Billy Harris is quite right and unless we improve our technical skills we are always going to struggle.

perhaps billy should quiot pointing out the obvious in opinion pieces and actually get out on the field and make some changes. He seems to be able to tell us what the problems are so he must have the answers, right?

But isnt that a rather lame and obvious statement to base an article on?

I think his articles are generally hit, miss or completely bonkers. They're generally worth a read for this reason though.

Actually when the incident happened my thoughts were that this might show how close the team were - getting protective of their young ones and not taking any cr@p from the opposition.

They just need to express it in a different way...

OPINION: The sensational signing of legend Alessandro del Piero by Sydney City for the upcoming A-League season is the biggest thing since, well, Melbourne Victory signed Harry Kewell last season.

He and Vince Lia can form a combative, energetic duo that, particularly through Muscat, can contribute eight or 10 goals.

Hope he is including assists in that figure. With only 4 goals between them in 200 odd games, I can't see them even getting close to his number.

I was thinking the exact thing. Lia will get zero and manny might get one from DM but unlikely.

He didnt really specify enough reason why we have to nail it this year. Sure we have a few aging heads but we also have a new youth system and have refreshed the squad with younger guys

Also thought this was interesting from Billy

"They have a strong, experienced core of seasoned pros. With the return of All White Glen Moss, they have, alongside Mark Paston, two of the league's best goalkeepers."

Pasty and Moss are good but I would rate Theo and Covic as better.

Theo not so much.  Covic yes, Ryan probably, Galekovic possibly.

So this whole thread started because Billy Harris was critical of how the team had done,  and he was slagged off.  He is now being slagged off because he is being positive about the team?

Another nonsensical article, after watching us beat Sydney he claims we should have gone and got a marquee signing..... I could quote many ridiculous lines, but the jist of it was that Del Piero was the best on the park is his mind and because of that we should tear apart our budget by signing someone like him.

Sunday Star Times haven't put it up, maybe they're sick of the many (justified) negative comments he always receives.

Basically saying that the Phoenix can't play total football (says it's the Ajax style), how Gareth Morgan shouldn't be demanding it, and basically that winning = entertainment. As usual there was some questionable stuff but overall I think he made some good points.

I thought he was surprisingly on the money as well...

When we've had our playoff runs it has felt like we've played good football, it's not like we were grinding out 1-0's at the caketin week in week out. It felt like real entertainment and that we could score at any moment. We were never playing tika taka but we were creating a buzz, especially with the likes of Daniel getting the crowd going to add to it. When fenton jumped the hoardings and ran to the fever zone it was the exact same feeling... shock horror that was earlier this very season...

Its the first time I have read a Billy Harris article and gone 'not bad that'.

He must have written it on the 21st cause it feels like the world is coming to an end when I agree with Billy.

I read his columns most weeks and I've yet to find any that have an ounce of common sense. Billy Harris floats up stuff like Miron does - full of shyte.

I didn't think it was that great. Took the whole 'total football' quote way too literally and made a meal of it to fulfill his word count. Also using Wimbledon as an example of ugly football being a failure is absurd. "Finished only as high as 6th and relegated after just 13 seasons in the top flight". Hell, many of the larger clubs would settle for something as solid as that, let alone some tinpot little bottom feeder with a ground capacity of about 7000.

I stopped reading when the second word wasn't capitilised, despite it being the start of a sentence.
