good news for football, let's hope 'we' don't blow it
edit- if this makes even less sense than some of my other posts read the story on the front page

It's not that good. It's only a loan - and club players are gonna have to pay for it. Cheers for that. Makes the job of a club official really fun come the start of next year when they get beaten up when they tell teams to cough up more.

A big loan? How is that good news?
Restructured debt is still debt.

a minute is a longtime in football Smithy
o.k. -so a full bail out would have been better but we don't seem to live in such a country and Sparc paying the interest will help,
for me the good thing is that the board wil get its hand held for a while (hopefully by people who know what they are doing)

Be thankful that someone, namely Kiwibank decided to actually lend an organisation some money that cannot keep its own head above water........don't see anyone else offering handouts, loans or otherwise.

Too bloody right a NEW BOARD
What I can't understand is why G Bin Ladin S and a school teacher are still at the healm.
If these two self serving ratbags walk away from their f*ckups with a financial payout..........I'll kick the living daylights out of next doors cat.
Claudie now knows his days are numbered.

plus a $300K payout.
It is significant as it allows the board to work to reduce costs and build a new strategic plan without being crippled further by having to service existing debt.

I think it's bloody brilliant. An interest paid $1.5m loan is something any organisation would love to get their hands on.
Invested properly at say 7.5%, the $1.5m would earn $112500 minus 30% tax = 80,000 per year. That's free money.
Alternatively the 1.5 m might be used to service existing debt. Which would be running at around 8%. So if the govt is prepared to pay the interest on this loan then they're essentially servicing the interest on all NZF's existing debt.
More likely the loan would be used to service a combinaiton of existing debt and running costs. And hopefully some set aside to repay capital on the initial loan. It's not going to turn NZF into a multinatinoal overnight, but it will go a long ways to ensuring the organisatino survives at at least its current capacity into the future.

Not quite govt owned - supported by NZ Post - which is govt owned - there is a degree of separation.

well looks like the bling are getting a $35 million stadium with a lot of state government support...
not bad for a country that we suppose to be rugby mad just cos they are one of the other places that actually plays the game...
Not that I'm suggesting SPARC could do a lot better, it was very nice thanks! but that in comparison a $1.5 million interest free loan, plus 300,00 as the whole deal for everybody does look rather parsimonious compared to whole hearted investment over the ditch.

$1.5 million is only there to bail us out, for the next 5 years.
That an even spread of $300,000 per year, which is roughly the amount of debt pa we have been getting for the last three years which has been eating away at any surplus that we may have had.
.
$80,000 free money pa on invested interest is still an very small cashflow revenue for a national body to make any serious dent on the football scene. It would be only be enough to pay an extra person's salary.
I am not convince yet. It only tells me that we will break-even for five years cashflow but nothing on the getting money to repay the loan nor getting additional revenue.
A loan is not a good thing, it is really an expense in form of cash received. We are fortunate that there is no interest but until I see greater revenue for lesser expense then the whole thing is really a time delayed disaster.
So there is a five years time limit on them in finding a profitable revenue. Well the clock is ticking, lets see how well NZF will be by March 2012, eh?
But good luck to them. I hope they find a good five year plan to make suitable revenue.
I'm predicting a 10% hike up on fees all round at first and then a better sell for a better football package some how.

Well that is because of their popularly. The more people interested in football, the more potential for revenue, the more sponsors will invest for returns on the ticket holders and advertising and the more people are happy the better the quality of life, the more government money will come our way to keep the people happy and stop them from going out and do petty crimes as the result of their idle time or getting depressed in their own sick, poor life. etc etc etc.
It's the flow on effect as we see over there. If we run it as a good entertainment marketing package that is similar to the Rugby package (lucky we are at the different season for the NZFC and A-league from the NPC or Super 12) we could do just as good.
We need to create an fun filled atmosphere. We need to hire other entertainment that is supplemental to the football matches to get that wow effect. Then the people will come. Of course you need to showcase (prefer TV) the fun or no one will turn up to the games. The bigger the fuss it makes the more the media will comment on.
I want to football to double up with singers, rock bands, dancers, cheerleaders, juggers etc (any entertainers who wants a quick cash injection) to attract non-football folks to realise that footballers are great entertainers as well so they would come back to another game. We have to hike the ticket price up to pay them off but it would be worth it.
I want my NZFC version of NRLs Tina Turner!!!

hmmmm........I don't know between the entertainment on the pitch and yellow fever what else do you need?
and when you say the bling is popular. Lets ask: are they hmmm 20 to 30 times more popular? because that is what the funding difference is.

Need to attract non-football folks to the ground as well to get them hooked.
Honestly having a hour mini concert before a match brings a different type of crowd in for the music and then exposure them for the football. The entertainers will get a handy pocket cash of the ticket sales so they shouldn't turn down an opportunity to expose their art. It would basically advertising their latest album. For the 15 minutes half time, we could have the bass band pumping out the old soccer tunes for the crowd to sing along with.
. . . . or face getting the Cheerleaders again like the Rugby.AllWhitebelievr2008-03-19 19:22:27
