Another death caused by a boy racer

There used to be a huge big burnout and drifting comp held yearly somewhere round Otaki that wd attract thousands of so called 'boy racers' but the kapiti residents finally got it blocked - not because of noise pollution or problems with crime or driving but simply because they objected to their council spending any money on what they consider hooligans

and using the logic of a few bad eggs spoiling it for all - then in countries where football hooligans cause drunken mayhem on the general public maybe govt's shd make football matches spectator free and also ban it in pubs so people can only watch it from home and arent tempted to congregate and get drunk and rowdy

In NZ you get just as many older males who cd care less about cars drunk driving cause they feel they are entitled to and that they have always done it and never caused harm. and you get just as many accidents in the 15-25 bracket by people who have crap cars or who think they are invincible and drunk drive but also arent racer boys per se

according to the news tonight, Police are still investigating, but are now thinking it was
driver error, although witnesses are saying he was drifting)

I feel terrible for the family and know there is a boy racer problem but I also think the govt and councils shd realise its about time they start contributing facilities to guys into cars the same way they provide sports fields etc. You guys are all busy critiscing but imagine if there was no where for you to indulge the thing you love to do

Boy racers get a bad rep and sure in some cases they deserve it but the great majority of guys into performance cars work really hard and pay taxes just like the rest of us. I met a guy who was 23 and had already spent $20000 on his car just in mods and had worked 60 hr weeks for 4-5 years to fuel his passion

In the states esp in places like LA they except that some people like to drive fast and slowly they have come to the party and they put on street drags in a structured environment

and yes I might be a chick but I totally own up to never sticking to the speed limit

If these guys can spend tens of thousands on their own cars, they can pull their money together and buy their own speed pad or track.

I tried to imagine how I'd feel if that happened to me, but it was too much. Horrible.

I propose that the police, ambos and fire brigade should be able to reserve the right not to assist boy racers who f**k themselves up due to speed and booze. Just leave them to sort themselves out.

yeah well ffs to this too and to you KP - why shd ambos paid for by everyone's tax dollars fix up sporting injuries where people choose to take the risk of getting hurt. not every drunk driver is a boy racer so should they too be left to die on the side of the road - well personally I have something against anyone who willingly drink drives or is stoned behind the wheel so yes

and what about those who speed who aren't drunk or on drugs. i'm sure you've never driven a km over the limit in your life with your holier than tho attitude

I cant stand drunk drivers myself and think they are the scum of the earth, I found boy racers worse because they know what they are doing.

I use to live ona  street that was plauged with them, every weekend, myself and neighbours put up with verbal abuse, property damage, and the constant BRMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM, screaming and yelling.

It was annoying  and inconsiderate.

I have never been abused when walking past a sports field, my life has never been put in danger, by a goal keeper, I cant say the same about boy racers.

I don't think its a game and I'm not a boy/girl racer. i'm just saying why are there boy racers speeding on our roads. why arent there places for them to indulge their passion for speed. the problem has been around for ages and no one offers any solutions because people like you guys bite our heads off if we suggest maybe the answer is a lateral one

and many of the speeding/alcohol incidences in the last cpl of years esp involving high school students havent been by boy racers. a lot of boy racers put so much money into their car they are kind of careful about what they do with it. but narrow minded people tend to stereotype anyone who is young and speeds or does something stupid as being part of the boy racer milieu

There is not a chance if you give these people places to go to speed or do burnouts they would stop their anti social behaviour.

These kids love the attention, they love screaming abuse at the police and the public, they get off on it, they dont care about the public, I couldnt care less how much they spend on  their cars, its the behaviour, its not just the speeding, its a safety attutide.

instead of instantly branding anyone who likes cars a dangerous hoodlum/boy racer NZ should be at least providing more things like this

and maybe if there wasn't so much irrational hate aimed at them then car enthusiasts wd be more willing to keep everything legal rather than feel they are being rail roaded

That sounds like blackmail, why should our taxes go to people who say they are going to commit a crime if we dont.

I never had a problem with young sports people, young skateboarders, young musicians, etc etc etc.

But i have had plenty of glass bottles come on my property, thrown out of cars.

I'm not at all convinced that providing an area for these people will stop them from being idiotic on the open road.

..Idiots...the lot of them.

And i don't think providing play grounds for fossil fuel based recreation is the answer. an unsustainable past time.

More money on artifical pitches please!

awaits inevitable boy racer backlash-but man, i don't get motor 'sport'. probably too many cold rotovegas mornings in the frosty hinterlands watching the nz rally with my old man, didn't get it then, don't get it now.

SK do you purposely come on here and play devils advocate to every single argument/debate just for the sake of it? Seriously, some of your points are f**king retarded, even for a woman.

If anyone saw the news tonight.
Police say that there is no evidence of Racing or excessive speed.

From what ive heard, the most serious he could be charged for is Manslaughter or Use of vehicle causing death and Use of vehicle causing injury. To use the proper terms.

Yep.  No need to sink to abusive language.  You (shambles baby) don't agree with her views and in this case neither do I.

SK at least tries to rationalise an arguement.

EN's reaction was understandable and yet he was decent enough to apologise.

I don't actually care if anyone on here thinks I'm a f**king idiot or not. Least I wouldn't have lynched a driver who it looks more and more likely simply lost control on wet streets
Even the parents of the dead child are 100 times more tolerant than you lot. In todays Dom Post it quotes ""We don't have any anger towards the motorist involved in this terrible accident. It is a tragedy for us all," Duncan and Emma Woods said in a statement last night"

And even if he was speeding or trying to drift its still just a tragic accident and what 18yr old hasnt had vast errors of human judgement. There have been numerous human deaths in NZ over the years simply because someone got angry and threw one punch. Well the majority of you all way overreacted and threw written punches. I've got no idea why people think El Nino was justified. I know nothing about him or his life but in real life people who get violently angry face consequneces. On here he gets there there - we're sorry mate. He hasn't apolagised to me in any way. and I no longer care

the simple fact is that in all the years I've gone to drag racing I've never seen abuse like whats easily bandied about on here. And the fact is you guys made me realise I have a lot more respect for fans of car racing than I do you guys. I've seen way more drunken antics in the YF zone at NIX games than ever did by a quarter mile strip. And in the Melb thread Buffy in particular was boasting about how drunk he'll get so he can't even follow the game

Unforetunatly there are idiots involved in both endeavours. But guess what - it's a persons choice wether to put up with idiots and I'm choosing not

I think you arguement loses it When you compare it football. There is a huge difference between getting drunk at a football game and at a boy racer event.

Im not saying its fine to go to the football and get so drunk that you want to fight  etc...... I think thats an issue with NZ drinking culture.

Drunk with the close proximity of Done up cars is is an accident waiting to happen.

Haven't got involved in this, till now. I have my own opinion. All I'll say is that, as far as I'm concerned, comments such as this do your argument (such as it is) no good at all:

Thanks. Pretty much sums it up. So you shouldn't be telling me I'll end up in jail cos I got angry at someone trying to make a point in a way which, at the time, I felt was out of line and simply playing devil's advocate. As well as being disrespectful.

And, for your information, Agnes would have approved of my language and response because she didn't have to play the "woman" card everytime someone abused her or argued with her.

I'm sorry I was abusive. But just because I write the things I write doesn't mean I'll hit someone or end up in jail. Pretty much what Buffy said, do you just play devil's advocate for the sake of it? Becuase sometimes there are things in life which you need to admit are stupid. If I had shot someone, would you defend me by saying "shooting is my passion and its okay because he works and pays for it himself"? No. You'd (rightfully) say that I should find a safe environment for it.

Anyway, ciao.

Which seems a shame.

Regardless of what you think of her opinions some of the abuse dished out to SK over the past couple of days has been pretty pathetic (not to mention blatantly in breach of forum rules).

Some of you still have a whole lot of growing up to do.

I've sent her an email saying she should come back and apologising that this has missed moderation.  We've kind of been focussed elsewhere and this got away.

It's a shame really as somewhere in here are some reasonable discussion points buried in a see of teenage idiocy.

That's good.

SK - if you are reading this please don't be put off by the zits and hormones brigade. The irony is that some of these boys actually need to hear more from a strong female voice, even if they don't yet have the maturity to deal with it properly.

to be honest, I thought she was an absolute doris and it was a pain in the ass having to skip over her self indulgent posts while trying to keep track of what threads were about - not just this thread but everyone she got involved in.

Chasing her and asking her back will do wonders for her levels of self-importance.

BTW, before anyone has a go at me about being self-indulgent, etc, I have a right to be - I am very cool and sexy.
