Keano is and will continue to be a legend. Too many kiwis dont seem to understand the psyche of "the gaffer" in the UK. They swear n' curse and tell ya to "f**ckin cripple the c**t" - none of this "play hard bit play fair" shyte.

And as for Haaland, he got exactly what he deserved.

If Keano is such a twat newzelandpower, then put Gattuso, Viera in the same boat and lets have Joey Barton on the next vessel. Hard mean in football are a dying breed, Keano was one of the few remaining - show some respect!

rant over.

Keane the manager has had a brilliant start, Henry will be the learner, Keane will show him up for his amateur attitude and why we lost in the quarter finals of the world cup. Keane learnt from fergusson and was only telling the truth about fergussons attitude to refs if he doesnt win every game 3-0. Keane will become one of the games great managers, his will to win is top shelf, and all this coming from one of his biggest critics as a psycho player!

Viera is twat, but Gattuso has a code of honour. He'll bash you and shake your hand, and he'll never end anyone's career.
Keane doesn't have my respect cause he often entered a challenge in order to hurt. Sure he won the ball, and by doing so he did something useful for his team, but there are different ways of being 'tough'. His way was the least 'classy', he was just a good athlete, someone who could run on the pitch for 90 minutes and had a remarkable passion - that's all.

I don't like the guy, period. It's people like him, in my opinion, that ruin the game of football - which should be about skills and flair. Nowadays people like Baggio, C.Ronaldo, Saha, Totti..anyone who has a bit of skills needs to watch out or else they'll get crippled for life.
And I don't like that! I like my footy to be intense, but I hate when defenders target strikers and try to hurt them.

I reckon a new school of thought should prevail amongst strikers: if you loose the ball, just f**king take out your man, and break his leg. Then I'd like to see how Materazzi, Roy Keane, Poulsen etc would have to say on the matter!

Keane did it once - sure he's hard and has put in some strong tackles but you make out that he crippled someone every game - not true. He's far more than just a good athlete, his passing skills and reading of the game were sublime - some of the goals he scored were outstanding - very skillful player is also hard as a nut.

If strikers deliberatly broke peoples legs they'd get banned - simple.

Keano recieved 13 Red cards in his professional career over 630 games - pretty good ratio really

Keane is one of the very few to have worn the red shirt that I worship. He was out there to win, isn't that what we want our boys to win? isn't that why we play/coach/support?

I hope we see the phoenix play sunderland...esp as we have a kiwi over there with them

An article from the SMH on A-League coaches undertaking coaching qualifications and travelling overseas to other clubs to continue their coaching education. Has a bit on Ricki and says that he "is the first Kiwi to coach the New Zealand national team" which surprised me.

im sure mr keane is very sad YOU don't respect him nzpower. Gattusso? code of honour? shaking someones hand after a game is a mere formality - code of honour "get teh fook!"

Midfield hardmen have been kicking lumps out of little f**ks like Ronaldo (and i support Man U) since Adam put a stiff 1 in Eve - it just so happens that Keano is THE hardman that most football followers of the last 10 years will remember.

Have u seen some of the stuff Keano would do "off" the ball, filling space, pulling people in and keeping the team in some sort of shape so they could win the bacll back high up the park. For every tackle he had to make, he probably put his team mates in positions to make 30 other tackles in a game. If you knew ANYTHING about football then you would know thats what a central midfielders job is, as well as making "those" tackles.

And no its the Keanos of the world that ruin football, its pussys like you who try to water down the greatest game in the world. Whos the twat now?

I agree with you, and I did not mean that he crippled players every time.
Just that he was too 'hard' for me. As I said I think it's too easy to chop someone down after they beat you. Have the guts to chase them and try to regain the ball.

Sure he did some good defensive/offensive work, but I still cannot sympathize with someone who ended a player's career and said he did it on purpose, and that the c**t even deserved it!

And as for others, who question Gattuso's code of honour (and I meant that he can be tough too but after he chopped you down he'll give you his hand to get you back up) and that I would like to "water down" the greatest game in the world, please remember that people like Maradona, C. Ronaldo, Cafu, Dunga, Ronaldo, Zidane, Totti, Liedholm, Kruiff..these are the people who made the game what it is nowadays.

It's about being a champion as it is being a good person, to give a good example to all those who watch, breathe, live football, in my view.

That's why, when people tell me that Materazzi is one of the greatest defenders in the world, I always reply: "he's a great player and a little little man". (if you don't know what I mean just google: materazzi fouls) and see what I was talking about!

I wonder if after he's done his All Black gig he will do a training session with the Phoenix?. Could be possible as him and Rickie met on the same coaching course. Would be good to watch a EPL coach at work.

Saw Rikki turning up with RK at the All Black training today on TV. Chatting away like old friends. Roy Keane as our marquee???????

Rumour was he was at the Nix training today at Newtown 2.

This could quickly turn into a new Now You're Stalking thread.

I'll find a prize for the best pic of RK in NZ taken by a Feverite.  Go to it stalkers!

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Well if he does meet up with the Nix players, they want to tape record everything he says and really listen to what he says. Make the most of this rare but valuable opportunity. Keane as our Marquee? Certainly a huge improvement on our last one, despite his age.

I still maintain, Henry would learn from him, not Keane learning from Henry.

For Sunderland's sake, I hope so.

I'm a Wallabies supporter and yet I'm still disappointed in the NZRU for re-signing Henry. Biggest f**k-up in NZ rugby history.

In other news, let's get Keane in a Retro Ricki!

I emailed Sunderland FC when I first heard he was coming and asked if there was an opportunity while Roy was in NZ for me to take him out for lunch.

The nice Exec Assistant lady in the Sunderland office said that unfortunately he had a very busy schedule while here in NZ but was chuffed with my invite and sorry to have to decline.....

Perhaps talk about a professional attitude and not accepting defeat Tegal. We could all learn a lot from him.

I think you'll find this coaching technique is a thing of the past. The sports psychology literature backs this up. Such techiniques decrease motivation. A "player's manager who gives the players more bonding, positive feedback and (perceived) control will receive more self-determined intrinsic motivation, which is the most enduring.

Look at how much Alex Ferguson has tamed over the years, and now he has, by all accounts, his best ever team.

We tried....and tried....but he was dead-set against doing any media while he was here.

his response seems fair enough in some ways - i figure he's had his fill of media during the english season

but on the other hand i guess he doesn't realise (or care) about the positive impact a simple interview with himself could do for the relative profile of the game here

good on you for giving it  a whirl
