Spent not lost!
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

The Dompost had an article on Terry today in which they wrote "Owns the Phoenix football team, which lost him $2.5m during its first two seasons." Lost? Hardly! The word they should have used was SPENT!

technically lost is more appropriate....but I agree he probably sees it as spent for his own entertainment.

I see it more as a philanthropic loan

it is philanthropy because it brings pleasure (and some would say 'meaning') to the lives of thousands of New Zealanders

and because it increases the cultural credibility of New Zealand

it is also (potentially) a form of seeding capital for all NZ businesses, because if we do qualify for SA 2010 it is probable that the experience given to the Nix players in our squad by A-league and the Nix/YF link to the sell-out gate would not have happened w/o Terry's investment  (short of NZ winning gold in the Olympic 100 meters and 400 metres and marathon I don't believe MFAT could wish for a better worldwide platform to promote NZ)

and it's a loan - because (hopefully) he'll get it back when we lift the A-league trophy for a few seasons and crowd #s and sponsorship see the club turn a profit

(oh yeah, selling Rojas to Hull City - or some European club  = 2.5 mill kiwi dollars)
