Tim Payne hopeful of being offered a contract at Blackburn:

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=10764079

"Under-17 international Tim Payne is on the verge of signing to play at English Premier League club Blackburn Rovers.

Payne is just back from eight weeks of trials at the club and once he obtains a work visa he is hopeful of being offered a contract.

"I can't be contracted as a professional until I turn 18," said Payne, who was a member of the Waitakere United ASB National Youth League team last season. He was also in the Danny Hay-coached Sacred Heart team who won the Lotto National Secondary Schools title for the first time."

The article is from the 5th November so not sure if there's been any advance on things since..

Hmm.... In England you can sign a professional contract when you are 17

No English passport?       Good luck to him but a work visa highly unlikely I would say

Danny Hay taking the credit: "Ive seen him since he was 12 years old and watched him develop, Hay says.
Im so proud of the player he's become.

Huge call: I wouldn't bet against him getting game time for Blackburn before the end of the season, he (Hay) says.

It would be pretty awesome to see him get game time there though. Not many players from this part of the world get that opportunity, let alone at his age.

Just hope his manager isn't sacked between now and then (Musa/Bradford nightmare)

Have you watched Blackburn this season? I wouldn't bet against him getting game time either.

Three for me, and two for them.

I have and I'm thinking a young kiwi kid probably isn't the answer to their problems. His competition might be a bit sh*t though.

I also wouldn't bet against the manager being sacked soon.

I didn't think Hay took the credit, although he did help set up the trial if i remember correctly so good on Hay.

From what i have heard and seen of the kid there are pretty big raps on him. What type of contract has he been given, youth, professional??

Imagine having two strikers from NZ in the premiership in a years time potentially playing... there aren't enough tissues in the world for that sort of fantasy to come true.

... and Rojas to go over there and make it 3.

Nelson Suburbs and Nayland College (Nelson)
Born in Scotland but immigrated to NZ aged six.

Maybe Nelson's best football export since Ceri Evans (Oxford United, second tier English football for some years in the 80's and 90's)????

Cam Howieson started in the Burnley youth team that made the quarter finals of the FA youth cup in beating West Brom this morning. First time in over 30 years that Burnley have made the last eight, so well done. Howieson played 70 mins before being subbed in a 2-1 win. Good effort also in that all the other teams have formal "Academies" (I believe).

There's a really good bunch of kids at Turf Moor this year, the club has a strong youth focus through out from Manager down, so indications are that Cam's in a good environment.

Edit: I notice that Tim Payne came on the 74th Minute, a couple of days back, in Blackburn's win over Stoke in the FA Youth cup (also through to last 8).Turfmoore2012-02-09 20:24:02

Rovers & Burnley are on course for a semi final clash, we need to beat Newcastle and your lot need to beat Fulham.

Does anyone know if the Rangers financial crisis has affected Basalaj's hopes of a contract? Or anything about what's happening with his trial for that matter?

Was really impressed with him at the U17 World Cup.

Looked to be a really athletic player with some nice touches and attacking intent.

Was positionally pretty good at RB as well.

Any links for this? (i had heard he was looking at LA Galaxy)

Good to hear Howieson got a couple goals... did not rate him a the u17s at all... hopefuly training full time is turning his apparent potential into actual quality.
