David Pearson, a keen Phoenix, Team Wellington and Wharfies fan, is doing some research on English migrants and would be interested in hearing from anyone who would like to be interviewed about their migration experiences. Details are below.

English Identity: Migration and Change

The main aim of the research is to discuss the identities and experiences of different generations of English migrants to New Zealand. In particular, their views on differences and similarities between England and New Zealand and the changes both societies have undergone over the last few decades. We are specifically interested in English migrants who arrived in New Zealand before 1980 or after 1990, who were 18 years of age or older on arrival. Ideally, you will have lived in NZ for at least 2 years.

Involvement in this project will include participation in an audio-recorded interview of approximately one to two hours. Those interviewed will be asked about their perceptions and experiences of living in England and New Zealand and the changes they have lived through.

The project is being carried out by David Pearson, assisted by Charles Sedgwick, both experienced teachers and researchers in the School of Social and Cultural Studies at Vic, as part of a University funded research programme.

If you are interested in taking part in this research, please email David at

david.pearson@vuw.ac.nz  and he can send you more details. Many thanks

My name is Harry and I AM a Pom.

(Apparently the confession is the first road to redemption).

Seriously though, if you fancy giving a more considered response, I can thoroughly recommend participating in David's research.

NO, I AM NOT

Although I do find the premise of asking for English migrants only, while ignoring the Scots, Welsh and Irish, vaguely racist.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

No I'm British and English as I f*cking detest the word "pom" and find it offensive as do a lot of English people.

Apart from that I fit the research criteria.
