I get the general feeling around here is that he isn't liked by some on this forum for whatever reasons. I was hoping he would be the next Nathan Burns for the nix as he showed so much potential especially in his last season he was on form and made some a-league defenders look silly for such a young guy. I remember the classy goal he scored against Adelaide that season. He's better off playing more minutes than bumming around in the weenix and a-league I hope he can get more first team action and step it up to another level. I would rather he can get into some consistent goal scoring form before joining the AWs as we have the positions covered but luckily for us thats someone else's decision.
Tyler Boyd - USA (Nashville SC | USA)
He scored twice in one game against Adelaide I think, then twice in his other 46 A League appearances. He was scoring goals for fun for a while in the ASBP but has never had a sustained run of scoring or creating goals at a level higher than that. He's still young and might get there one day but he's not some untapped mercurial talent who has been inexplicably cast aside by the Nix and AWs.
He was improving each season even though he wasn't scoring many goals until his last season. I wouldn't say the nix cast him aside either, he may have wanted more time at a higher level or more cash so good on him for leaving the nest finding a decent league to play in.

Stats only tell half the story there. He got stuck in the team far too early under Ricky when the word came down he needed to play the kids - he was not ready physically and was too young. Under Ernie he did not get a lot of game time and came off the bench mostly and clearly fell out with the manager, but he was still good enough to be signed in the Portuguese first division. He has good movement and good close control. I really do believe he can do something decent with his career.

I agree that he can do something decent with his career too - but I do think he's got a while to go before he surpasses Rojas, Thomas and Kosta in terms of what he can offer the AWs.
Definitely agree he is behind Rojas, Thomas and Kosta. Marco will rip the league up again no doubt. And fair point he did not score enough goals.

His last season with the 'Nix he averaged a goal every 31min - how about them stats.
Edit: also, to put in context we are talking about a player who spent more time as a teenager playing for a team that finished 10th and 9th and complaining about lack of production, the whole team was producing poorly.
The issue isn't is he better than Barba, Rojas etc - it's is he more worthy of a place in the AWs SQUAD than likes of Rogerson.
He plainly is, especially as he as effectively been out of sight in Portugal last 12 months - so need to find out if as developed at all etc.
Last season he was deemed good enough by his club to start against Porto in the Portuguese top flight - so they must see something, day to day.

It's quite nice to talk about who to leave out, rather than scraping around the dregs trying to work out who to put in......you wouldn't say that too many times in the past about All White wingers/forwards
Well I would love to see Rojas start one match and Boyd start the other rather than one of them starting both matches.
Boyd seems to be developing well I don't think he would be capable of the season Rojas had with Victory that got him to the Bundesliga just yet but maybe in the future would pick him 100% for the friendlies though even just of the bench
The season Rojas had which got him to the Bundesliga was one of the best A-league seasons by an indvidual ever. I doubt Boyd has that level in him (haven't seen him play for two years mind you). I would imagine the A-league is of a far higher standard than 2nd division football in Portugal.
Scored in the final 5 or so minutes for Guimaraes II as they beat the Segunda Liga cellar dwellers Olhanense 3-0.
4 goals in 7 games so far this term, compared to 5 in 39 last season, so he's upped his contribution for sure.
Hard to tell what position he's playing due to lack of detailed match reports - and my poor understanding of Portuguese. Hopefully he's knocking on the door of the first team, where he got a couple of appearances last season.
I found this on the Guimaraes website, no great detail or description of the match, but even a few beers deep on a Monday morning I'm pretty sure that's Boyd in the picture.

Olhanense 0 - 3 Vitoria Guimaraes II
That's Boyd.
There to look at Tyler obviously ...
Played full 90 mins as Vitoria II lost 1-2 at home to Sporting Covilha.
It's puzzling his continued omission from AWs. Cameron has hardly played any minutes this season for Blackpool (English 4th tier), but Boyd is pretty much a regular for Vitoria II (admittedly often off the bench) in the Portuguese 2nd Div - and scored 4 goals this season to boot.
Then Thomas pulls out and rather than select a like for like player as a replacement (eg Boyd) - AH selects Fenton!
Pretty sure Boyd hasn't been in a Vitoria first team squad this season to date - so don't know if he is that close to the Div I action. I'd just be keen to see him in a AWs shirt, re any visible improvement from his days at the Nix. If he has made himself unavailable for AWs to concentrate on his club football - why hasn't AH said as such?
Does AH just not rate the lower leagues in Europe, like Scandinavian or Portugal Div II?
Boyd has already played for AWs a few times, his last time in the squad being the 0-1 loss to Korea (March 2015) - so surely he can't be looking to try to switch to USA now? Realistically he's nowhere near good enough to ever crack their ranks anyway.
Boyd, the 21-year-old making regular appearances in the Portuguese second division LigaPro who continues to be alienated by Anthony Hudson, has played in every Vitória B match this season. He has scored 4 goals and assisted once this season and played 968 minutes so far. Unfortunately he has hit a bit of a goal drought having not scored or assisted since 18 September.
He played 90 minutes in a 1–3 home defeat against Fafe and 5 minutes in a 2–0 away defeat against Cova Piedade. On 29 October they won 2–0 at home against Famalicão when he played the full 90. On 6 November he played 76 minutes in an away 1-all draw to Vizela. Vitória B are currently 19th out of 22 in a division in which the bottom 4 are automatically relegated and 17th and 18th play a relegation playoff.
Their next match will be at home to Gil Vicente (12th) on Wednesday 23 November.
Boyd played full 90 mins as Vitoria II beat Sporting CP II 2-0.
Vitoria II currently lie in 14th place, just above the relegation zone.
This season 4 teams will be automatically relegated, and a further 2 teams go into relegation playoffs (team places 17-22).
Boyd is into 2nd season of his contract, and as yet this season has not made the 1st team match day squad. Be interesting to see where he is at by season's end.
Thought I heard that Boyd turned down an All Whites call up for the Nations Cup. Might explain why Hudson hasn't picked him since.
Boyd plays full 90 mins for Vitoria II, as they lose 0-2 away to Sporting Braga II
Vitoria sit 16th, one spot above the relegation spots.
The first team at Vitoria are having a great season to date sitting 4th in the Portuguese 1st division. Only the big 3 of Benfica, Sporting CP & Porto are above them. Would probably explain why Boyd hasn't made 1st team matchday squad once this season.
Aiming to see Vitoria v Porto on February 12, hoping Boyd is around the first team by then.
Scored in latest match a 2-1 win
Lost 3–2 and was substituted off in the 90th minute away to Benfica B. Didn't score and unlucky for Vitoria as they were leading 2–1 at half-time. Vitoria B are now 10th out of 22 with 27 points from 21 matches.
Next match is on 16 January at home to Santa Clara, who are currently in third position.
Tyler with a doule today as Vitoria win 5-0. Great stuff. With wins like that a few of them must be pushing hard for places in the first-team matchday squads.
Surely he is on hudson's mind
The Portuguese 2nd division is streets ahead of ASB Premiership obviously. Players in that league will go on to play in the first teams of Porto, Benfica and Sporting in big Champions League games. The fact that Boyd has started for the first team in a 1-0 victory over Iker Casilas' Porto team (last season) is hugely impressive.

True
In Europe the Portuguese 2nd Div is considered a good place to find recruits. The players are generally well trained technically and are often cheap to pick up. I know of several players have been picked up by leading French clubs recently and they generally have done very well in France. Portugal is heavily scouted. If Boyd keeps progressing he could well be picked up and move to a higher level. He does not necessarily have to crack the clubs first team...though that would help. His lack of first team games might just be because of heavy competition in the first team in the position he plays.
I agree with the above - I really hope that if he is picked up (and decides to move on to better things) he is smart about it and chooses a club where he has a genuine chance of succeeding. Somewhere like the Belgian first division would be ideal I believe. Or in the Netherlands, Denmark etc. No point doing a Marco and never playing a single game in Germany, France, England etc.
Vitoria II played on Thursday (lost 0-1 to top of the table Portimonese) with Boyd not in the match day squad which was unusual.
Maybe he was rested, as will be in the 1st team squad for tomorrow morning's Vitoria game vs Belenenses?
The 1st team have lost their last 2 games in the Primeira Liga, so maybe Boyd has forced his way in?
Of course he could just be carrying an injury or something so missed the game on Thursday.
To date Boyd has played 21 games for Vittoria II this season and scored 7 goals, in the 2nd division.

Tyler played 76 mins in the 3-1 win over Olhanense on Monday night 21 Feb.
Scored in a 2-0 win. His 8th goal of the season

Definitely worth another look - especially when you consider the amount of very young amateurs Hudson tried out in the past.
I get the feeling Boyd's train has passed (at least for now) though.

Better than SSP players, like Dyer and THW.
But different positions.
Also, I know there's been a bit of disagreement about this but I'm still not convinced that the quality of Portuguese second tier is that great.

You could be right. And also when you consider that ACFC's slow moving, low scoring striker Joae Moreira made an incredible 33 appearances for Portuguese Under 20 & U 21 teams between 2004 and 2006.
