what a fuking magic afternoon of cricket. what was dravid given for in the end? whatever it was it wasnt out. i honestly believe the umpires cost india that game. i think if the lbw that clarke got tonight had been the other way round ie indian appealing it wouldnt have been out. the kumble one late yesterday and that one didnt look entirely dissimilar. but fuk the aussies are annoyingly good

The poor umpiring started on day 1 when Symonds nicked one on 34 and was given not out. Changed the match.

Yup its all a bit extreme by the Indians but also the Aussies and i mean if you can suck an umpire for falling into your Aussie trap you may as well do it. How else can you get a record?

Plus appealing for a catch when it's clearly missed everything is a f**king disgrace. How does Gilly, a 'walker', reconcile himself with some of the actions of his skipper.

Aussies are a bunch of two faced whingers, they can dish out the crap but as soon as someone stands up for themselves they run to the umps crying about it! I always respected Ponting for the way he played the game, but lately he seems to have changed, he started ok by not claimg the catch that he clearly grounded, but the telling the umpire that the Clarke catch was clearly out - and complaining about the supposed racial slur - rubbish!

I lost all respect for Ponting when he said of Lara's 400 not out in 2004 "You'd never see an Aussie bat that selfishly".

Harbhajan ban ignites Test storm

The bad blood between India and Australia is set to continue after the International Cricket Council (ICC) ended the Australian tour for Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh, banning him for three Test matches.

Harbhajan's ban for racially abusing Australia's Andrew Symonds came after an SCG Test which saw Australia's dramatic win marred by a string of bad umpiring decisions.

Many Indian and Australian cricket fans were left with a sour taste in their mouths, and India's captain, Anil Kumble, was certainly unimpressed with Ricky Ponting's team.

At a post-match media conference, he said "only one side" was playing within the spirit of the game.

India's Board for Control for Cricket (BCCI) says it will appeal against the ban, but has denied early reports that India will pull out of the tour.

India's media is providing wall-to-wall coverage of the ICC's decision

MR Mishra is the chief of the Press Trust of India's sports bureau and says the Indian public feels Harbhajan is being victimised.

"[They feel] this is part of the Australian strategy to go against them because they have been having a running feud with the Indian team, right through the tour against India in October," he said.

"So this has been going on, and this is seen as a deliberate campaign against the Indians, and there is a lot of anger about it."

The ICC's decision to ban Harbhajan came after a marathon eight-hour hearing in Sydney overnight.

The incident in question happened midway through the steadying batting partnership between Harbhajan and India's star Sachin Tendulkar on Friday.

Symonds, who is of Caribbean descent, and Harbhajan appeared to trade insults between overs, and within minutes Australian captain Ricky Ponting reported Harbhajan to the umpires for calling Symonds a "monkey".

Both Indian and Australian fans say the matter should not have gone before the authorities - they say sledging is part of cricket.

Umpiring decisions

India's frustrations have been compounded by bad umpiring decisions that mostly went in Australia's favour.

Man of the match Symonds admitted he was caught behind on 30 during Australia's first innings. The umpire missed it, and Symonds went on to make 162 not out.

At the post-match press conference last night, Kumble said his country would lodge a formal complaint to the ICC.

"I think only one team was playing with the spirit of the game, that's all I can say," he said.

The tensions spilled out into the press conference, with a heated exchange between Ponting and an Indian journalist.

"And I think, if you're questioning my integrity in the game, then you shouldn't be standing here," Ponting said.

Mr Mishra says it is an understatement to say Indians are unhappy.

And he says India has requested that umpire Steve Bucknor not be used for the remainder of the tour.

"I'm told from my sources that the ICC will definitely not put him on duty for the remaining matches - definitely not in Perth," he said.

the indians are staying in sydney, wont leave there hotel. they are effectively throwing there toys and good on them i say. the aussies would have done exactly the same had they been in the same situation. infact eden park 04/05 and ring of fire 03/04 i remember ricky throwing his toys cos ppl were abusing his fielders and changing the momentum of both games. the aussies need a good hard look in the mirror especially 'im a saint' gilchrist, i still cant figure out why they appealed against dravid yesterday, much less how he was given out

its not really about that as such, He's being made an example of, and poorly, very poorly, they made a mistake going after him on a matter that never should have gone past two competitiors, trying to look like there tackling cricket racism. combined with the ridiculous fashion in which the test was taken from them, and people like saint *i'm a walker but don't care if i con the other team out" ghilchirst and ponting should shut up.

Singh may have a family to support, who cares? He called a man a monkey and got what he deserved. Racism needs to be stamped out of sport, and now. This attitude of 'what goes on on the field stays on the field' doesn't stretch to racial vilification IMO. If it's not good enough to 'be seen to be doing something' then what good is doing nothing? I really feel strongly about this, but I'm willing to be persuaded that I'm missing a point...

I agree with Roebuck about Australia's culture of being bad winners, in international cricket anyway. I blame that humourless nerd Alan Border and the culture of 'winning at the cost of friendship' that he created in an effort to beat the awesome Windies sides of the 70s and 80s.

In a statement, the Board for Control of Cricket in India, which runs the game in its most lucrative market, says it wants the International Cricket Council "to review the decision of the match referee and suspend its operation till the appeal is disposed of ... The Indian board realizes the game of cricket is paramount but so, too, is the honor of the Indian team and for that matter every Indian. To vindicate its position the Board will fight the blatantly false and unfair slur on an Indian player."

Would it stand up in a court of law ?

No doubt the arrogant aussies are making similar comments. When NZ was in that series with England and Aus didn't Lou Vincent describe them when it comes to sledging as "A pack of dogs"?

Ponting is an absolute twat, that "If your questioning my intergrety you shouldn't even be here" comment was ridiculous. The media has every right to question a players intergrety, especially when they so blatently cheat.

I think the issue is that 5 Aussies have been believed over any audio evidence, ie neither the umpires or the stump mics picked it up...

The Aussies all said he said it, Proctor (Match Ref) believed them, and hey presto 3 games...

Sets a hell of a precedent

Poncing has shown his true colours and i'm glad that Indian journo challengecd him. He clearly grounded the ball. There were 5 Indian dismissals that all looked very very shakey. As for Symonds, with that white Zinc sh*t on his lips, what can he exect to hear? The guy looks like Al Johnson FFS. Don't wear the bright white Zinc! Not bad for a Jamacan Pom playing forAussie!

Aussies have always sledged and appealed anything remotely looking out. They just don't like it when challenged back. They wine their arses off. I hope the Indians do them quicker than a Chicken Vindaloo now.

What was that old religious saying? "Let he without sin cast the first stone". Just don't stand next to Poncing if God is around. I fear a lightning bolt may strike him!

i believe u kinda are missing the point a tad, but i respect what your saying here.

how i believe it to be, and i'll do the best i can to describe what i mean, is that this has gone far to far and the ICC has gone so far in looking for someone to make an example of to show they are trying to combat racism that they have completely missed the point about why they are doing it. the fact is its pretty much just another attack on an indian team who havent been given a chance through the time they have been in aussie against there BS. I'm sure if u asked any player playing against Steve Waugh that he has said a lot worse to people he's played against. Do u wonder why the aussies didnt kick up a fuss when Vincent Called them a "pack of Dogs" is being caled a dog and worse than a monkey just because he looks like one. (for truth) the point is whether lor not he actually said it, there just attacking the individual to get at the team, would u really be that offended being called a monkey, even if u looked like symonds?
