AS people pointed out earlier - Sky probably hasnt picked them up as they are competition - why promote a competitior company where you once had such a strong monopoly. Giving Sommet more ratings and viewers would only help them grow stronger and give them power to pick up bigger events - Sky sports will then lose more credibility as people will question how much they are paying..

Cheers, I can now see it.  Using the channel up button didn't give me anything.

Bradford v Arsenal league cup game was on last night. Part of me was excited to see some footy and my team but also gutted that they had to show "this" game. I didn't watch it to the end :)

Tonight at 7:40pm on Sommet is the Capital Cup clash between Chelsea and Swansea.

Whenever I flick over it's always showing Aussie Rules.

I'm starting to get used to it.  It's a bit more interesting than other egg balls actually.

Is it worth getting a freeview box just for this channel?

Allegedly

I only have Freeview but am too challenged to manage to re-search everything, hopefully it's not too long before it's on channel 14 for good.

You will need a freeview receiver to get all channels soon

I would be guessing Tegal is asking if it is worth it if he already has Sky, and hence already gets the important other channels.

Only available on UHF Freeview isn't it? Use it as an excuse to buy a new TV with a tuner card, so you can just plug a TV aerial in to get it.

Moot point anyway, as I live in an area where we can only get satellite coverage. I shall miss watching the EPL via honest methods. Guess I'll just have to listen to the radio.

Not having a go at you in the slightest, but it would be a disgrace and an embarrassment if all football fans in NZ are about to be reduced to listening to EPL games on the radio as the only option. Way to be progressive NZ.

Rights to the EPL in NZ have been sold to "an internet start up called Colosseum".

F##k - "an internet start up" !!!!!

Sounds like a scam to me !!!!

And Sky came third in the bidding behind Sommet Sports !!! Pathetic....

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=10891391

"Sommet posted a message on its Twitter account this evening, which said: "Sommet doesn't have EPL, we came second in the bidding, MP & Silva sold the rights to an internet start up called colosseum [sic]"."

Sky TV: ""Last week we concluded our biggest ever deal with Football New Zealand to cover All Whites and Football Ferns matches, we will continue to show Wellington Phoenix and other A-League matches and through ESPN we will continue to have coverage of the Champions League. Over the coming weeks we expect to announce more new football coverage."

What we know about Sommet Sports' football coverage so far - from recent posts on the Fever:

Sommet Sports on Freeview will apparently be able to offer two delayed EPL games a week:

See last sentence of this report just updated by the Herald:

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=10891580

"Sommet Sports, soon to be available on Freeview Channel 14, will still be able to show two delayed EPL games per week."

Sommet Sports are currently broadcasting as a test on Freeview ch. 114 - daily program schedule on their Facebook page here: (last week had full replays of Capital Cup Chelsea v Swansea, Europa League games from last season , Europa League Highlights.)

https://www.facebook.com/SommetSports for further updates over coming weeks. (This Facebook page has their current program schedule too)

Hi I've heard that you have the rights to these football leagues and cup competitions:

Bundesliga, Championship, League 1, League 2, Europa League, League Cup & Argentinian League
particularly in regards to the Bundesliga, but also the Championship which feature NZ and Australian players are you going to be showing full games, including live games or will this be the weekly highlights packages that Sky and Face tv currently show?

Cheers,

Martin

andrew@sommetsports.com

Hi Martin

We will be showing live games in full.

Kind regards

Andrew

I guess I should have asked about replays at watchable hours, but go those Freeview recorders...Great news for sports coverage in NZ.

Ok so is there a secret to getting this channel? Freeview at home (built into tv) - no such channel as 114. Freeview at work (via an external receiver) - still no such channel.

It won't show up in any channel map or anything at this stage as it's a "hidden channel" but type 114 straight into your remote and it should come up.

They are still in testing stages, so you have to manually navigate to channel 114 with the numbers on your remote. it doesn't show in the guide or channel lists.

Test pattern up now on Channel 114. It is a hidden channel so you would have to do a rescan of UHF digital and then type 114 into your remote.

Thanks for the heads up. Watching it now. Its showing European basketball.

TO WATCH SOMMET SPORTS, FREEVIEW UHF ONLY, CH. 114 (TEMPORARY TEST CHANNEL):
Seems the key, as others have posted above, is to do a "rescan" on your box and then type "114" manually on your remote.
I have only a Freeview satellite box I used for a time with my Sky dish after I had Sky disconnected for a while.
But have got my Freeview UHF box ordered from the "Dish TV" website (one of the major NZ manufacturers) - Is costing me $70 for the reconditioned (display model) option of a "Dish TV  aerialBox mini T1000 Freeview|HD single tuner USB PVR"
I recommend this website - works out cheaper buying direct from the manufacturer - postage is free on all their boxes.
My box apparently can also record to an external hard drive through its USB port- which is handy as I have a 1 TB hd sitting around - and can also stream the internet via a WIFI dongle you can put in the second USB port.
They have other more expensive options with built-in hard drive and twin receivers etc. for recording Freeview.
Another option I've read about is if you have a Playstation 3, you can also get the "Play TV" pack (cheap on Trade Me) which allows you to record Freeview onto your PS3.

Does anyone know: If I just have satellite Freeview, will Somnet Sports eventually be available for viewing?

Currently it seems to be only available via UHF. Not sure if that will ever change.

Maybe when it changes from a Test Transmission to a permanent channel?

Just as a guess, you would think it costs a lot more to broadcast via satellite. UHF would be much cheaper.

Sommet Sports is launching a free to air sports channel on the Kordia terrestrial Freeview platform. If you are outside of this coverage area or wish to watch the channel on a computer, tablet or smart phone we will be streaming video of our channel live on the internet at this website.

Our goal is clear; we want to offer Sports to New Zealanders on Free to Air TV. There has been a generation that has had limited live sports on TV. We believe that the viewing of sports is the osmosis to participation and is important to a sports mad nation.

Sommet Sports has a varied range of sports that we will be broadcasting, some of which has never been broadcasted in New Zealand.

Our channel will only work with Freeview Approved Terrestrial Product (it requires MHEG5).

Sommet asked on Facebook which other EPL 'TV' fans would want to see (other than Chelsea which they already have), and some wise guy linked the Liverpool Supporters Forum to the post. 250 posts later, 200 of them are asking for Liverpool, each with an additional gazillion likes.

So I guess it will be LFC TV.
