*sigh*

Their at it again.... whats so bad about advertising an overseas gambling company? It seems your only allowed to advertise gambling companies which New Zealanders can lose all their money with.

Our laws are clear on the matter.  There should be no getting around them.

The reason this law is in place is because gambling companies in New Zealand have strict charitable obligations that they must fulfil.  Offshore companies are not subject to the same restrictions.

It's the same for Liverpool (IIRC) in France. They have an alcohol company as shirt sponsor, and the French don't allow it, so they did something else.

How do the Aussies handle this same issue?
Don't they have different gambling companies licenced to operate in only certain state/s?

Dunno mate, sorry. It's never been an issue as far as I know.

Centrebet have been exploiting loopholes here in NSW where TAB enjoys exclusivity of advertising. Apparently it's ok for them to advertise by sponsoring sporting clubs. (I think the Cronulla Sharks,a Rugby League team,is another example)

it's not going to make a difference. seriously what self respecting Australian would leave their pokie machine to go to the internet and gamble?

Apparently they are overlooking it this time, but next time Centrebet won't be allowed to be on a Jets shirt for a game here.

Part of how they handle it is CentreBet hiding in the Northern Territories where there is no Government agency.

and now Centrebet have had more exposure in NZ than they would have if they simply let the Cesna's roll in, play and go home. Nice job. I bet Centrebet don't care they won't be on the shirts for one game as they've just got their money's worth here.

sounds reasoning has won the day, this time. NZ govt chooses to over look the issue this time, provided no logo shown in end of game interviews and next away game Centrebet is off the Jets jerseys. Who were their sposors last year? We didn't have this issue then did we?

Goodnews to overlook it... now all that needs to happen is have some retart greeny pop in and accuse the government of breaking the law.

Don't think they had a shirt sponser in V3, could be wrong though. Good to see it worked through, but it's too true that we have given them far more exposure than neccessary.
