Thanks Wongo, I enjoy history so will google Nanking etc. That such events ever happened, and one must remember all sides were guilty of unhuman behaviour during various wars, is regrettable to say the least
I read an article in The Readers Digest (not a publication I read frequently) about Iris Chang & the book she wrote about the Rape of Nanking. She said she was often haunted by the images of the faces of the victims & often was reduced to sobbing after days of documenting harrowing accounts of the massacre. I recently learnt that she commited suicide in 2004 i think after bouts of depression caused by the writing of the book.
I have read John Rabe's diary called "A Good German In Nanking". He was a German electrical engineer who worked for the Seimens company in Nanking. Ironically, he was a Nazi Party member. He helped to set up a International Safety Zone with other foreigners in the city during the massacre to shield the local civilians from the Japanese.
