personally i think its stupid. im not interested unless they are playing against the phoenix. its like stealing terrys idea to get them here in the first place. i suppose its good  for auckland. but theres no way its gonna be as good as if they play the phoenix

I dont reckon it will sell out. Which is a sad state of affairs. I don't think I would go to it, even though I live in Auckland and went to the game in Welly. Its not appealing at all and I reckon the atmosphere would be close to that of rugby union

I'll probably wander along to it, more from curiosity than anything else. At least I should have plenty of room!

Don't think anybody's arguing that it won't be as good, or get as big a crowd, as the Nix game

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Personally, I fail to see the point of the whole exercise.
The innovative/novelty factor from the last season is gone, and I can't really see the media and non-fans getting as excited about the whole thing to any significant extent.
Add in the fact that they'll be playing a selection of who knows who (and which doesn't really have its fans either), who will have little or no time to spend together as a squad, and this has the potential to be a real charade that could undo some of the progress that's been made over the last 12 months.

I can just see the likes of Dwarf Veitch and w**ker Henry going "not the Beckham circus again..."

I generally think any football is good for this country...but the logic in this 'event' seems quite strange and I doubt it will have much value for football.

Aucklanders aren't the best supporters of their teams, and I suspect willl be even worse for two teams they have no affinity with (LA and Oceania XI?). They are really putting it all down to Beckham to draw the crowd. It's definity not about football, but more about Beckham - so may be just a dinner or 'ins and out' tennis or something might be just as good...

I would still go (live next to the ground) and generally support all things football (even go to Waitak O-League games even though I support City). But wil be interesting to see how many others would? I suspect Phoenix VS LA would draw a bigger crowd  in Auckland or may be even the Fijian team BA vs LA and quite possibly even the Knights as these teams remove an element of the 'circus' from the game (Okay maybe don't include the Knights in that).

That will be a sell out - NOT.

Maybe a few thousand "china girls" in funny socks and Galaxy shirts, what will that do for NZ football, eh; Winston?

Its in danger of being a flop....last year football fans from all over the country flocked to Wellington to see Becks/Phoenix. There were 18,000 on the Friday night before to see the Phoenix play an A-league game. It was a huge weekend in Wellington and the press got right in behind it all.

In Auckland you will not have loyal Phoenix supporters turning up to see their team play. The drawing power of the Oceania X1  is zero.... Beckham is the only drawcard. There might be a few teenie boppers coming to see the man but I can't imagine football followers from around the country will make the effort to get there. If they get 20.000 they will be lucky!

well...would have to wait and see what Island stars they get and how much they charge on the gate...

if the islanders who play get a long...but yeah 20 k seems a big ask...its not like there is much to the Galaxy- who was that head case who got a penalty for falling over the ball against the phoenix?? Pavon or something...

If I was in Auckland at the time, I'd spend $70 on it.

But I certainly wouldn't go up specially - I've already seen the Galaxy.

If we could sneak some of Phoenix' reserve players into the team, that might make it more worthwhile ...

I think Auckland's just bitter cos we thought of it first ...

I wouldnt pay $70 to see it even if i was up there...and thats not an us vs auckland thing at all...I just really dont see it being a quality game, or having much of an atmosphere at all.

Allegedly

Stevo, charming as she is... a little NSFW and off topic (despite me starting the hi-jack).

How about some pictures of Miss Universe NZ 2008 ?   I believe that she is more Phoenix relevant...

I can't compete with all these hot women, so I just thought I'd say, why don't we get the All Whites to play instead of some made-up Oceania 11?

More chance of having a home side people care about ...

Yes its hard............to keep on topic with all those Asian babes on screen.

What about the Oly whites vs Galaxy?. At least it would give them some game time against better opposition.

Zinidine Zidane is playing a charity match inSydney with Karebeau and a whole bunch of the French 1998 World Cup winners. I WOULD go to Auckland to see Zidane play. He's still the man and not too old either

seeing Zidane would be 189.34x better than seeing Beckham...BRING IT!
