Drinking a Craftsman Renaissance chocolate oatmeal stout. Quality. Also love the Renaissance Perfection Pale Ale.

Your gags are becoming more about speed than quality.

DB has never been about speed (more about the welling up inside later in the evening).

Actually - a gazillion years ago when micro breweries were a bit new and poofy, the Shakespeare up in Akld had some nice stuff (quite fruity - which I suppose underscored the poofiness about them).

Some of the best I had in my yoof were homebrew efforts, but unfortunately were counterbalanced by the most rank vile stuff also from my homebrew efforts (which we gamely drank because we didn't want to waste all the effort that had gone into producing 30 bottles of fermented vomit).

Ahhh the Shakespeare...

was so devastated when I found out they stopped brewing and only served export gold... good memories

This country produces no decent beers because of the need to freeze everything and the total reliance on IPA hops and killing beer by making it stupidy cold.

Oh, that's a pity. Had half crossed my mind that I could pop in when we are up for the 19 Nov game, along with some old mates who I will try and rope into coming to the game (a bit nostalgic like).

I've got some Tui 2010 (best before).  Is it worth a try?

Well well admitting to drinking at the Shakespeare explains a lot.

Sorry - I have to plead ignorance to your innuendo! I've never lived in Akld and only went there a few times when visiting mates.

Was there something else that I should have noticed about the Shakespeare?

I lived there when it was in its prime and never visited as often as you.

Yeah it's quality. There's a good story behind those guys who brewed it too [Parrotdog]. In three years they went from buying a home brew kit to winning some top craft beer awards - their latest being the main award at Beervana where I met them and had a chat about the Bitterbitch. A year after they brewed their first home brew they came second in the NZ home brew awards. I think they are Wellingtonians but don't quote me on that. I rate Wellington's craft beer/micro brewery scene - Regional is a quality shop too.

Pretty sure you're right - I read the same story and remember them as Wellingtonian too. IIRC BitterBitch was the first Parrotdog beer at Hashigo Zake and it's been selling like crazy since day one. And yes, Regionals is fantastic.

Love beer and love Regional  !!!!  Wellington, the wind the rain the Phoenix and Regional !!

(And Hashigo Zake and the Malthouse)

We regularly get flagons from Regional sent to us in Auckland, for our "beer tasting" nights. 3 Boys Oyster Stout on tap, supreme.

Shakespeare still brew on site by the way, dont know where that runour they have stopped came from, and didnt know about the other rumour either

Auckland bar scene is getting better slowly, more craft beers on tap. going to try the new micro brewer in Browns Bay one of these weekends

Yeah my mate went to the Bitterbitch launch at Hashigo Zake (I couldn't go thanks to mid-week ITM Cup) and he said they sold out that night I think they did at Beervana too.

A couple months back we had a team building function at work where we did a Montieths beer and food matching/tasting thing. Was pretty awesome, it was all fine food and the beer not to shabby either - Pils, Original, Golden, Celtic, Cider, Black. All paid for
