but has since been credited to him:

GOALS! @Tyler__Boyd played the full game & scored twice #TBoy https://t.co/GYrsf4SoqW
well done TB
Boyd's Portuguese season is over. Vitoria II won 3-1 in their last game verus Porto II. Boyd played full 90 mins.
Vitoria II finished 13th out of 24 teams in Portugal's 2nd tier.
In my view Boyd is unluckiest non-selection for OFC. Maybe with Tuiloma & Rory the christian quota is full.
Is Boyd really a Christian? I don't believe such people would go and watch 50 shades of grey
He thanked dog in an interview once.
scored in a 2-1 loss for the reserves in the second division. Big season for him after getting a first team debut last year. I would like to see him get a AW call up for the Mexico friendly to see how he is progressing but somehow doubt Hudson will. He'd sooner pick Rogerson
Mr Hudson works in mysterious ways
A decent enough player to be overlooked is baffeling, Fallon in American out!.
73 mins starting for Vitoria II, as they drew 1-1 (2nd game of the season) with Desportivo Aves. Be interesting to see if he can get a bit more first team action this season
scored again overnight for the reserves. Hard to tell what position he is playing but great for Bieber that he is scoring goals. Keep that up and Hudson has to pick him for the US Tour.
Scored the winner for the reserves overnight!

GOAL! @Tyler__Boyd ⚽️90'#TBoyhttps://t.co/UF7XylIfWr
#TBoy seems like a missed social media opportunity
He only got 5 goals last season and, after a few games, is almost a goal a game.
Given Rojas and Barba are more wingers than not-strikers and Watson is a Wood type player I honestly think Hudson should look at Bieber for the US tour- even if he just gives him a couple of goes off the bench.
He'll be able to see the others much more easily in the HAL.
One thing that stands out in his stats is how many minutes he played last year. Even if only at reserves with the kids it's still more minutes than the majority of our pro players.
3 goals in 4 games for tyler
I always said this guy was decent. So the reserves for this club play in the second Portuguese division?
Absolutely baffling why he isn't in the All whites mix. Seems keen to play in White also and think he would work well in our system (whatever that is)
Couldn't agree more - would be an automatic starter in my team
I think he deserves a squad shot at Mexico and USA. I'd be good to see just how he would be used under Hudson as either just a bench replacement or impact player.
I think he should start against his home nation too.
:-)
Not used properly here. A good enough player with questionable film tastes.
Boyd playing 90 minutes as Vitoria II were hammered at home by Portimonense 5-1 (division 2).
The Vitoria 1st team are currently sitting in 9th spot in the top division
Whilst Hudson's policy of playing some fringe Kiwi kids like Rogerson who only have a NZ passport, is noble (in hope that some international exposure will put them in the spotlight of overseas clubs) - full time pro Boyd should be preferred for the North American friendlies.
Just for playing at a higher level, being match hardened with the Portuguese season already 5 weeks old, and seeing if he has developed much in the last 12 mths being in Europe. All the NZ based youngsters are effectively out of season at the moment (discounting Northern/Central region football)

Ahead of Wood, Kosta, Thomas, Rojas?

Should be pushing Rojas on his current form for sure...which is great IMO

Def ahead of Rojas - have a front three of Wood, Boyd and Kosta, with Thomas roaming in behind them
Not sure I'm convinced that a couple of good games for a reserve side in the Portuguese second tier is enough to justify saying he should definitely be ahead of Rojas. Rojas has admittedly had a tough run for a while but last season he scored 3, assisted 3 in 29 games in the Swiss top flight, while Boyd scored 4 assisted 1 in 39 games in the Portuguese second tier. And Rojas is a former Johnny Warren medal winner with more experience than Boyd too. At the very least it would be a close call, but I think Rojas should still be ahead of Boyd in the pecking order.
I'm yet to see Rojas do anything of note in a white jersey - he's turning into a modern day Brockie. I'd agree that Boyd hasn't done anything either, but I'd go for him simply because he is performing at his club at the minute. (yes, cue millions of "but what about Rojas vs Korea/Myanmar/some other team we lost too.....)
If I were to go for Rojas, it would be in place of Kosta - another good club player who hasn't really done much in the AWs environment.
Luckily for NZF, I can barely pick my nose so the odds of me picking the AWs is pretty slim.......wouldn't have Moses Dyer though......
I agree that neither Rojas or Barba have set the world alight for the AWs, but I think that's largely because almost anyone playing in a winger/wide forward role for the AWs would struggle with the lack of decent supply and support from midfield and fullbacks, which leaves them isolated and unable to influence the game. Even against the OFC teams they're going to struggle because as small guys who like to run at defenders the bad pitches and lack of protection from refs does them no favours.
I seriously doubt that Boyd, who never looked anywhere near as good as those other two at A League level, would be any different at international level.

for sure, but should be giving him a hurry up at the least.
Is a bit more muscular than Marco and perhaps capable of being a bit more direct and central, and is a player on the way up.

Boyd did better than Kosta did at his age, or at least no worse, in a much worse team! He wasn't joining a front line of Leo, Ifill and Greenacre
Boyd has good pace and technical ability and is very similar to Kosta... but would surely be behind him in the pecking order.
Rojas needs minutes and success to warrant a starting spot in the AW's.
I think people are remembering Boyd through some seriously rose tinted glasses.
