As much as it pains me, it would have to be argued the Phoenix "Andrew and Fred" home commentary presentation isn't a patch on what they offer from Oz. The likes of Mel McLaughlin and co actually sound like they want to be there and provide great match atmosphere ..... not to mention being easy on the eye!

On the up side, at least it provides incentive to get down to the stadium just to avoid being lulled to sleep by Fred and co's dolcide tones on the telly!

Completely agree. Would love to see a change on sky. Maybe Gordon Glen Watson? I thought he was really good at the OFC Nations Cup.

Gordon Glen Watson would be so much better.  How can we make this happen?

Could ask him if he's keen first, @Gordon_Watson on twitter.

Pretty sure the question came up in the Honiara Horror thread. Can't recall why it wasn't possible tho.

There is no "aussie option", so I don't know how Sky could put that on your remote.

Chuckled to the radio commentary when Branko Culina was talking about "great pass there by Culina."

Glad to see someone's father can be a commentator and not be biased though. Thought he was great.

Fair enough to have an opinion. Though it wasn't particularly constructive or insightful. As you said, borderline I guess.

Can you define "shit" and "dry balls" for me?

You're entitled to your opinion and I'm not bothered what other people think, but it is somewhat difficult to change "shit" and "dry balls" when there is no frame of reference.

Feel free to email me or ring with a detailed appraisal.

Or, I can call you back.

Cheers,

Gordon

The guy is just trying to get some feedback so he can provide you with moist balls and a commentary experience without faeces. It's what we all dream of, and you're the one with the know how who can help him.

Do it for football fans everywhere tripvincent, we believe in you.

No, not bothered, seriously.

I just like to perfect my work and I take my profession seriously.

I also make myself available and open to discuss how I can improve.

I've had plenty of conversations offline with forum posters who did find elements of my broadcasting not quite to their taste.

I find the feedback valuable and constructive.

You've chosen to criticise in a non-specific way (bordering on abuse?) and I've made myself available to discuss it with you, at my cost, if needs be.

I understand that perhaps posting anonymously on the forum is probably less confrontational for you.

Entirely up to you.

I am disappointed that you haven't taken the opportunity to discuss it with me offline, but that's your choice.

I doubt there are too many in the media industry who make themselves available to such discussions - missed opportunity for you, too?

Enjoy your evening!

You pretty childishly and offensively call him out without offering any reasoning for it, and now you're telling him to relax, and are STILL not doing anything to back up your ill-informed opinion?

Wow.

i wasn't aware he was on here. not that that's a problem. i haven't dropped anything. people call various players on here shit from time to time. are they then asked to call the player back or take their call?

No but they're asked to articulate a bit more than "he is shit". In fact it's a forum rule.

You said he was shit. He asks you (very politely considering, I might add!) what it is that makes you say that...and you respond by saying he is overreacting. Bizarre.

which number is that rule?

4. You were bordering on rule 7,but weren't to know he was on here, as you said.

But I wasn't really talking about rules, just stating the sequence of events.

1) you say his commentary was shit.

2) he politely asks you to elaborate on that vague comment.

3) you say he is overreacting.

As I said, bizarre.

As a general rule of thumb, you should be backing up any negative statement you make about anyone (including players, staff, media and other forum members) with justification. Just saying someone is shit is not accepted, and repeated occasions of it will earn a ban.

Like you said, people on here have been calling other people shit for a while, which is why News and I are working to eradicate some of the persistent negative comments on here. If you look back over the last week or so, you will see several people getting told similar things to what I said to you, watch what you are posting or you may earn yourself a ban.

Anyway, if you want to continue this, we have a thread for it: http://forums.yellowfever.co.nz/categories/off-topic/topics/the-whining-about-modding-thread. In the meantime, let's keep this thread about the commentators.
