from fred woodcock's piece - "Meanwhile, the Phoenix are exploring the possibility of taking a regular season home match outside Wellington for the first time, with Auckland and Christchurch the leading candidates."

Well, that'll please a few of the more far flung YFers.

Well I have to agree somewhat to the above post. I am sure a trip to Auckland will hit the back pockets financial wise, you might as well have a match in Waikato, you probably get a better money return.

I not think that we should do that until we get an extra home match over the away matches because of the third rounds format. If they do use a regular season game, they it would be best to use the first regular home match and/or the last regular home match. Christchurch in the first regular match because it would show that Christchurch is better suited to hold A-League match than Auckland as well as drumming up support for an a-League franchise there. And then have the last regular season home match in Auckland, because by then they would reasonably popular with some wins and Auckland only loves winners and get likely to get crowd numbers by then. If they have the first regular match then, they would still think it's another A-league match that they wouldn't want to see, because the knights are still a memory and Wellington is not important for them. Nahhh let them get a bit more hungry by wanting for another full season and you are certain to get better crowds.

BTW if they renamed as New Zealand Phoenix, I'll vomit. I will support them from any part of the country, in Australia, overseas and even in Auckland but if they name them NZ Phoenix, then that just an insult to NZ football, even if they are good. An one club country is not our future and I refuse to support such a bloody screw up concept. It would be an insult to Wellington Intelligence and the Wellington crowd would not feel at home even at home.AllWhitebelievr2008-02-23 22:45:26

well ballane, like it or not, the Phoenix are New Zealand's only team in the A League, and it costs some of us heaps to travel to Wellington to support "your" team. I don't think they would be planning to change their name if they played a home game in Hamilton or wherever.

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

not sure about this,i am happy to travel to wellington to watch the phoenix play at home as its only a couple of hours or three depending on traffic, would not travel anywhere else though
i can also understand that people from canterbury and other places may want to see a game but cannot afford to go to  wellington to see any.

sports teams should play their home games at their home ground - end of.  International teams can play all over the country, but the wellington phoenix play their games at the ring of fire, and that is how it should stay.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

this is bull. there is no way that terry would let the phoenix play a home match away from the ring of fire. its our team. but wellingtons team. thats the only thing that football fans in wellington have something to looking forward to every friday night. and trust me he recognizes the yellow fever at every single match and says how awesome they are. he wouldnt let that happen to us
