.................a couple of rowers I didn't know existed until tonight.
Congratulations to them but WTF in the global scheme of achievements does their success better the All Whites who will be in the sporting limelight for many months to come, despite NZ media anti football bias.
Halberg Awards have c*cked up yet again and therefore have no credibility. Actually thought I'd tuned in to a penguin suit and music promotion.
God I wish I was at the AC/DC concert.

Rowing dominates sports awards Newstalk ZB - February 4, 2010, 9:58 pm

Rowing's Evers-Swindell twins have scooped the major gong at tonight's Halberg Sports Awards in Auckland.

Caroline and Georgina Evers-Swindell have been crowned 'New Zealand Sports Personalities of the Decade'. The double Olympic gold medalists have joined the likes of Danyon Loader, Sir Peter Snell and Sir Richard Hadlee as Decade winners.

The twins have edged world shot put champion Valerie Vili, who has won the supreme 'Halberg Award' for the third straight year. Vili was also named 'Sportswoman of the Year' tonight.

Rower Mahe Drysdale has taken the gong for 'Sportsman of the Year', and the men's world champion rowing pair of Eric Murray and Hamish Bond was named 'Sports Team of the Year'.

Rowing rounded out an exceptional night with Richard Tonks named 'Coach of the Year', and the 'Emerging Talent' award went to cyclist Sam Webster.

I know I shouldn't state the bleeding obvious but..................
this article above should have carried the following disclosure.
The Halberg Awards only recognises sports that will not be a threat to Rugby.

Can't say I'm not surprised to be honest. With no ex-footballer in the judging panel, the All Whites never had a chance.

The Halbergs is pretty much all about ex-sports people voting for their own sports, to trump up their credentials and try to justify all the years they spent in minority sports.

Even without the expectation to nominate some token All Blacks so they don't have riots in the streets, the sports awards in New Zealand lost their credibility years ago.

I know Dame Susan Devoy is on there, as is Telfer and Mark Richardson. Not sure of the rest. 24 of them apparently. Not fussed about this. We won the equivalent of the regional qualifiers. Get through to the 2nd round and we will deserve it. I Struggle with the importance of rowing World Champs though, as they have World Champs every year, so I find it hard to believe that people wouldn't trade in 3 world champ golds for an Olympic gold.
