Bit harsh on Hearfield.  He's done well at right back.

Yeah Hearfield has done well. He just couldnt adjust at all to doing the same thing on the left. Seemed turned inside out.

Yeah, a little harsh. He is a bit loose in defence and doesn't read the game as well as a seasoned defender would but his pace does get him out of trouble.

As someone who hasn't played defense before, he has done very well, and shows a lot of potential in that position. On the left he was completely at sea. It was just asking to much of him, and Ricki acknowledged his mistake at half time by changing things around (the sign of a good manager IMO)

Here is an extract from Jim Kayes blog on the TV3 website.

�IN SOCCER-MAD Wellington for the week of the test it was intriguing to talk to football followers about the All Whites and their coach, Ricki Herbert. Those supposedly in the know reckoned skipper Ryan Nelsen did most of the coaching at the World Cup in South Africa and that he and Herbert rarely spoke to each other.   Pity we haven�t seen that reported any where by the cheer leaders who �report� on soccer in this country.�

Israel Dagg's try at Westpac Stadium gave the All Blacks a Tri-Nations bonus point and took them past France in the all-time test try-scoring stakes. They�ve now scored 1559 tries, one more than France who have played nearly 200 more tests than the All Blacks. New Zealand have also scored 11817 test points to France�s 11783.

Aside from the obvious hypocritical nature of this statement (Rugby reporting in NZ is completely controlled by the NZRFU - TV3 reporter Kevin Sinnott was axed because of negative rporting about the ABs on tour and the ABs are one of the most protected sports teams in the World) this is a rumour that I have also heard from decent sources (although not the rarely spoke to each other part, the coaching part).

certainly but if you're selling a different story to the players than the coach is that's quite different

Just coz he's a mate of LF1 doesn't mean he ain't a prat with pen in hand and the topic is football.  Everyone thought Ted Bundy was a "great guy" - and look how that turned out.

Come on LF1, you have to admit that blog post is a little bit snide.

The bit about Ryan and Ricki is semi-interesting, but the reference to "the cheerleaders who report on soccer (sic) in this country" is just playground level sh*t stirring (and presumably he's talking about you, amongst others?).

Just because Kayes has an almost pathological hatred of Graham Henry, doesn't mean journos covering other sports need to be as vindictive towards the national coach.

Ok, when I heard a rumour what I heard was exactly what was reported by Kayes.  Specifically it related to preparation for the AW match in Wgtn vs Bahrain.  This is from someone who is close to an AW and visited them during the tournament in Sth Africa.

Yeah, for a proper journo to go public with what is blatantly a rumour in a way which means he can throw his hands up and just say "I'm only repeating what I'm hearing is pretty weak".  Does he print rumours he hears about Rugby in his column?  I'm sure he hears plenty...

at both the 'Nix and with the All Whites...so even if by this chaps sh*te stirring Ricki allegedly had a safari holiday- must have been a good one if his team got through unbeaten and his club side finished 3rd?
