Folks,

Have a nosey at Friend of the fever Andrew Gourdie's new Blog on the TV3 website:

http://www.3news.co.nz/3Sport/Football/AndrewGourdiesBlog/tabid/840/Default.aspx

Might keep this thread up with other Phoenix related blogs as I know Fred Woodcock is looking at getting life back in to the DomPost Blog as well.

I'd be surprised if it happens this week.  Too many memories of a return at Hindmarsh.

Sorry gourdie, the answer is not "why not" but why?  You are making the call so you have to convince us why he should be dropped but you haven't made any sort of argument here at all.

You say you'd drop Moss after one bad performance, and his performance in a penalty shoot out.  Michael Theoklitos made one save out of 8, Moss made none (and wasn't required to make any in the match itself).  I don't see how that should be a factor in dropping him.

Moss has a very good record in match situations facing penalties, saving two last year.  Also, he was the oustanding player in our back 5 and one of the best shot stoppers in the league. that gives him the right to more leeway than one admittedly bad game.

Finally, you ignore the fact that one week ago he saved our bacon with two fantastic late saves.  Paston is a good goal keeper, and I know blogs need to be a bit controversial to get responses, but I think you need to back this one up in more than two paragraphs to justify dropping one of the first names on our team sheet.

I don't comment often - but - Riki needs to create passion for the shirt!  Too many players did not seem to have their heart in the match.  Notably Mr Kwasnik - we need more commitment this weekend.  Adelaide is going to be incredibly difficult.  A point or a win can turn the season around straight away.

As for Mr Moss - ok he had a poor match.  Has been solid.  Will play this weekend.  The key to the season is Durante, McKain and another striker to help Smeltz.  I am still very upset that we let Felipe go.  He is quality.  Lets resign him as he is ridiculously creative - in a better side he will do more going forward.

Comments anyone.....?

Apologies for the delay in my reply.

My point is the Phoenix have two very good goalkeepers on their roster and Id like to see a little more competition for the starting spot.

Im not going to argue with the fact Moss is a very good goalkeeper, and of course he can be forgiven for one bad performance. However theres more to goalkeeping than being a good shot stopper; another is having a strong physical presence which is an area where Paston has an advantage.

Like Ive said, Moss has had the position to himself from the start, and Pastons had very few chances to prove what he brings to the table.

Most other teams in the A-League would kill to have two goalkeepers of Moss and Pastons quality in their squad, and I think the Phoenix should use that to their advantage by having more competition for the starting berth.

I'm sorry, and yes I havent seen a heck of a lot of Paston, but what I have seen is that he is definately not as good as Moss, he's not too far away but not as good.

Moss is correctly as you said a better shot stopper, and with our seive like defense I think that is what we need mainly.

He will want to make amends for last week.

If Paston is going to get a game, I feel the best time for that will be when we travel to play the Glory in the coming weeks...let him prove it there first.

...And I may be biased but that's because...

MOSS IS OUR HERO!!

Don't be at all surprised to see Past-it get the nod for the Wellington Reserves ... er, All Whites' matches against New Caledonia.

last year that's exactly what happened, Paston was given the responsibility of AW 'keeper, and Mossy took the Nix spot by storm
You know we belong together...

I'm starting to see Gourdie's reasaoning, Mossy is looking out of sorts at the moment, wouldnt be surprised to see Paston in between the sticks against the Mariners...

Gourdie keep the focus on kiwi football, the web is saturated with Premier league blogs (even though I'm sure in many ways you have to satisfy your pay masters with content thats going to appear on the news)

Good work though, keep em coming!

It's a football blog, not a Phoenix blog.

I'll be writing about the Phoenix, and whatever other football is topical during the week.

I hope Mossy has a sleep! If our team is doing its job Moss wont see much action. Would love him to just have a clean sheet and all the action be at the other end.

Sorry Moss, but rather you weren't our best player

Actually your keeper should be your best player, he just shouldn't have to do as much as Moss has had to.

Andrew your dig at the fans and the thread on here is well of the mark in my opinion. I think we will be there whatever happens as most people will who read your blog. So to try and tell us what is at stake is a bit iffy in my opinion

Firstly, this blog's not aimed at members of Yellow Fever, it's aimed at the 3000-odd people who  have stopped heading along. Just because a link to the blog is posted on here, doesn't mean it's directed at members.

Having said that, there has been SO much negativity on this website recently, I can assure you that negativity rubs off - It's reflected in the crowd figures.

Frankie Mac summed it up pefectly in my opinion http://www.yellowfever.co.nz/show-news.asp?ID=2591

If the fever remain POSITIVE and keep turning up to matches and sing, the rest of Wellington will continue to come along.

Watching live football isn't ALL about what's happening on the field, it's the experience of being among passionate fans aswell.

You think just because people are negative they won't go? I haven't bn as negative as some people on here but certainly see dark clouds forming, yet there isnt the slightest possibility i want go and i think most people on here would agree.
My point in regards your focus is that people who are reading the blog with all due respect Andrew are reasonably likely to be football die hards who will go.

We're all fans of the side and we're in this together. We need to show a united front and turn up whilst doing everything we can to spur the team on.

Regardless of our opinions of who or what is to blame for the slump in form, come matchday we all need to be positive and give the lads some encouragement.

That's what fans are for!

I'm not saying you or any of the 4000-odd die hard fans who sit in the fever zone won't go, I'm saying the negativity may deter others.

The general public know how committed you guys are, how do you think they feel when they see negative quotes from this website in the paper? My concern is they will think "well if THEY'VE given up hope, why should i go?".

You may well be right that only die hards will read the blog, but at the end of the day the blog is for the 3news website ... it is intended as football comment to the general public, as are the other blogs on the website.

For every die hard football fan, there is probably 5 half-hearted football fans.

A passionate rev up, is a good idea. It's like that NZ Warriors soul song a couple of years ago . . . "its a matter of faith song". . . . that marketing campaign worked wonders in retaining a reasonable crowd numbers in their blackest years

I can't find that song, but if someone finds it post the link on the stay strong , stay positive thread . . . .

I love the Phoenix, I love the supporters who turned out last Sunday and got behind the team from the off, and I loved the way the Nix actually fought and backtracked the whole game. Keep supporting the team win or lose, we may not get another bite of the cherry if they depart.
you are on the money Andrew Gourdie, Phoenix football fans need to show some stickability and encourage others to join.
