Test.

It's called a test for a reason.

It's the true test of wits, tactics, nerve and skill.

Plus it's a great excuse to sit on your arse and listen to the radio, drinking beers, for 5 days straight.

Test. The only version of the game that allows players to display their skills and ability in full.

Quite like the 50-over game too, because it also allows a wide range of skills to be displayed, but prefer tests.

Have no time for the farken 20/20.

Test cricket without a question. It's the greatest sport in the world. (Football close second though)

surely its football first,THEN test match cricket.

Agreed el...20/20 is the devil. I remember back when it wasnt taken seriously (still isnt really by most players) and it was just played as a one off,bit of fun knockaround at the beginning or end of a tour...now they play more 20/20s than they do test matches

Apparently Scotland are (or were recently), the highest ranking non test nation in cricket, won the ICC trophy a couple of years ago (the non test nations cricket comp)

Although I read the story a while back of an Englishman's attempt to start cricket up in the north of Scotland, couldn't stop the guys whacking each other with the bats longs enough for them to concentrate on hitting the ball

love the tests, what other game can carry the intrigu of a bowler battling a batsmen for so long! really shows up players weakness/strengths - and relaly only the class players shine at test level but in the hit and giggle games any old slogger or partime bawlker can succeed.

This is a big call but Salmon i think you have just had the best idea in the history of Yellow Fever. A backyard cricket challenge, we could do it the afternoon of one of the saturday night games! You are a genuis of a man!

now we just got to find a suitable bakyard!
who has either a:
  • grumpy old neighbour with a rabid dachshund
  • a beer fridge
  • a gorse bush
  • a 45 degree slope
any of those and we have found our nirvana!

Hmmmm you really have me thinking about this now, what about using the road outside the Bencher. Getting it closed putting up some walls, backyarding it up a bit. Could have potential. I know ZM had thought about doing a mini football tourny thing on the park across from Four Kings to promote the Nix. I am going to mull over this idea. Damn you Salmon for your genuis, unless you can impart similar genuis when it comes to Property Law?

Perhaps yf could run something similar over a weekend, with the final being held on a sunday afternoon before a match?

Cricket's boring.  Everybody knows it but people still watch it and say they like it - I can't fathom why.  It's too long, nothing happens, and to reiterate my original point, it's boring.

Backyard cricket is OK, and French cricket to a lesser extent.

The backyard at my old place was the best for backyard cricket. Was big enough, had a downward slope, grumpy neighbour over the fence, dogs over the other (6 and out...and you had to fetch the ball...not fun),bushes the ball could get lost in. And trees at the exact distance or a decent caught behind

We could invade the place...
