"Violence" at the Darts in Melbourne...

http://m.heraldsun.com.au/news/victoria/chairs-fly...

http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/darts-competitio...

I like how the newspaper is doing its best to report it as hooliganism and the police said it was just people building chair pyramids. I suppose when the AFL is basically keeping your publication alive you will do anything to protect their interests from other sports...

Also, A quick scan of the Daily Terrorgraph site from Sydney didnt show any signs of an article about this. Presumably there were no Muslims or Football fans imvolved

How the heck is darts exciting?

Man throws objects at a board, tries to hit target.

Where's the skill?

Where's the tactics?

Is it getting popular just cos sports fans are bored with the current sports?

What's next?

Lawn bowls?

Croquet?

The only good thing about darts is that you don't need to test for performance-enhancing drugs.

Lawn bowls is awesome. Haven't hopped on the darts bandwagon myself but you can't say there's no skill.

Where is the skill!?

You're having a laugh!

And there's more tactics than are immediately obvious. Such as Phil Taylor winning the toss, and lettig the opponent throw first to try and get a set against the throw early on to build the pressure on them and play on their mind.

Also not going for a bull finish or going for it when the opponent is on a 100+ out.

How to get from 25 to out... 9, double 8 (double 4 (double 2))) vs. 13 double 6 or 17 double 4 (double 2). As discussed quite a bit during the PDC World Champs.

Also whether to get out from 6,14, 18, 38 etc. (splits to an odd number) by going straight for double 3, 7, 9, 17, or to split it by taking a 2 or other low even first to leave a double that splits to an even number.

I'm amazed by how quickly they work out the maths and what combinations they need, often before the TV graphic has. I'm usually pretty good at maths (my background is in Economics and Statistics) but they've already had their 3 shots before I can work it out.

The funniest is when the camera isnt sure about the three dart finish and ends up going all round the board

Glad to hear it, looking forward to tonight. Especially seeing Taylor against Lewis as the first match. Quick question, was there food for sale there? Just trying to work out what to do for dinner, whether we get there early and have something nearby beforehand or get stuff there. Also what time did it finish?

Yeah they had some platters and chips and stuff but nothing you'd call a "meal" so pre-load all the way! It finished around eleven.

Bugger, Phil Taylor has had to pull out for tonight.

DartsKing Press Release

We regrettably announce the cancellation of the Sydney performances of DartsKing.

Phil Taylor has had to return to the UK unexpectedly as he was informed last night his Mother is gravely ill and obviously this must take priority.

This decision has not been taken lightly and due to the nature of Mr Taylor's return to the UK it has been decided that Sydney will now not go ahead as a gesture of respect.

Tonight's performance of DartsKing in Wellington, New Zealand will go ahead without Mr Taylor as DartsKing officials have decided that cancelling a show with less than 24 hours notice would be logistically impossible.

A Champion will be crowned at this evening's show and the Tour will reach its conclusion, albeit prematurely.

DartsKing officials and Luna Park, Sydney, would like to sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this has caused any ticket holders and would like to reassure all concerned that a full refund will be issued by the ticketing agent.

We are sure that all ticket holders, whilst disappointed will fully appreciate the gravity of this situation.

Our thoughts are with Mr Taylor at this time.

Please direct any queries to daniel.cox@precisioncorp.co.uk

There was an interview with him in the Dom Post yesterday saying he had spent a lot of time with his Mother in the last few months because she is dying and there were probably only days left, so not sure about the "informed last night" bit. After reading the article yesterday I was surprised he still came.

Yeah I saw the article, very sad for him... will be interesting to see what they do tonight - maybe shout everyone a drink (or not, because it's illegal - bluddy nanny state woofters).

Bit too insensitive to ask for any sort of refund or anything, but probably fair to say most people have paid out to see him. Very sad though, and feel sorry for the organisers because there's nothing they can really do on the day. Fair enough to cancel Sydney.

Enjoyed it last night. Shame we didn't get to see Taylor but it was still a good night and great atmosphere. The way they kept saying there were sure they'd be back next year discussions must be pretty advanced already. We were up on the balcony level and couldn't spot the full kit wankers, did you only do that on Thursday? There was one guy on our side about level with us at a table in a yellow fever t-shirt, was that one of you?

Yep, that was me, with the people in onesies in front of us. We only went FKW on Thursday. Too hot to do it again on Friday.

Okay so the Darts is on in Auckland in August.

It's Friday 28th, Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th August.

Doors open at 6pm, darts starts at 7pm and this time they are bringing the big guns:

The New Zealand event will see eight PDC stars – Michael van Gerwen, Phil Taylor, Gary Anderson, Adrian Lewis, Peter Wright, James Wade, Raymond van Barneveld and Stephen Bunting – joined by eight qualifiers for the first round of each tournament.

It's $150 for a ticket to all three nights.

The tables have sold out.

I am going up for it and a mate of mine in Auckland is planning on buying some tickts (seats only) soon.

Who wants to come along?

You mean ljke a few of us, you will not be slitting your wrists if ever the All  lacks lose a game? Andrew Saville and Hamish McKay would be very disappointed with you. Apparently every New Zealand would die for the AB's.
