Maybe, but the case wasn't perfect for the defence either. Full of circumstantial evidence and they got lucky with the prosecution having some pretty crucial evidence supressed, like the fact that Bain had earlier planned to rape a woman and use his paper route as an alibi.
The fact that the Police and forensic investigators screwed the pooch so much really f*cked the case from the beginning as well.
All that aside though, there was certainly enough resting on the case for the jury to consider the evidence for a little longer, even if to give the appearance that they arrived to their decision after some healthy debate and scrutiny.
Instead, they take 5 or so hours to reach a verdict, and then actually have the balls to *be seen shaking hands and hugging Bain outside the courthouse and attending his victory party.
